tfill.gif CARE COMMITTEE
Marg Macdonald
Keeping in Touch Marj and Peter Bond, 134 Golf Links Drive, were welcomed to Foxboro Green.
In October we had a number of residents in hospital or having surgery! Eileen Fairweather and Marilyn Abthorpe had their cataracts removed. Flowers helped brighten their recovery. Beryl Boughey also received flowers following her surgery. Aida Tengler received goodies following her hospitalization. Ted Blood needed both hospitalization and home care to fix his problem and has done very well! The community gave him fruit to keep him well-vitaminized.
Care Committee News
Thank you Foxboro Golfers for your very generous donation to the Care Committee. The organizers, led by Jim Arbuckle, worked diligently to provide a day of fun and prizes for the golfers, and also raised money for Hope Spring and the Care Committee. Thank you all!
Eileen Fairweather returns! In Care Area #2, Pat Tibbles, Care Coordinator with Marg Macdonald, is off on a holiday in Australia for November and December. Eileen has kindly agreed to replace her for this period.
Eleven Foxboro residents spent all day on Monday, October 21st, learning the latest about the management of a choking adult, Artificial Respiration and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation, and practiced "how to". Congratulations to Sandra Nairn, Mary Pringle, Phyllis Bird, Helen Frazer, Coby Ottaway, Pam Wrzesniewski, Jerry Szeps, Lorraine & Henri Bertrand, and Marg & Graham Macdonald, on passing the test.
Nov. 15th Care Committee Gala Evening
We plan to have a great evening of desserts and entertainment. The sign-up is posted in the mail room. Tickets will be sold in advance. A committee member will contact those who sign up to arrange payment. We hope to see you there!

Thank you Condo numbers 242, 304 and 313 for your recent donations to the Care Committee. These funds will be directed to the ongoing activities of the Care Committee. All residents in our community benefit from these donations..

UPCOMING EVENTS

ANGEL WISH TREE: This is your chance to help provide a happier Christmas for some local families in the region. The Wilmot Resource Centre has provided us with a list of items they could use in order to fill the needs of local families. Soon you will be seeing angels in the mailroom and written on each angel is an item that you could purchase. These unwrapped items should be brought down to the Centre no later than December 15th and placed in the decorated box in the lounge.

HAPPY HOUR: Volunteers are needed to host the Happy Hour each month. A sign-up sheet is posted in the mailroom along with instructions as to what is required. If you regularly attend the Happy Hours, we would ask that you take a turn at hosting this once-a-month event.

COMMUNITY DECORATING FOR CHRISTMAS: Get those winter jackets and mitts out, and mark December 1st on your calendar because it is Christmas Decoration time! Dick Dean has graciously offered to organize this event to be held on December 1st however we need many volunteers to assist with lighting up our trees, decorating the Recreation Centre and the Christmas tree. Following this, we will be serving refreshments and perhaps enjoy a good old singsong. See you there. Sunday January 5th will be the day we officially mark the end of the Christmas season and down come those decorations! Once again, we will need volunteers to dismantle all the work the residents did on December 1st. After the decorations have been taken down and stored away for another year, you will be treated to refreshments in the Centre.

CHRISTMAS DINNER: Friday December 20th is the Foxboro community Christmas dinner (roast turkey with all the trimmings) to be held at Golf's Steak House. We will be booking a bus at a small additional charge for those who would prefer not to drive. The bus will leave from the Centre at 5:30, cocktails will be available for sale at Golf's between 6:00 and 7:00 and dinner will be served at 7:00, followed by a dance. The bus will leave Golf's at 11:00 p.m. There are some great door prizes so don't miss the sign up sheet in the mailroom.

LCBO: Mark Tuesday, November 19th, 7:30 p.m. on your calendar. A representative from the LCBO along with two reps from Pelee Island and Kittling Ridge, are bringing their wares to our community! Due to the limited number of individuals we can accommodate in the salons, we ask that you do not sign up unless you are sure you will be attending. Last year many of those who signed up did not show up and as a result we had some disappointed residents who had wanted to attend but were unable to because of our number limitations. If you do sign up and then determine you are unable to attend, please advise Ruth Cooke or Pauline Tickner and someone from the waiting list will then be contacted.

