Editorial

The article pile recovered a bit, but again is now fairly low, and I would be grateful for some contributions for the next issue, preferably before the last week of June. However I have regretfully had to hold over a few articles this time, so if one was yours, don't despair - it may appear next time! I have also crowded this editorial material into some odd corners. At least the readership will be getting value for money in terms of paper usage!

Reader's Hall of Fame

Dr Chris Davey was co-author of two papers published in Binary volume 2, one of which mentioned Fractal Report. I can recommend both articles to readers, and the first appeared on pp 148-152, and the second pp 169-175. The articles will be of particular interest to those who ask what fractals and chaos theory can be used for.

Readers are reminded that if you get an article on fractals published in any mainstream magazine, please try and mention Fractal Report. Tell us, and we'll give your article a mention in this spot. To ensure that your mention of Fractal Report isn't edited out, include it as rem statements in a listing! These are usually reproduced photographically, and are therefore no so easily edited out. This sort of publicity is very useful to Fractal Report and helps everyone by ensuring its continuing success.

What? No More Larry Cobb Entries!

Mr Larry Cobb, who runs a competition for the best fractal image, offering a colour print as a prize, is disappointed that there are so few entries, in fact none since the last competition. I can assure readers that these prints are every well worth having, and indeed I have recently found a retailer who is considering offering them in frames for 15-20 each. So the chance of one for nothing just for recommending a particular fractal image is not something to pass away. Some people may be put off because they haven't bought Mr Cobb's Dragons program. He also has Fractint and I am sure would be quite happy to print an image from that if it was the winner. He admits that one can't beat Fractint for value for money, but points out that Dragons will do things Fractint can't. Please see his articles in previous issues for details.

Wear Your Mandelbrot With Pride

Most readers have had all the back numbers, so you should all remember Mrs and Mrs Brett's advertisement in Fractal Report 13 on page 9 for their Mandelbrot button-hole badge. This has finally been produced, and I must say that I was very pleasantly surprised by it. It is not just an image on a circular badge, but the actual shape of the badge is taken up with one of the coloured bands that are usually shown around the black Mandelbrot set. The edge is in gold, and the set itself is in black enamel. It has a clutch pin fastening that enables it to be worn as a tie-pin, lapel badge or brooch. I would certainly recommend any reader with 5.50 (incl post) to spare on this sort of thing to contact Mrs Brett at 1, Featherstone Cottages, Smarden, Kent TN27 8QY. Traders may also like to contact her, as I should imagine that this quality product should sell well. (tel Smarden (0233 77) 629.)

Rec Reminder

Rec sent us another advertisement, but we have no room this time. Please refer to their previous one in issue 12, page 17.

Free Fractal Calendar Offer

Dr Ian Entwistle has offered a free Fractal Cosmos Calendar to the first reader to identify these three fractals. Although half of it will be out of date it will still be of use to any time travellers, or more seriously the colour images are worth having in their own right.
