Did you know...

In the late '60's Rev. Tom Ellis,
the first single pastor of FPC started a youth outreach known as FYCA (Florala Youth Communnity Association). This group had a great deal of success during a time when there was very little for the youth in town.

                                                              Our Church Building

The first building was of frame construction, erected on a portion of the site in the early 1900's occupied by the Colonial Hotel, which is now Wachovia Bank, facing east, and directly south of the W. F. Hughes residence of 1950. (Later bought by the church in 1957 to use as a fellowship hall and classrooms). Later this building was moved to the present site, but set back somewhat further from the street than the present church. Several pine trees stood in front.

A frame dwelling for use as a manse had also been acquired - located diagonally across the street from the church - and when it was decided to tear down the old church building to make way for the new, the manse was sold and the proceeds were used in financing construction of the new church.

The Present house of worship is a monument to the membership of that day. In retrospect the undertaking does not appear as difficult as it did at the time, when members were few in number and limited wealth. (the 1925-1926) Everyone cooperated according to means in true Presbyterian tradition, but special tribute is due to the memory of the late Mrs. Sophia Britton Rodwell for her persevering leadership in this cause.