THE SPECIAL EVENTS COMMITTEE is always looking for individuals who enjoy working in a team environment and we welcome new ideas and suggestions. If you are interested in serving on this committee, please contact either Ruth Cooke or Elaine Simpson for the date of the next meeting.

tfill.gif GARAGE SALE REPORT
Bob Price
The number of signatures on the information sheet that was posted in the Mail Room indicates to me that there is enough interest for us to have a community Garage Sale in May. Due to my health, I will only be able to set up and co-ordinate the sale (so I will need some help). I will be updating this function in future issues of Fox Talk Now is the time to start getting all of your treasures together.

tfill.gif CANADIAN TIRE FLYERS
(IN THE PINK PLASTIC BAG)
Bob Price
Many of us have been waiting for years for this flyer to be delivered and are finally able to enjoy it. I have heard that some people are complaining about the pink bags lying in neighbours driveways. If your neighbours are away, would it be too much trouble once a week to pick up the bag and put it into your blue box? The flyers are not soliciting, but are a requested service, asked for by many households in our community. If you do not want to have it delivered, all you have to do is to tell the delivery person you don't want the flyer delivered.

tfill.gif THE COMMUNITY BBQ/HORSE RACES
Bob Price
We are sorry to end this very enjoyable and successful venue. This past season we made $700 which will be going towards flowers in the pool area and other upgrades to the Recreation Centre.
The Horse Race equipment is available to anyone who might like to make some money for their respective groups. (We will show you how it works, ie. handicapping, etc.)
Thanks for your support over the past few years, and special thanks to all of the people who have helped to make this a success.

BINGO!! BINGO!! BINGO!!

Many thanks to the residents of Spruce Grove Ave. for working with the Bingo group with events that were scheduled on the same evening, allowing both groups to enjoy an evening of fun.
Audrey Euler was the winner of last month's $50.00 Jackpot. Thanks again to Ron Bleier for volunteering his time calling the Bingo games.
Remember, the next Bingo night will be Friday November 8th at 7:30. Bring a friend and let's get out and have some fun. Also, a friendly reminder - exact change would be greatly appreciated when buying your bingo cards. Thank you.

tfill.gif FROM THE LIBRARY
Brenda Churton
As you know, the use of the books and videos in our library are on the 'Honor' system. Unfortunately, there are a lot of videos that have not been returned. Please check the following list.

tfill.gif OUTSIDE LIGHTS
Ron Donaldson
As darkness comes very early now, it would be appreciated if residents would turn on their garage lights for the benefit of our evening walkers.

My face in the mirror Isn't wrinkled or drawn.
My house isn't dirty, the cobwebs are gone.
My garden looks lovely, and so does my lawn.
I think I might never, put my glasses back on.

CALLING ALL COOKS OF FOXBORO GREEN

A group of residents is putting a Foxboro Green cook book together, and we NEED your favourite recipes. Funds from the sale of these cook books will aid various groups in the community. There will be a mail slot located in the rec centre for residents to deposit recipes for submission, or you may submit your recipes to the following e-mail address: [email protected]

*Note from Fox Talk staff. What a great way to get all those wonderful potluck dinner recipes we have all enjoyed.

tfill.gif WINE TASTING PARTY

The Wine Tasting Party of Sept. 29th was a rousing success. Eighteen different wines were sampled by those residents attending. A WINE TASTING CLUB will be starting soon. Watch for details in upcoming issues of Fox Talk.

tfill.gif THE RED HAT CLUB
Joan Cook
On Thursday, September 26th, an afternoon tea was given by Joan Cook and Jean Usaty, to introduce the start of this interesting club. They would like for others to come and join them on the first Thursday of every month for a luncheon at a new and different restaurant.
A sign-up sheet will be posted in the mailroom. All that is required to become a member is a Red Hat, Purple Top and a smile on you face. No good deeds, no meetings, no work, just a laugh and a giggle at lunch with the RED HAT CLUB.

tfill.gif SERVICES AND EQUIPMENT
Bill Simpson
Many thanks to the six individuals that called to offer their assistance in the building of a new cover for the waterfall pump well. Mike Vidura decided to undertake the project himself, and this is currently underway. We'll probably need a couple of volunteers in the spring to paint it.

