A sympathy card was given to Rita Hill following the loss of her sister. Wally Morrison received chocolates after his recent surgery while Jim Fisher's recovery was aided by a basket of fruit, and John Lumby's with nuts & candy. Flowers were given to Maureen Potvin. Mary Wright had a very unfortunate accident which we recognized with a card and some blossoms. Norm Argue and Bill Goddard both received cards following their day surgeries. We also welcomed Pauline & Bob Harris to our community.
Important Reminder:
Please notify your Care Committee if a neighbour is ill, having an operation or has suffered a loss. We rely on you to keep us informed so that we recognize these events on behalf of the entire community. In the front of every Fox Talk there is a list of the Care Committee co-ordinators. Call any one of them and we will take it from there. Thank you.
VOLUNTEER APPRECIATION Isobel Smith
Thanks are in order for the volunteers who gave of their time to distribute the packages required for the upcoming Annual General Meeting: May Aquilina, Pearl Battley, Alan & Carol Cameron, June Davies, Denis Etienne, Helen Fraser, Linda Hett, Betty Spencer and Liane Trottier. Harriet Denstedt, and Olga Teply put the packages together.
This simple task resulted in a savings of approximately $500, which would have otherwise been added to our monthly condo fees. The efforts put in by all volunteers help to keep our condo fees down and for that we are most grateful.
NEW YEAR'S EVE PARTY Wendy Wilson

CARE COMMITTEE Marg Macdonald
Emergency Preparedness
In the October Fox Talk, we asked that every resident review the emergency information that they have in the pill container in the refrigerator. Not only should the list of drugs be reviewed but the accuracy of all other information on the sheet should also be reviewed eg. the next of kin to be called etc.
For those of you who have lost the document that describes the set-up procedure, the following is a review.
Rationale:
When 911 is called, you may be alone or a neighbour may be with you who does not know what drugs you are on or who to notify of the medical emergency.
Procedure:
The document "Emergency Information" should be completed. If there is inadequate space, use the other side of the sheet. This paper (folded) should be placed into a small pill or film container. A red fluorescent label available in the "Emergency Folder" in the mail room, should be placed around the container. The pill container is then placed in the refrigerator, on the top shelf of the door as close to the opening as possible. Only Emergency Personnel have access to this information although they may need to be directed to it. If the ambulance comes, it would be a good idea to take this paper with you to the hospital where the information is vital to your treatment, not only the drugs you are on, but the name of your family physician and next of kin. All the equipment needed to implement this is in the "Emergency Folder" except the pill containers that are available from Marg Macdonald. For new residents, this information and equipment comes as a part of the "Welcome Package" given to you by your Care Coordinator during her visit. We urge all residents to review their emergency information now and everyone should review it at least once a year.
Care Committee Volunteers:
Attached to this issue of Fox Talk is the volunteer sign-up sheet for the Care Committees. We are asking all residents to review the duties that they have volunteered to do to help their neighbours when needed. Some of you may not have been able to volunteer because you were still working and some still cannot for that very reason. However, if you feel that you can contribute, then please fill out the attached sheet and give it to a Care Coordinator or place it in the folder at the back of the "Emergency Folder" in the mailroom. There are many in this community who have or are assisting their neighbours getting to appointments, getting groceries, preparing meals and doing outside chores.
Every day in every part of our community these volunteer activities are taking place. We thank each of you for those activities we know about and for the many that you perform without anyone asking that you do it. We can be very grateful to live in a community where people are so willing to help one another. Thank you all!!!
SPECIAL EVENTS Elaine Simpson
The Special Events Committee has been actively planning some new and exciting events for the 2004 calendar year. We are proposing a car/poker rally, fish fry, new location for our Valentine and Thanksgiving luncheons, a burger and bluegrass evening in addition to the ever popular Canada Day, LCBO night and Christmas Dinner. We are also trying something new next year. The Tennis Club has agreed to sponsor the August Corn Roast with all profits directed towards a wish list of equipment for the Club.
Those who are in residence over the winter months suggested having more happenings during the months of January, February and March. The Committee has looked at running a casino night, jazzing up the Happy Hours with a light dinner and entertainment, holding a pub night, a finger food pot luck, but to do these types of activities we need to know what type of support could be expected but more importantly we need a convener to organize and run the event. If you would be interested in taking on one event, would you please contact Elaine Simpson, Ruth Cooke or Sandy Moore.
In future, we will be posting local events within the Kitchener/Waterloo area that may be of interest to some of our residents. Any applicable information with regard to these events will be in a folder labeled "EVENTS WITHIN THE AREA" in the mailroom. Keep an eye on the bulletin board for these notices and if you have something you feel would be of interest to our residents, please contact Wendy Wilson who is in charge of the Special Events area of the bulletin board.
ANGEL TREE Ruth Cooke
This is your chance to help provide a happier Christmas for some local families in the region. The Wilmot Resource Centre has provided us with a list of items they require in order to fill the needs of local families. Soon you will be seeing angels in the mailroom and written on each angel is an item that you could purchase. These unwrapped items should be brought down to the Centre no later than December 15th and placed in the decorated box in the lounge. The Wilmot Resource Centre would be pleased to accept a cash donation in lieu of a gift. Cheques may be made payable to the Wilmot Family Resource Centre and may be dropped off at 32 Sun Valley Drive. These funds will be used to provide a "wish" for some family at Christmas.

