VOLUME 4, ISSUE 8 October 1998
With a Heart of Thanksgiving
There is so much to be thankful for! Even the most melancholic among us don't have too far to look to find something for which to be thankful. Each of us, not just the golfers, can be thankful for such a long stretch of wonderful weather (especially when so much of the world experienced terrible and devastating extremes); living in such a beautiful spot; and among such great people! Right there, without any difficulty we have found three things for which to give thanks.
Let me add a personal note of gratitude. With this issue we will have completed our second year of publishing Fox Talk. It has stretched us and been fun at the same time. However, it's time to move on to other responsibilities that await, and make room for someone else with a fresh perspective. Ruth & Maurice Dean and Ron & Wilma Wilkinson are waiting in the wings to share this task, beginning next month. Ruth will produce the newsletter in the winter months while the Wilkinsons are sunning themselves down South. They will take over in the warmer months after they have returned home. And so, you see why we are giving thanks for these four fearsome folks. I hope you will give them as much encouragement as you have given us.
With regard to the newsletter, please keep this in mind - if you are going away for a month or more please notify the active editors as to what you want them to do with your Fox Talk. There are three options. You can ask a neighbour to pick yours up, you can ask the editor to hold them for you for a given period of time, or you may have them sent to you by leaving self addressed, stamped envelopes for this purpose. Since we are in a transition period, you may bring them to our home, (the Wills) and if we're not there, leave them in our mail box, along with a note stating your departure and return dates. We'll make sure you don't miss out on what's happening.
Secondly, if you would like to submit an editorial from time to time, Ruth & Maurice would be happy to receive them. We believe you will appreciate that Fox Talk is not a forum for complaints or negative letters, - a decision made by the Social Committee executive. We strive to keep this publication uplifting and informative - there is enough depressing reading out there.
Thirdly, there have been many helpers in the community this past year, proof reading, photocopying, stapling & labelling and mailing out, for whom we also give thanks. (These folks have been thanked by name in earlier issues.) A notice will go up on the bulletin board if and when the Deans or Wilkinsons need help in any of these areas, with a sign-up sheet for this purpose, in the Fox Talk file in the mail room.
Thank you, Ruth & Maurice, Ron & Wilma - we look forward to your publications.

Foxboro Green Homeowners Association Graham Macdonald
The Board of Management met October 5th for the purpose of electing officers for the first Executive of the Homeowners Association. This meeting marks the implementation of Bylaw No. 1. The Nominating Committee, under the leadership of Sylvia Stuart, presented a well qualified slate of officers which was unanimously approved by the Board. Thanks are due to the Nominating Committee for their thorough job.
The new officers of the Homeowners Association are:
Chair Graham Macdonald (Condo #261): a Professional Engineer, for 29 years with Pratt & Whitney Canada in Montreal, the last 15 as an Engineering Manager. Served as Board member and President of Montreal Thistle Curling Club.
Vice-Chair Len Budden (Condo #278): has worked extensively over 31 years with Boards of Education, specifically with children's centres; occupation, house and safety boards, for 6 years, Director of Education, Peterborough.
Vice-Chair Andy Schaffer (Condo #274): consultant with Ministry of Community & Social Services; Director Special Services Unit Metropolitan Toronto Children's Services.
Following the election of the above officers, the Board confirmed the appointment of the following to Executive committee positions.
Treasurer (Officer of the Assoc'n) Dick Dean (Condo #283)
Grounds Committee Chair Bill Hall (Condo #261)
Rec. Centre Committee Chair Russ Wilson (Condo #242)
Foxboro Green Inc. also has a seat on the Executive Committee and will assist on request.
These outstanding candidates are willing to work for the community for a term of up to 3 years, endeavouring to ensure that our community continues as a workable, harmonious, satisfying place to live. We wish them well and offer them our support.
Recreation Centre Russ Wilson
The new recreation committee is in place for 1998-99. Our Chair is Russ Wilson and the Vice-Chair is Barry Becken. A list of who is responsible for what will be posted on the bulletin board in the mail room. Welcome to Betty Spencer who is our only new member this term.
Betty, who is looking after the library, requests that you check your houses for the children's videos, because they have not been returned, and she has had many inquiries about them. Donations of bookends would be gratefully accepted.
Please be aware that there are rules for the bulletin board in the mail room. Notices must have your name on them, be dated and not larger than 8"x5". Soliciting, other than community fund raising or approved charities, is not allowed. All sign-up sheets are to be placed in one of the folders provided on the shelf. Failure to comply may result in the removal of your sign without notice. The onus is on you, not the committee!
Larry Skitch will take bookings for Salons A & B until the end of December. Olga Tepley will do it the following three months. Many thanks to Al & Heather Keith who did a fine job handling this ever since the Foxboro Centre first opened.
Editor' apology: We accidentally missed one line of the Rec. Centre Report in the September Issue of Fox Talk. The sentence was this: (a thank you to) Bob Price for several installations and repairs around the building. Sorry.

