SPECIAL EVENT NEWS Marg Macdonald Oktoberfest: Again Foxboro residents boogied to the trumpets of the great
German bands of Oktoberfest 2001. Blanche Douey did her usual excellent job
of organizing this event for all of us, collecting the money, purchasing the
tickets, getting tickets from residents who suddenly couldn't go, to those
who suddenly wanted to go etc. She organized the bus and driver, making
certain that the number leaving Foxboro returned, in one piece.
Thank you Blanche. Well Done!
Bingo Night: Once again the great team of Bob and Bob brought us an
evening of good old fashioned fun. Winners were Helen Fraser, Joanne Brodie
who both won twice, and Ron Bleier, Mary Boucher, Jack Davies, Audrey Euler,
Herb Stamm, Mary Ann and Marty Martin, Marilew West, Marg Leppington, Lil
Good, Ruth Dean, with the big winner of the $77 Jackpot going to
Sharon Mitchell. Thanks Bob and Bob for another job well done.
Casino Niagara: What a wonderful day trip 26 Foxboro residents had on Oct.
23rd. And to top the day off, it rained while we were gambling away our
hard earned money. Winners among the losers were Helga and Herb Stamm,
Audrey Euler, Gail Hovey, Harriet Denstedt and Ruth Cooke.
Beer Tasting: Another great night of tasting our favourite beverages. Hats
off to the New Hamburg LCBO for an enjoyable night of drinking.....!

is Nov.15th. Expected return time is 6pm. Should be a great day for all!
Decorations Up Sunday December 2nd 1:30pm
This afternoon is always such fun as we decorate Foxboro for Christmas. The
preparation and enjoyment we get from these decorations is a large part of
the joy of Christmas. We urge new residents to join in the fun of
decorating, sharing goodies, drinking hot cider or coffee, and singing
carols to the music of Helen Lumby. Dick & Doreen Dean, along with Don &
Rita Hill, will lead us. Meet at the Recreation Centre where teams will be
organized to carry out various tasks. See you there!

fortunate in our region by buying a gift or gifts for the Wilmot Family
Service Christmas Baskets. The little Christmas Tree will be put up in the

gift suggested by the angel. These unwrapped gifts should be placed in the
decorated boxes under our giant Christmas tree. Cheques are also welcome;
please submit to Ruth Cooke or Marg Macdonald.

The Sign Post Forest of the World
Watson Lake, Yukon
Bill and Elaine Simpson
Ed and Jeanne Malich
We are now one of 70,000 signs from all over the world. The forest was
started in 1942 by a homesick U.S. Army G.I. While working on the Alaska
Highway, he erected a sign pointing the way and stating the mileage to his
hometown. Others followed his lead and are still doing so to this day. Our
Foxboro Green sign, donated by Bob Barnhart, is now among the world famous.
Sales Centre Area Committee Lucille Balcomb
To those of you who responded with suggestions as to how you would like this
area treated, the committee thanks you. However, there is still time to
present your views as the closing date is November 15, 2001. Place in:
Theresa's slot in mail room or Lucille Balcomb's at 12 Spruce Grove.
POP CANS FOR CHARITY
St. Agatha and District Lions Club collect pop cans on behalf of local
charities. They have supplied us with a collection barrel that is located
on the upper patio beside the Recreation Centre kitchen door.
Please deposit your cans in this barrel instead of your blue box