ACCIDENT WAITING TO HAPPEN Ruth Dean
Today, I was driving out of Foxboro Green at approximately 8:45 a.m., Oct 27th. As I reached the gatehouse, there was a resident driving in. At least he was kind enough to put on his brakes to wait for me to finish using the exit lane, then he used the exit lane to enter Foxboro. What was the point??? He couldn't have saved even a second.
The other times I was entering Foxboro and twice, male drivers used the exit lane in front of me to enter. Again how much time did they save??? Both were relatives of residents of the Village.
On all occasions the weather conditions were ideal (no snow or ice).
Please tell relatives and friends to use the proper lane when exiting or entering Foxboro Green. Naturally, this also applies to those who live here. If these people continue this very bad habit, sooner or later there will be an accident.

S & E REPORT Bill Simpson
Home Irrigation System
By the time you are reading this, the system will be shut down until next spring. Unfortunately, as you will have noted from financial statements distributed for the annual general meeting, we have experienced another expensive year in maintaining the system, notwithstanding that the actual number of breaks was significantly down from last year. Stewart Bowring and Derek Tickner are the two members of the sub-committee of S & E who look after the system and they have continued to carry a heavy load in having to be "on call" throughout the watering season to attend to breaks. They will be joined next year by one of our new S & E members and a newer member to the community, Jim Blair.
Path Work
Our work party on October 7 and 8 was very successful with twenty-eight volunteers involved along with several ladies in the community providing a chili lunch with pastry goodies. We completed the top dressing of 3,300 feet around the lake and an additional 300 feet of top dressing on the two new access paths at the south end of the property as well as resurfacing some of the existing paths in that area. A total of 15 truckloads, totalling approx. 250 tons of stone dust was delivered. Some was left over which will be utilized next year for another section of path to be resurfaced. The hiring of a skid-steer and operator certainly facilitated the project with the service vehicle again being kept busy. With the building up of several areas around the east side of the lake with extra top dressing, we impaired the draining of water during and after a rain from the lawn area to the lake. It was necessary to install a few drains to alleviate this problem.
With the completion of the above work along with the resurfacing of the path on the west side of the subdivision in June and the laying of recycled asphalt on the east side of the subdivision, our total path system has been substantially upgraded this year. We will be organizing a work party next year to do another section in the spring.
Road Repairs
Work has been completed in the sealing of cracks in the roads as well as the reseating of several catch basins.
See You In The Spring
Elaine and I will be departing for Arizona shortly and our co-convener, George Walker will be in charge of the committee until we get back.
Flowers & Shrubs Sandy Moore
Well, the mums at the front entrance were lovely for a while but between the muskrats and the frost they have not fared well. Our committee is considering purchasing icicle pansies for next fall, which would have the added benefit of blooming again early the following spring. Hopefully the muskrat, or whatever animal is feasting there, will not like pansies.
Many thanks to Faye & Curtiss MacDonald who have volunteered to join our growing group of Adopt-a-bed people. The MacDonald's will be taking over the lakeside bed previously tended by Jim & Joanne Brodie and by Marilew West.
Our Waterfall project is now a 'go'. Klomp Landscaping of St. Mary's, will complete the project for us and hope to begin in the next week or so, weather permitting. This will involve clearing the beds below the waterfall, placing some armour stone to help prevent erosion, building the beds up to meet the level of the stone and then re-planting the beds with new and some existing plant material. Landscape fabric and beach stone will also be used as ground covers and to help with the erosion problem. In addition, a proper drain will be installed from the top of the right side bed, to the water area, to address drainage in that area. By spring, the face-lift should be complete.

REC CENTRE REPORT Ron Donaldson
Pool Problems
Our Chemtron unit that automatically controls chlorine and PH levels in the pool was sent away for servicing; it
should be returned soon. In the meantime, chemicals have had to be added manually resulting in some problems with eye and nose irritations. With some effort this problem should be corrected by now. The pool has been and is SAFE to use. Readings are monitored daily.
Spa and Sauna Timers
Both of these timers are being replaced.
Meeting Reminder
The Recreation Centre Committee will meet on Tuesday, November 4th at 9:30 a.m.. in Salon A.
FOXBORO GREEN COOKBOOK Jean Malich
We would like to thank all residents for the support you have shown from your orders of the Foxboro Green Cookbook. The sales exceeded our expectations. Many people had missed the deadline for ordering and have requested that we do another printing, However, with some of us going south for the winter and the time consuming job of printing and collating it is just not possible to get another printing done this fall. If we have enough orders (100 are needed to get a discounted price) another printing could be done sometime in the spring. Unfortunately, the book will be priced a bit higher (approximately $17.50 - $18.00), as the printer will do the copying and collating for us. If you wish to place an order, we would request that you do so as soon as possible, so that we can prepare the disk for the printer through the winter months. Orders can be placed by calling Maureen Potvin at 634-9737.
Many of you have acknowledged that the cookbook was very professional looking and that we had done such a great job. I personally enjoyed doing the cookbook and it gave me great satisfaction that it could be done by us, as a team. Without the help of Brenda Churton, Maureen Potvin, Elaine Simpson, Jan Putnam, Marj Joiner, and the ladies that helped to collate at the last minute, I thank them. Job well done. And thanks to the husbands that did without their wives for the duration of this project. Our community has shown once again that the little things are worth doing. Thank you from all of us for your comments and orders.
The monies from the sale of the books will be available to those groups that you requested to support.

DINING OUT
WITH
THE RED HATTERS
Aberfoyle Mill Restaurant is rated triple "A", and is worthy of a repeat performance after our first visit to this 1859 historical mill building replete with Canadian Antiques. Varied menus, reasonable prices, well-presented, smaller portions available and an impressive wine cellar in view, pleased the Red Hatters. An excellent choice for a luncheon.
The next outing will be at the Charcoal Steak House on Thursday, Nov. 6th at 12:30 p.m.
