Kayla groaned as the alarm clock began buzzing, telling her that she needed to get up. She looked at it, saw what time it was and for a fleeting second considered throwing it across the room. 4:00am. I am not getting up now, she thought, resting her head back down on the pillow, I just need five more minutes. The next thing she knew, her cell phone was ringing. Not moving from under the covers, she reached her arm out and felt around for it. She found it on the nightstand by the bed and lifted it to her ear.
"Hello?", she answered sleepily. "Baby, where are you? We're all at the studio waiting and...." Hearing AJs voice, Kayla looked at the clock again. 5:30am. "Shit!", she cried jumping out of the bed. Remembering the phone, she said to AJ, "I overslept. Im getting dressed right now. Stall for me?" Kayla had crossed the room and was pulling a pair of dark blue jeans and a blue halter top out of her the closet. "Alright, get here as soon as you can. Joseph is anxious to get started. And Kay? I love you." "Love you too, and i promise, Im hurrying!" She heard him hang up and set the phone down.
Looking at the bed next to hers, she saw Chel still sleeping. Deciding against waking her up, Kayla finished getting dressed and wrote her a small note. She quickly brushed her teeth and hair, pulling it up into a ponytail. With everything done, she grabbed her hotel key and walked out the door. Luckily, their hotel was a block away from the studio and Kayla let the cool morning air wake her up.
When she reached the studio, she saw what seemes like an endless stream of people going in and out of the building. Kayla hadnt been told much about the concept behind the video, but she knew that it was going to be directed by Joseph Khan. That was exciting enough for her, knowing that he did great work, directing the videos for both Everybody and Larger Than Life. This was going to be the fifth and final video from Millennium. The guys had released Show Me the Meaning, Dont Want You Back, and of course, I Want It That Way and Larger Than Life. The guys wanted their final millennium video to be, as Nick had put it, "slammin'".
Taking a deep breath and trying to think up a good excuse for being late, Kayla opened the door and walked into the building. She immediatly spotted AJ talking to Brian and Nick. She began walking towards him and saw his eyes brighten when he saw her. He kissed her good morning, then began talking excitedly about the concept of the video. They didnt get to talk long, when a voice rang through the room. "We need to get the girls in costume, NOW!" Kayla gave AJ a smile saying, "Guess that means me." She started toward the other dancers, but not before AJ grabbed her arm and stole a small kiss.
An hour later, Kayla was sitting down on the set. It looked beautiful, the sandy beach, the crystal clear water. Its so beautiful, she thought, almost like a dream. But it was only a set and as beautiful as it was, Kayla thought about how hot the lights were and how uncomfortable her costume was. The girls were sitting down waiting for the guys to be ready and come to the set. The concept of the video was that the girls were mermaids and the guys fall for them. Seeing that they arent real, they get one night to spend with them. When the time comes for the girls to leave, they "dont wanna lose them now." Kayla thought it was a cute idea, but didnt realize the work that was involved with making the video.
The guys arrived on the set, and the filming of the first scene began. The girls were sitting at the waters edge, splashing each other. What this scene was supposed to show was the guys watching the girls and final talking to them. It also showed the girls showing their tails and basically explaining why they cant be together. Kayla looked down at her "tail" which was a pale yellow color and made of a satin like fabric. Joseph wanted the girls closer to the water so he had them move into the water more. It was impossible to walk with her tail on and Kayla watched, laughing as the five of them half hopped into the water.
"OW!!" Kayla looked around confused as she heard one of the girls let out a cry of pain. She watched as at least ten people crowded around Juli, one of the dancers. Since she couldnt really get up while wearing her "tail", she sat and tried to figure out what had happened by listening to the sounds around her. Five minutes later, she had figured out that Juli had twisted her ankle very badly while the girls were hopping. Management wanted her to go get her ankle checked out to see if she could perform the next night, but that left one problem. Nick was "mermaidless". An idea came to Kayla as a smile went across her face.
"I know somebody who could take juli's place." She told everybody her idea and twenty minutes later, she watched as Chel walked, well hopped, onto the set. She made her way over to Nick, who hugged her, and filming once again resumed. During the course of the day, Kayla had been in awe of how professional the guys were on the set. Unlike rehearsels and shows, theyre were no wise cracks and games. It was strickly business.
Three hours later, they had just wrapped up the first scene of the video. Out of the mermaid costume, Kayla was just glad to be able to walk without having to hop. They had been given a fifteen minute break and Kayla was running through the dance routine with Chel. It was an easy routine since it was a slower song. "Kay, what if I mess up? You do this every night, Im not so sure about this." Chel told her worriedly. She hadnt heard Nick coming up behind her and jumped when he whispered in her ear, "You have nothing to worry about, your gonna be great." Looking at Kayla, he said, "Bone's looking for ya. Hes over by the catering table."
Kayla watched as Chel and Nick sat down in two of the directors chairs that were set up all around the set, then went in search of AJ. She found him right where Nick had told her that he would be. He was talking to Brian and his back was facing her. She put her finger up to her lips, signalling Brian to stay quiet. When she got right up behind AJ, she yelled in his ear, "BOO!!" and then ran for her life. She knew he was gonna come after her and laughed when she heard him yelling, "You are in trouble now! Get back here!!!"
