My First Face Drawing

My First Face

Yup, had to start somewhere.  Jason King and I used to go for afternoon coffees before work.  He would always bring his artwork with him and he would draw and I would be amazed at his craft.  He always made it look so easy to draw.  One day I finally got the nerve to ask him to show me how to start.  He tossed me over a pencil, eraser, smudger, and a piece of paper. He then said, "Draw many, many ovals over top of each other until I tell you to stop. Now erase the ovals you don't like".  An hour later, this drawing was the result. I was amazed and completely hooked.  The next day when Jason picked me up for coffee, I had already purchased a briefcase, 2 sketchbooks, pencils, graphite sticks,  and smudgers. I was ready to draw. That was in the summer of 97, and spent many hours and more coffee than I can count learning to draw.