We have completed a couple of sections of path rebuilding, specifically a stretch of the path behind Sun Valley Drive, which has usually been wet and muddy after a rain, and a couple of stretches beside the lake, which flood after a heavy rainfall. For this we had material on hand. Several other sections have been identified as needing attention and these will be undertaken in the spring.

We trust that the majority of residents are pleased with the pavement line painting. The lines along the side of the road should make it easier to see the edges of the roadway at night, which has been a major complaint. The expanded front entrance, which we have also had delineated with edge painting, should now eliminate short-turning occurrences which have created an unsightly situation in the past.

We continue to endure breaks in the home irrigation distribution system, which now total 25 for the year. Unfortunately again, three of the most recent breaks are of the costly variety, with two being under driveways and another causing significant damage to the street. Repairs should be completed shortly and the system is scheduled for shutdown on October 29.

While really having nothing to do with this committee, we need a volunteer with a gas-powered chainsaw to saw up a fallen limb or two for firewood. This we will need next summer for the corn roast, and if the wood is cut up now, it should be dry by then.

And just to report on a social event - Members of the Grounds Management Committee and the Services and Equipment Committee recently enjoyed a joint potluck supper. This provided an opportunity for the convenors of these committees to thank the committee members for the hours of dedication and hard work done in the community during the past year. But for the efforts of all three working committees, including the Foxboro Centre Committee, our condominium fees would be much higher if all of the work performed by committee members and other volunteers were contracted out.

tfill.gif LAKE & POND COMMITTEE REPORT
Marg Macdonald
Many Foxboro residents participated in the clean-up of the Recreation Centre Pond! Thank you to everyone who took the detour while the pond was being cleaned.

On Thanksgiving Saturday, Limnoterra, Environmental Consultants, the company we have contracted to help us to manage our Lake and Ponds, got right in and cleaned our pond. The majority of the mass of the green that covered the pond throughout this summer was algae. Three different kinds of algae flourished. One type, when pulled, resembled long curtains of cobwebs. It supported mossy and foamy looking types of floating algae. Limnoterra then repositioned the three airstones and surrounded each with four "Aquamats". Aquamats are weighted, belt-like structures with long narrow strands of material which extend upwards, greatly increasing surface area of the pond base, thereby offering beneficial animals a structure in which to build their homes and protect themselves. These microscopic organisms enjoy eating algae, and in turn are much appreciated by crayfish and other larger species. These animals will provide the food chain link that has been missing in this pond. With twelve Aquamats in place, our algae problems should be greatly reduced, and that should indirectly improve water quality in the lake.

We look forward to receiving the report on the lake management study that Limnoterra carried out in October. This report will suggest a long term plan of management. The committee looks forward to sharing this information with the community. We plan to have a town hall meeting in the new year for all those interested in the lake studies and the management plan.

If you would like to have your copy of Fox Talk mailed to you while vacationing, you will need to supply the Fox Talk staff with stamped, self-addressed envelopes for each month you will be away. These envelopes can be placed in the Fox Talk mail slot at the rec centre or delivered to:
Rosemary Schaaf, at 117 Foxboro Dr. or Marg Leppington, at 138 Golf Links Dr.

Age is important only if you are cheese.

tfill.gif VINTAGE FASHION SHOW TO CELEBRATE 25 YEARS
Maureen Wills
On Tuesday, November 19th the Stratford Christian Women's Club will celebrate 25 years in that city.
Vintage clothing from the 1930's to the 1980's will be modeled (you're likely to see familiar Foxboro faces among the models) and the commentary will include highlights of the history of this organization.
Maureen Wills will tell, in the first person, the remarkable story of Helen Duff Baugh. Born in Ireland, young Helen and her family were booked to come to America on the Titanic. Come and hear Helen's amazing story and how she grew to found this organization that eventually spread around the globe.
The Christmas program to be held on December 10th once again features "Gifts of Love". The Planning and Leadership Teams, comprised of 37 women, bring gifts to give to the woman whose number she picks. There is always great excitement as these numbers are called out, and often the recipient is a lady from Foxboro Green.
We always enjoy Judy Lumsden, a well known K-W soloist, so what better time to have her sing than at Christmas. Our speaker, Shirley Judge from Listowel, has been both a Mayor's wife and teacher. She'll tell us about the best Christmas gift she ever received.
These monthly gatherings are held at the lovely Arden Park Hotel. We would love to have you join the group of Foxboro ladies who attend these meetings. There is no membership or dues - just come when you can. Invitations and a sign-up sheet will be in the mail room two weeks before each meeting.

tfill.gif FOXBORO CRAFT SHOW
Elaine Simpson
It was a happening at the Recreation Centre on Sunday October 20th - a craft and bake sale, a silent auction and a Victorian Tea! The participation from our residents was phenomenal, both from the standpoint of donations for the bake table and the tea, but also participation in the event. Thank you to all who donated baked goods, items for the silent auction, and to those who gave of their time.

