Dain Orpree

Name: Dain Orpree (Any good at word scrambles? ;) One word, minus one E)
Gender: Male
Birthday: November 20, 1726
Astro Sign: Scorpio
Fav/Least Fav Color: Suited to his personality, black is his favorite color, as dark as his past.../Any pattern with a mix of multiple colors tends to bother Dain, and sometimes causes his powers to awaken uncalled for.
Fav/Least Fav Food: A taste he picked up in the slums of Fernes capital city, Dain has acquired a liking for dragonclaw peppers/Ever since eating at a Chinese Restaraunt, Dain has hated fortune cookies. The rubbish contained in them is like blasphemy to him, for he believes in true destiny.
Major Likes: He practices the art of kendo daily during his free time, he always excelled in English most of all even though school was a breeze, while in the slums he stumbled upon Black Metal, a genre of music dedicated to evil, oftentimes he will sit by himself and philosophise sometimes while practicing his kendo, he also has a close affinity to the stars and strongly believes that the path of everyone is written in them.
Major Dislikes: Chaotic things annoy him, the fact that there is no order to them a bother. When someone speaks of random, and chance, this also annoys him, since it is his opinion that everything has already been decided. Those that use guns sicken him, because they use them to make up for their insufficiencies, survival of the fittest becoming obsolete. Those that loudly proclaim their freedom to make choices, he despises, for the same reason randomness bothers him.

NPCs:

Nodachi - Dain's constant companion is Nodachi. Though not normally seen in the capital city on Fernes, ravens are quite common in the wilderness areas of the planet. However, the bird Nodachi is quite familiar to those that frequent the favorite haunts of it's owner. Identical to the wild ravens except for a navy blue diamond diamond-shaped patch of feathers on the top of it's head, a corner pointing down between his eyes, which burn with human-like intelligence instead of the wildness of it's feral counterparts, it is clear that Nodachi is no ordinary animal.

Dinance - Dain's mother, subject 6 in the Agressive ESP Project. A slim woman, with medium-long, straight, pitch black hair, and matching eyes, burning with intelligence. Her slender face with high cheek bones accents her medium-sized pointy nose. She is of medium height, standing 5'7" and weighing in at 110lbs. When last seen, her shining black hair had not been taken care of, and dangled around her face in ragged curls. Her intelligent eyes still burned with the same fierce intenisty, but madness dwelled in them as well.

Appearance:

Dain is tall. Taller than either his mother or father was. Taking more after his mother than his father, his build is somewhat thin, although not lacking in muscle at all. Being 6' even and weighing 160lbs, he is not too imposing of a figure... until you take into accordance his face. Shaped the same as his mother's, his narrow, high-cheekboned face also bears the same pointed nose a squarish corner jutting out of his face between his two dark blue eyes, gleaming with knowledge. But his similarities to his mother do not end here. The same shoulder-length, straight hair his mother possessed in her youth reappears framing his face. While once as black as Dinance's, his strange powers faded his hair as they matured along with him. Now, at age 20, in the prime of his youth, he stands tall and proud, sheet-white hair reminding those that knew him when he was young of his heritage.

Black, being his color of preference, is the color of all that he wears, save for a navy blue sash that holds up his black hakamas, the folds sewed in the opposite direction, to stand for a different set of "virtues." Although the hakamas normally cover his feet, when he stands a certain way, or there is a breeze, sometimes they no longer block view of them, and gleaming black designer shoes with black cylindric laces shine when the light hits them. A long, black trenchcoat, made from a heavy, rough material adorns his shoulders, covering most of the black t-shirt he normally wears. Attached to the sash, a scabbard hangs at his side, home to his katana, "Avenger." He is never seen without a black raven, with navy blue feather's on it's forehead, drawing attention to the depths of it's intelligent eyes.

His usual stance, whether it be fighting, standing at attention, or talking with Nodachi, is always casual, his arms hanging limply at his side or in the pockets of his trechcoat, while his feet stand very close to one another. When he walks, his arms barely swing, but he prefers to lodge them in the pockets of his coat. While relaxing, he normally slumps against a wall, or whatever solid surface is around with one shoulder. He commonly sits crosslegged, and will never be caught with his back to a door or window.

