Reubens Exercise

This is the last picture in this gallery, but  it is a very important one to me. This is an exercise right from Dr. Edwards' book, and I drew it using all the methods I had learned from the book.  It was drawn upside-down, it uses negative space, some cross-hatching, shading and light source, a unit measure, and sighting and scaling with a pencil.  It is the closest that I had ever come to really reproducing a drawing. It is doubly exciting when the original work was from a master, Peter Paul Reubens in his drawing "Studies of Arms and Legs".

Shortly after drawing this picture, a friend asked me to draw a nude figure drawing.  She had seen the drawing that I made for a going away present (we were all coworkers at the time). I agreed to draw one for her. This rekindled my interest in figure drawing. This picture gave me the confidence to continue drawing and sticking to it. The rest of the artwork on this site (excluding the fantasy gallery) is all done after working through Dr. Edwards' book.

Thanks Jason--For giving me a good start, for patience to show me more, and for the fun I had learning to draw.

Thanks Dr. Edwards--For writing your wonderful book, for the confidence in drawing I gained through your book, and the eagerness to improve and learn more every time I put a pencil to paper.

Thank you for browsing through this gallery