At that point, Kayla was laughing so hard that she couldnt catch her breath, which gave AJ the advantage to catch up with her. She heard his evil, playful laugh as he wrestled her to the ground. "OW! AJ! Hard ground, hard ground!!!" She couldnt say anything else, she was still laughing too hard. "Oh my God! The look on your face and you jumped a mile. It was so funny!" She was laughing so hard tears were falling down her cheeks. "Oh yeah? You thought that was funny, huh? How about this?" He asked her as he began to tickle her sides. She began laughing harder. "AJ!!!! Oh God, Stop! Please!" She tried to fight off his attack or even tickle him back but he had her arms pinned with one of his hands. "Tell me you're sorry." He told her and she saw his eyes were sparkling. "AJ, I..I cant, the look on your face was priceless." She was trying hard to control herself, but was still in the middle of a laughing fit. He continued to hold her down and was still tickling her side. "Alright....AJ, Please....Were gonna get in trouble." He gave her the killer smile that she loved so much. "I guess we are just gonna sit here until you say that you are sorry." Calming down slightly, she managed to get the words, "Im sorry." out. "Now can i get up?"
He got in a last round of tickling, then stood up. Kayla lay there for a second, then pulled herself up. She gave him a sweet smile as she began walking toward the wardrobe room. "Im sorry that i was able to scare the shit outta you." Laughing as she ran off, she heard AJ yell after her, "You just wait until later." In the wardrobe room, Kayla fell in love with the dress she was going to be wearing for the dancing scene. It was a long flowing dress that matched the color of the mermaid tail. As soon as she put the dress on, she felt like a princess. Her stylist piled her hair high ontop of her head, leaving only a few stray strands of hair framing her face. She remembered what AJ had told her about Joseph wanting the dancing scene to have a romantic feel, no hardcore dancing.
As she walked across the set to her spot, she felt the magic on the set. It looked beautiful although the harsh lights were still blazing down and people were moving all around. It was like a ballroom but in the open, stars could be seen above them. Although Kayla knew they werent real, she made a wish on one of them. She watched as AJ crossed the room, taking his place across from her. He was dressed in a dark red suit, with a black shirt underneath. Of course he was wearing a pair of shades, but they were pulled down so that Kayla could see right into his eyes.
"Are we all here? Is everybody ready? Come on people we need to get this started!" Chel was very nervous as she stood facing Nick. She could not believe how great he looked, wearing a turquoise suit that brought out the blue of his eyes. "Dont worry, Chel. Its gonna be fine." They listened as Joseph explained what he wanted from this scene. "I want to feel the love in this room!!" Chel knew that wouldnt be a problem as she felt Nick slip his arms around her, getting ready to begin dancing. "Remember, guys, you are in love. You just saw these girls, found out their secret, why you cant have them. Theyre untouchable, you only have one night to spend with them. Make them wanting more. Make them fall in love with you! Emotions, i want to feel emotions!" Nick laughed saying, "I think he is getting a little too into this." Chel laughed then took a deep breath as she heard the second verse of the song beginning. Here goes nothing, she thought.
As the music began, Kayla felt AJs arms on her and she looked into his eyes. She began to dance the routine, getting lost in the music. As she continued gazing in AJs eyes, she could feel every beat, every note of the song flowing through her body. They ran through the verse a couple more times completely, then began to film them in different spots and places on the set. They continued doing this for the next couple hours. Kayla thought to herself, if I hear that verse one more time, Im gonna go insane. Joseph announced that they could take a break for lunch and Kayla sat down next to AJ at the table where the rest of the guys were. "How do you guys do this without losing your sanity?" She asked them. She looked at AJ, and added to her statement, "Well, except for you. You lost your sanity a long time ago." The guys laughed as AJ pulled her close and said, "Yup. You figured it out, Im insane. You think you can put up with me?" To answer him, she kissed him. "Always."
The rest of the shoot ran pretty smoothly. They continued filming through the night. Both of the last scenes were acting scenes and Kayla loved watching the guys ham it up for the camera. Since her parts were all finished, she flopped down onto one of the directors chairs to watch the guys finish up. She must have been tired because they next thing she knew, AJ was calling to her.
"Kayla? Baby, lets go back to the hotel, Were all done." She looked up to see Aj standing over her, holding his hand out to her. She noticed that the bright lights were turned off and the room was only lit by a couple of lights. She stood up and tiredly leaned against AJ as they walked back to the hotel. "Did I really just finish a video shoot?", she asked him sleepily. Laughing, he answered her, "Yeah." Kayla gave him a half smile. "Cool." At the moment, all she wanted was her nice warm bed. Aj led her to her room and watched as she flopped down on her bed. Kayla felt him pull the covers over her. She felt him kiss the top of her head, telling her good night. Her thoughts on him, she drifted into a peaceful sleep.
One week later, everybody was gathered in kevins hotel room. Kayla was snuggled in AJs arms and Nick and Chel were next to them, kissing. Management had given them the final edit of the video and they were about to watch it for the first time. Kayla caught Chel's eye and almost psychically, they both said, "This is exciting!" The room erupted in laughter then fell silent as Keivn popped in the tape.

(Beautiful sunny day at the beach, Nick is alone, walking down the beach)
Nick--Man, Its so beautiful out here!(he sits down and stares out at the blue-green water. He hears faint laughter, and curiously gets up to check it out. A little further down the beach he sees five girls splashing each other in the water. he runs back to find the rest of the guys)
Nick--You guys have to come down to the beach with me, right now come on! (they all run down to where the girls had been but they were gone.)
Nick--Whered they go, they were just here. (as Nick is still searching amazed that the girls are gone, the guys are teasing him and begin walking back to the house. Nick looks back out at the water, and sees something)
Nick--Guys, wait! Look!(they stop to see what he is pointing at. They see five girls in the water, swimming away from shore. The last image is the girls diving down, and the guys see the tails)
**Begin music**
(throughout the first verse and chorus, shots of the guys and the girls on the beach, just playing around and having fun)

The chorus of the song is echoing and he looks out at the water. the camera closes in on the five girls, melancholy expressions on their faces, they dive down, they each blow a kiss towards the shore and dive down)