Personality:

Having lived his entire life with Moreno, he is wise beyond his years. His capacity for rapid learning has taught him much, his sensei and professor being Moreno himself, the man with 2000 years of wisdom. Always a quiet one, he spends much of his time thinking about everything, and working out reasons behind things in his mind. Conversation bores him, the things talked about by normal folk trivial and unimportant. This does not mean he does not listen though. He believes that everyone has something that they can teach, and that destiny puts everyone in a certain place so that those who listen can learn things to their advantages.

A critical person, of himself and others, although rarely outward with this unless annoyed, his habit of always placing his hands in his pockets gives it away. While always attentive of his surroundings, and aware of all that goes on around him, he constantly critisizes all he sees or hears, until he can piece it together with the rest of everything he knows, and it fits. If annoyed, the offending person is sure to be put in his place, with insults that cut to the core, and expose terrible truths about his target.

Knowing nothing of his family, and having Moreno as his caretaker as a child, he has become quite independant, but loyal to Moreno. When at home in his spare time, he often philosophises with Moreno or his advisor, both learning, and offering his opinion on matters. His solemn countenance, and unchanging expression is more evidence of Moreno's influence, although a smile has never been seen to grace his lips, nor laughter to bellow forth from his mouth. His dedication to Moreno is mostly because he has known no other "father figure" so to speak, and looks up to no one else. A few are worthy of his respect, and there a even fewer whom he treats as his equal. A proud man, he relies on no one, his own skills being enough for him.

History:

A product of Moreno's Agressive ESP Project, Dain's parents were bred from four soldiers, carefully selected from the most elite legion, two of them male, two of them female. Instead of being chosen for strength, or stamina, Dain's grandparents were "drafted" into the project for their minut(sp?) precognitive abilities, which became apparant as they survived battle after battle(in an arena if there were no real battles on Fernes?) through blind luck, and a strange knack for being in the right place at the right time. By selective inseminating, a male, and a female were produced from these four.

