As well as academic figure drawing in charcoal, my interest is contemporary western landscape.  I grew up on a pioneer homestead west of the Black Hills on the east edge of the Powder River Basin and learned to love the arid beauty there.  I use oils and watercolor to express the mood of the hills and prairie, the beauty and color in the ordinary, commonplace landscape-- to recreate not a scene but the feeling of experiencing that scene, that space.
