WILLIAM FRAMPTON born Nov/Dec 1784 in Milborne Port Somerset England.

William and his brother James left Poole in 1803,bound for Newfoundland. They signed up with Newman & Sons,to work on the whaling and fishing vessells of that Co. in Nfld. They were lounging around the village square in Milborne Port with a few friends, when a stranger passed by. They got talking and he told them that he was just back from Newfoundland.Without saying goodbye to their parents, for they knew that the parents would stop them, the two boys, along with another boy from Milborne Port started on an adventure. They walked from Milborne Port to Poole,a trek of about three days. There they signed up with Newman & Sons. They left almost immediately and arrived at Great Harbour, where they were put to work,William as a fisherman and James ,being slight of stature,as a cook.
James unfortunately lost both his legs to frostbite, after being stranded on the ice for about five days, and was returned to England but William stayed.
It was a hard life ,especially in Winter. He was a long way from any town or village of any size.

I was contacted by Randell Pope, a descendant of the Newfoundland Framps with a detailed list of the Framp ancestory in Newfoundland. I would like to thank Randell for allowing me access to these records. The information is posted on the next page.