Born and raised in one of the several laboratories, dedicated to breeding projects, Der and Dinance were not only isolated from each other, but from a normal life. Different developmental paths were chosen for each. Der, the maile, was given an average intellectual education, but received extensive physical training and weapon combat lessons. Dinance, the female however was required only to exercise, and keep a fit body, while the majority of her education was to sharpen the mind, and enhance intuitiveness. The first attempt at the project was an incredible success unforseen by any. After the subjects had undergone the quickly increasing difficulty of their lessons for thirty years, it was time for their final tests. Der was pitted against the original two males from the first stage(one of them his father, unknown to him) along with five other soldiers from the elites, possessing precognitive abilities as well, although weaker. Der, unarmored and wielding a katana, defeated and slew all seven of the fully armored veterans in a record time of four minutes, twenty eight seconds. Having collected thousands of sperm from him before initiating the test, the overseers, who recognized early on, his hostility towards those who bore the insignia of Moreno's empire, flooded the test chamber with cyanide, deeming him useless for service to the empire. Dinance was required to take numerous tests, ranging from basic subject matter, to quantum physics, to tests designed to measure psychic prowess. The tests lasted for six days, Dinance being quizzed in every category of human knowledge, even eating while answering problems, and passing out at her table for her rare, one hour naps. Her latest teachers were not suprised when the scores of her academic tests far surpassed the scores of the professors who were required to also take tests, each in his own area of expertise. As expected, the heavy stimulation of Dinance's brain through years of non-stop education resulted in abilities like psychokinesis of light-weight objects, small distance flight, and spontanious precognitive visions. A sperm containing the Y chromosome was chosen from Der's preserved samples, and Dinance was inseminated. Bedridden from the experiments conducted on her between the tests, and the semination, Dinance suffered numerous visions, and, after several of them, tried to kill herself and the baby she bore. She was prevented though, and quickly restrained. For the rest of her pregnancy, she suffered through countless premonitions, what she saw in them driving her mad as she was constrained to her bed by iron. During the worst of them, it was not rare for her psychokinesis to erupt violently, tearing chunks out of the walls of her cell. Finally, nature and science finished it's joint creation, and Dinance went into labor. Five minutes into childbirth, she suffered another vision, this one lasting until five minutes after the end. The childbirth, being an anticipated even, was attended by five of Moreno's most skilled elites. They began to escort the newborn to a different facility, a precaution against the mother, who during her nine months of madness, often wailed out declarations of hate for her unborn child. When the premonitions subsided, Dinance was consumed by rage and madness, and her powers exploded, utterly decimating the laboratory in a pillar of multi-colored energy. Standing in the center of the rubble, Dinance quickly spotted the guards and her son, traveling down the street. Her surge of power only a fluke, she relied on her original powers to pursue her targets. Leap after leap, her limited powers of flight brought her closer to her goal. She caught up with them quickly, their march a slow one, as they did not expect pursuit. Even taken by suprise, the guards quickly recovered their composure and a battle ensued between them and the crazed parent. Dinance gained the upperhand, four bodies littering the ground behind her, and engaged the guard captain, newborn still cradled in his arm. Both were wounded in the fierce fighting, but Dinance, being wounded worse, unconditioned for combat, and exhausted from the extensive use of her powers, could do nothing but instinctually raise a primative barrier. The captain quickly realized he could no longer harm Dinance, but neither could she move. His job being only to deliver the baby safely, he turned around, a smug look on his face, and continued walking down the street. Dinance collapsed to one knee, propping herself with one hand, glaring after the retreating captain, her eyes full of hate, locked with those of her child's, his head resting on the captain's shoulder. Upon reaching his destination, the captain dispatched a unit of twenty soldiers to the scene of the battle, but Dinance was nowhere to be found.

The original plan being to use Dinance as a surrogate mother, and Der's semen samples to create a line of super-powered soldiers could no longer proceed as planned, both components being destroyed, or missing. After hearing of the feats accomplished by the female Agressive ESP Subject 6, Moreno had the child live with him. Named Dain Orpree by Moreno, he had much more freedom than his ancestors, but his training was much harsher. He attended normal school for a while, completing the entire grade range from K-12 in only 6 years, likely thanks to his mother's conditioning. Moreno, impressed by the boy's potential, took over his training personally when he was 7 years old. As his abilities grew greater, and his inherited powers grew greater, his long, pitch black hair slowly faded. When he wasn't training with Moreno, he liked to visit the slummiest districts, where he would keep his own company, silently standing in a corner of a bar or alleyway, observing. He also liked to go off into the forest, where he would train alone with the sword Moreno gave him. Unknown to him, this was the very same katana his father used during his last test. He named the sword "Achiever," and it was always by his side. On his 16th birthday, he had the entire day to himself, no missions or training. He traveled deeper into the forest than he had ever before, and began training like usual, mixing swordplay with his powers, and philosophising to himself simultaniously. Half the day went by, his light grey hair plastered against his sweat-soaked face. Unknown to him, a young raven perched in a tree nearby had been watching him since he first arrived. Turning around suddenly, a sudden hunch or premonition coming to his attention, his eyes locked with those of the bird. Rather than the eyes of a wild beast, he was a bit startled to behold eyes which seemed to radiate with intelligence. The bird not harming anything, he returned to his training for another hour. Once the time had passed, he sheathed Acheiver, and began to head back. The raven, for some unknown reason(could it be destiny?) began to follow him, and came to a landing on his shoulder. This seemed so natural, that if anyone were around to witness it, they would have thought the bird and Dain had known each other for a long time. Allowing the bird to travel with him, he traveled home.

Four years passed, and Dain, who's hair had turned the color of white snow now, had become Moreno's right hand man. The raven, who he named Nodachi for the legendary blades of old, proved itself a useful companion, seemingly having a small understanding of English.