The craft sale was a great success. We once again had an opportunity to see the wide range of talents right here in our community - painted items, woodwork, stained glass, quilting, pottery, ceramics, artwork, knitting - great gift ideas for Christmas, birthdays, or hostess gifts.

The bake and savouries table is always a favourite. Carol McKelvey and Mary Jane Becken did a fantastic job of organizing this part of the sale. So many goodies - so many calories! Marilyn and Frank Abthorpe came up with great items for the silent auction. Thank you for all your work in soliciting and organizing the auction. A special thank you to those Foxboro residents who also contributed items for the auction. A list of the winners, along with the donated items, is posted in the mailroom.

And now for the "pice de resistance" - the Victorian Tea. Never in the annals of Foxboro's history has such a lavish tea taken place. Finely crafted gourmet sandwiches, delicious dainties, and fine English tea - all served by our Foxboro ladies. Shirley Thom and many volunteers spent hours preparing for the tea, and although we all had a wonderful time, I question who had the most fun - those preparing the goodies or those partaking? Thanks to each and every one who helped and we look forward to the next one!

The entire event was a huge success. In addition to the food items received, a cheque in the amount of $375 will be forwarded to the Wilmot Food Bank. A portion of the profits will be turned over to the Foxboro Care Committee and some monies will be used to purchase new items for the Centre.

tfill.gif GROUNDS REPORT
Cam Magnan
By time you read this, I hope to be in the sunny south until the end of January. It has been a busy summer. This last month we have started a regular lawn aeration program and also overseeding of selected areas. Overseeding in the fall gives the grass a good start in early spring. A starter fertilizer is used with the seed.

The Rec Centre pond has been cleaned out by our pond Committee and aqua mats installed. We expect they will improve the nutrient absorption. If we are not happy with the results next year, we have a money back guarantee.

This has been a bad year for grubs. We have sprayed selected areas that have been severely infested. Animals, however, are digging up areas that have no sign of grubs, for example in front of the Rec Centre. Greenway tells us that this is happening at their other properties. The only recourse is trapping the animals or spraying the areas with cayenne pepper. We will try this with small areas but it is too expensive to do the whole property.

We have had, until last week, 2 months of relative goose-free enjoyment of the lake for a cost of $10 per house. The dogs have been quite successful in keeping the geese away. There are literally thousands of geese in the area this time of year, so it would be expensive to keep the dogs coming as frequently as would be required. It is time that we start asking our member of parliament, or whomever we should, when are we going to recognize that enough is enough. The geese are no longer a threatened species. They should be culled and sent to the food banks like they do in Michigan. They are increasing at 20% per year. There are over 1,000,000 geese in Ontario now. Soon there will be more geese than people. When do we call a halt?

Enough said. Marion and I want to wish everyone at Foxboro a Merry Christmas and we will see you all in the New Year.

tfill.gif REC CENTRE REPORT
Ron Donaldson
Recreation Centre Garbage It is essential that the garbage bags in the garbage compound be placed at the end of the south driveway on Thursday mornings. The resident named in October's Fox Talk has withdrawn his offer to perform this essential task. Bill Wills has volunteered to take on the job but he would like some back-up for when he is unavailable. Anyone willing to help Bill is asked to put his/her name on the sign-up sheet located in the mailroom.

Pool and Carpet Cleaning
The pools have been drained, cleaned and the sand in the pool filters has been replaced. All carpets throughout the Centre have been steam cleaned. Your patience during this period is appreciated.

Mailroom
A folding door will be installed on the Mailroom doorway. When the door is closed you must stay out of the Mailroom as the mail is being sorted.