Direct Gas Marketer Complaint Graham Macdonald
During the week of October 15th many homes in Foxboro Green were visited by
a salesman for the Ontario Energy Savings Corp. (OESC). This person
represented himself to me and others as an employee of Union Gas who was
offering to register me for a 4 or 5 year term of a fixed gas supply price
of $0.28 per cubic meter. The man avoided answering direct questions about
the offer details or his employer. He was coercive in his manner. I did not
sign up. I later read the Customer Agreement which, in the fine print,
states "For the purposes and matters relating to the supply, delivery,
transportation, and billing of natural gas, I/we appoint OESC as my/our sole
and exclusive agent....". Only "Supply" is at the fixed price. The contract
cannot be terminated during the term. If you try to terminate by
transferring your account to another gas supplier, you may incur major
liquidated damages.
I have placed a formal complaint with OESC, which is a gas brokerage company
located in Mississauga. If anyone else feels that this was unacceptable
soliciting (on private property, posted as "No Soliciting") please place a
complaint with OESC at 1-888-590-9573. The salesman's name is Rozenberg; his
ID number is 13097. Some residents did sign up, and have since cancelled by
phone and in writing. I make no judgement as to whether the offer is a good
deal or not.

Nov.16th at the horse races. We are looking for other sponsors for gift
certificates in future contests. If you can help please contact Lil Good at

LAKE & PONDS COMMITTEE Marg. Macdonald
Sun Valley Pond
On October 18th, 20 trees and 100 shrubs were planted on the banks and
central berm of the Sun Valley pond. The twenty trees include six silver
maple, 4 sugar maples, 5 Hackberry and 5 white ash. Flowering raspberry,
elderberry, chokecherry, nannyberry and button bush are some of the shrubs
just planted. We expect the different species of shrubs and trees will
attract birds, butterflies and ducks. We hope that this area will add to the
pleasure of walkers around our community throughout the four seasons.
CARE COMMITTEE Marg. Macdonald
Thank you Eileen Fairweather!
For three years Eileen led Care Committee #2. Throughout those three years,
she organized a multitude of activities for residents in her area that
required assistance during a period of illness and/or treatment. For some,
she made complex arrangements for transportation. She originated planning,
by using a calendar dedicated solely to those activities. She offered
support to those undergoing complex treatment innumerable times, and for a
period of two years her care area was the busiest. She would be the first to
say that she had a lot of help, as many others offered and gave their time.
Nevertheless, putting it all together takes much time and effort by a
co-ordinator, and this Eileen did very, very well.
Eileen will continue to be available to the Care Committees in an advisory
capacity. Marg Macdonald will replace Eileen in Care Area #2, with the
assistance of Pat Tibbles and Rosemary Schaaf.
KEEPING IN TOUCH:
We have welcomed Linda & Dave Skelton, 6 Sun Valley Drive, to our community
this month.
We offered condolence from the community to Jean Goddard who has just lost
her mother.
Bill Congdon, Elsie Hall and Freda Connell have all been hospitalised in
October. The Care Committee has given to each of them flowers, nuts or fruit
on behalf of the community.
Unfortunately, we knew very belatedly of Peter Soloman's surgery and are
pleased to report he is recovering well. He looks as happy as a Cheshire
cat, especially while Geri is mowing the lawn!