I Love to Live
Today, Dear Lord, I'm 80, and there's much I
haven't done.
I hope Dear Lord, you'll let me live until I'm 81.
Then, if I haven't finished all I want to do,
Won't You please let me stay until I'm 82?
So many places I want to go, so very much to see,
Do You think that You could manage to make it 83?
The world is changing very fast, there is so much in store,
I'd like so very much to live until I'm 84,
And if by then I'm still alive, I'd like to stay 'til 85!
There's be so many more discoveries, I'd really like to stick
And see what happens to the world when I turn 86.
I know Dear Lord it's much to ask, it must be nice in Heaven
But I'd really like to stay down here until I'm 87.
I know by then I won't be fast, and sometimes will be late,
But it would be nice to be around until I'm 88.
I will have seen so many things, and had a wonderful time,
So I'm sure that I'll be willing to leave at 89...
Maybe.
Just one more thing I'd like to say -
Dear Lord I thank You kindly
But if it is okay with You, I'd love to live past 90.
Meet Your Neighbours The Schwartzentruber's
We are one of the new arrivals, having moved to 17 Woods Edge Court on August 11/98. This is our first move after living in the Milverton area, north of Stratford, for 32 years.
Shortly before we were married, Dave had the opportunity to purchase his family farm, which he did. Now for a city girl to move to the country was quite an experience, believe me. I (Marion) could write a book! However, I came to enjoy life there. Along with his farm work, Dave has been involved in school bus driving and some committee work.
We have two daughters, both married, and a six month old grandson. We both enjoy golf and travel. I suppose the love of travel led to my job as a Travel consultant. I work outside the office, providing brochure and ticket delivery for my clients. I have had the pleasure of doing a group cruise to the Caribbean and helping clients with a variety of travel plans.
The past few months have been both exciting and busy with still much to do. Foxboro is a wonderful community in a lovely setting and we are pleased to have it as our new home.

Welcome cards and Recreation Centre Information went to James & Elaine Campbell and Herbert & Betty Penner.
Flowers were delivered to Larry & Lee Ann Rektor on the passing of Larry's Mother, and to Rod & Val Grant on the passing of Rod's Father.
A Get Well card was sent to George Hahn.
Winter Dinner Club
There seems to be no doubt about it, the feedback from those participating in the Summer Dinner club was most positive. Special thanks to Wendy Wilson and Isobel Smith for organizing the wonderful pot luck dinner at the end of the season. Newcomers have been inquiring how they too may participate, since it is a great way to get acquainted.
There will be a sign up sheet in the mail room in the Dinner Club file, until October 31st, for any who would like to take part. Bill Wills will then organize these people into Dinner Clubs of three host couples/individuals each. If possible, each dinner club will be comprised of early residents of Foxboro Green, those who have lived here a year or so, and newer residents. They will have opportunity to host in that order.
Early in November, a sign will go up on the bulletin board listing the Dinner Club participants. Over a four month period, these people will get together 3 times for a meal.
For the first get-together,
Host #1 contacts the other two hosts, setting a date, provides the main course, and invites 2 other guests.
Host #2 brings the salad
Host #3 brings the dessert
For the second get-together,
Host #2 arranges the date, provides the main course and invites 2 other guests
Host #3 brings a salad
Host #1 brings dessert
The third get-together rotates once more so that Host #3 has the main course and invites 2 more guests.
In this way six people get to know each other quite well over this period and also become acquainted with six others who have been invited to one of the meals. If you wish more information call Bill or Maureen Wills, 634-9865.
There was a battle of wills going on. Neither would give in. A sleepy seaman, suddenly becoming aware of the bright light ahead, notified the Captain that they were on a collision course. the Captain got on the radio and demanded the other to turn 10 degrees to the right. Back came the reply, "Negative, you must alter your course 10 degrees. "Thinking to out-rank this insolent upstart, he radioed, "I am an Admiral, alter your course!" "Negative, you must alter your course - First Class Seaman>". Finally, thinking to put this rebellious seaman in his place he ordered, "Alter your course 10 degrees - I am a Battleship!". Came the reply, "Negative - you must alter your course 10 degrees...I am a Lighthouse!"

Now That It's Getting Dark Earlier....
..two concerns have been voiced.
1. Drivers of cars have a hard time seeing people out walking, especially on the road winding alongside the water. Wear something reflective if you like walking after dusk.
2. Dog owners who, after dark, allow their pets to roam freely on people's lawns and in their gardens are causing problems. Please remember that dogs must be on leashes and under the owners' control at all times while outside.
