By some sort of time-warp expedient to the purposes of this story, several of Victor Hugo’s creations, notably Les Amis de l’ABC, have been resurrected in the present day so as to be rather confusingly mixed up with Rodgers and Hammerstein’s tedious goat-herding drama about a singing nun in wartime Austria. But it all looks exactly like Paris in 1832, bizarrely, and they appear to have acquired a prolific use of English idioms.

(Just use your imagination, it’ll be fine.)

I’m afraid I couldn’t quite resist re-writing a few of the songs from “The Sound of Music” so as to Mizzify them (there’s a list of them below in case you don’t recognise them, and there are MIDI files available as you go along). They don’t always scan fantastically because I’ve taken a few liberties with French pronunciation (how do you say Enjolras, anyway?!), but hopefully it’ll still be mildly amusing without familiarity with the originals because it’s much more Les Mis than Do-Re-Mi. I started off trying to mirror the plot, but eventually lost the thread with that altogether. (What can I say, it’s my first fanfic – if you can call it that….)

Absolutely no disrespect to anyone is meant by this at any point, but I apologise to all involved, especially to Grantaire for reasons which are obvious to say the least (he knows I love him really) and to Enjolras, for including him in my abominable silliness of which I am quite sure he would not approve and for which he would without doubt glare at me. Everyone else, I think, probably enjoyed it.

And I love them to pieces, too.