Winter Contacts
Ron Donaldson will be away from December 1st to April 15th. Peter Soloman will be the Acting Convener during most of this period (he will be away during January and February). Emergency contacts will be George Jones, Tom West, Russ Wilson and, of course, Theresa Tewfik.

New Recreation Centre Committee
With amalgamation finally completed, it is no longer necessary to have 19 people on the Recreation Centre Committee. A new Committee has been formed consisting of a Board representative (still to be named), Ron Donaldson as Chair, Peter Soloman as Vice-Chair, Mary Wright as Secretary and Bob Good, Rosemary Schaaf (Winter), Brenda Churton (Summer) and Olga Teply.

This new Committee will be meeting Tuesday, November 5th at 9:30 am in Salon A.
Many thanks to the Recreation Centre representatives who were members of the former Committee and who have not been chosen to sit on the new Committee. Your time and efforts on behalf of the community are greatly appreciated.

Next Recreation Centre Committee Meeting
The next meeting of the new Committee is set for Tuesday, November 5th at 9:30 am in Salon A.

tfill.gif COMPUTER CLUB REPORT
George Walker
Five years ago Foxboro Green community was given three computers which, even then, were not state-of-the art machines. A Computer Club and a Video Club were formed to use this equipment.
Several members of the community realized that we would be better served by combining the Video and Computer Clubs, pooling their resources and sharing one computer capable of doing some of the wonderful things that computers can do these days.
Recently the Board approved a proposal to move in this direction and allocated funds from the Reserve Fund to upgrade. The features of an up-to-date computer were carefully researched. At the same time, a lot of cooperation went into the design of a cabinet to house the new computer in the TV lounge where our weekly meetings are held. The lockable cabinet, of solid oak, will be built by members of the Baden Senior's Workshop. The Computer Club has raised a large portion of the funds needed for the cabinet, through the monthly Bingo games.
The new computer has arrived. Windows XP is the operating system, and permits everyone using the computer to have their own desktop, their own e-mail address book and all the features that they may have come to enjoy on their home computer. The new computer has dual monitors, which double the viewing and working space. The new scanner is simple to use and very versatile.
Membership in the Computer Club at ten dollars a year is one of the best bargains you will find. It entitles you to access the equipment on your own and enjoy the many other benefits provided by the club. You can logon as GUEST - no password needed, or you can speak to one of the members with administration privileges if you wish to receive your own logon name. This would give you the opportunity to have your own desktop and private folders etc. (Cam, Doug, Arnold, George, Ron, Jeanne or Geri can help you.)
It may be necessary to book time if the new computer is as popular as we expect it might be. A reservation sheet will be available. The Fox Talk staff will have priority on the days that Fox Talk is put to press, usually three to four days in the last week of the month.

tfill.gif URGENT MESSAGE FROM CONCERNED RESIDENTS

Where are all those residents that felt they could do a better job than our present board??? Now is your time to be one of the new board members and have a say in what is happening within the community. Remember all the times that you sat with neighbours and discussed how you would have done it,
WELL, HERE IS YOUR CHANCE!!!. Get your application to Theresa by November 20th.
We are concerned with the scarcity of FGHA Board experience among the candidates for the new board.
Present board members along with all other owners are urged to apply for a position on the new board.
We need more people to run to make this a real contest. Remember the candidates that have volunteered should be commended for getting involved in overseeing that our community continues to be run in the same smooth way our present Board has. Many thanks to all Board Members for all the hours they have given so unselfishly over the past years.

tfill.gif WANTED NEW IDEAS - FRESH FACES AND NEW CO-ORDINATORS

Come and get involved in "YOUR COMMUNITY".
Meet neighbours and have fun by serving on the Special Events Committee. This group raises the much needed funds to keep the Care Committee running and organizes all those great activities, i.e.: Canada Day, BBQ's Christmas Dinner etc. A manual is available with job descriptions and co-ordinating steps for these activities. For more information, phone Gail Hovey at 634-8349, or Ruth Cooke at 634-5144. We need someone willing to head up Special Events as Ruth Cooke will be stepping down as of March, so that she may be able to spend more time with her husband who will be retiring. Ruth has served two years and deserves a round of thanks for her time and effort from the community. NOW IS YOUR TIME!!!! STAND UP AND BE COUNTED!!!!