ART, CRAFT, AND HOBBY FESTIVAL
Just a reminder that Sunday, November 4th is our first annual "show, tell
(and sell)" festival at Foxboro! We have had a terrific response from our
residents and it is sure to be a winner! Donations of home-made sweets,
candy or savories would be greatly appreciated for our sale table, and may
be brought to the Centre on the morning of the 4th or dropped off at
Elaine's (44 Sun Valley) prior to that day. If you have any questions you
may contact Elaine Simpson, Charlotte Burnstine or Marilew West. Let's all
come out and support our talented neighbours. See you there between 1:00 and
5:00 p.m. Elaine Simpson
FUNDRAISER
In support of the Care Committee
Sunday November 18th 2 - 5 p.m.
Come and join your neighbours for refreshments and a shopping spree. Sandra
Doyle, Elsie Hall, Marilyn Hoffman and Isobel Smith, residents of our
community, have arranged for The Scrapping Bug, Partylite, Avon and Pampered
Chef to have their products on display in our Recreation Centre. Who knows,
you might be the winner of the door prize.
Foxboro Dinner Club Joanne Brodie
The Summer Dinner Club finished up with a Pot Luck Supper on Sept. 28th with
32 people attending. As usual the cooks came out for the evening and we
enjoyed good food once again. It amazes me how we get such a variety and
just enough! The Winter Club has been formed with 15 couples participating.
The groups should be organizing to meet soon
RECREATION CENTRE REPORT Ron Donaldson - Convenor,
Window Cleaning
The pool area windows have been cleaned inside and out, and this will be
repeated in the spring. Enjoy the view!
Carpet Cleaning
The dressing room areas, Salons A and B and the kitchen hall carpets will be
steam cleaned this month. The hardwood floor will also be done.
Mailroom Boxes
In order to assist the mail delivery people in sorting our mail, twenty-one
boxes in the third and fourth sections have been re-allocated; this will
allow the addresses to appear in sequence. Keys will remain the same but
the affected residents will have new box numbers. Notices of the changes
will be placed on the affected boxes and residents will be notified
personally, if possible. We regret any inconvenience this may cause.
Photocopier
The photocopier is being moved to the cloakroom area across from the main
floor washrooms in order to free up more storage in the kitchen storage
room. This should prove more convenient as a worktable will also be
provided. All efforts to keep this area tidy will be appreciated.
Private Functions
Are we all courteous? Apparently not. Complaints have been received about
residents interfering with caterers in the kitchen and walking through a
private party to use the library. We ask all residents to please use common
courtesy when a private function is going on.
Dressing Rooms
Are children full of mischief? Sometimes! There has been a problem in the
Ladies Change Room with the changing cubicles being locked on the inside.
Please check these areas after your young guests have finished changing.
First-Aid Kits
A small first-aid kit will be placed in the kitchen. Other first-aid kits
are located in the pool area, the craft room and the woodworking shop.
Beverage Machine
The installation of a permanent beverage machine in the kitchen will be
discussed at the Recreation Centre meeting on November 6th. Any comments or
suggestions should be passed on to your Recreation Centre representative
before that meeting.
Next Recreation Centre Committee Meeting
Tuesday November 6th at 9:30 am in Salon A.
SERVICES AND EQUIPMENT Ron Bleier
Sprinkler Systems Shut-down
Currently the home-site irrigation system is shut down due to a leak.
Homeowners who wish to shut down their in-ground sprinkler systems may go
ahead and do so. At some point in the next few weeks, the water will be
turned on briefly to check that the leak has been repaired. We ask that
those who have had their in-ground sprinkler systems blown out by their
service technician, leave their main shut-off valve closed. If it is left
open, your system will re-fill and need blowing out again.
If you have any doubts about the status of your main shut-off valve, please
call 634-5363 and one of our committee members will check it for you.
Hip-Hip-Hooray !!!
Three cheers and a great big smile of thanks to Ruth Dean for her production
of The Village Phone Book! As usual, Ruth came through in style. Thank you
from a grateful community.
Pub Night Ralph Adsetts
To determine if there is sufficient interest in a good old fashioned Pub
Night, a sign up sheet has been placed in the Mail Room. Ken Smith is
willing to bring his piano to the Recreation Center if enough people express
an interest in singing, dancing, tapping their feet or whatever!!! Sign the
sheet if you like this idea and we will set a date.
An Eagle
Congratulations
To
Connie Schaffer
...who shot an Eagle on no. 6 Red at Foxwood Golf Club on Tuesday, October
2. Not quite a hole in one, but in golfing terms, every bit as good.
Connie used a 3 wood from just inside the 150 yard marker. Great Golfing
Connie.

THE VILLAGE PHONE BOOK Ruth Dean
The new phone books have been published and they were delivered to your
Condo Presidents on October 20th. Some of the Presidents were not at home,
so a phone call was made to the absentees and messages were left on their
answering machines. If you have not received your phone book, contact your
President.
If there are changes to be made, please phone or e-mail me. Changes will be
published in Fox Talk until a new book is printed sometime in the future.

COMPUTER CLUB George Walker
My vision of the Foxboro Green Computer Club includes a comfortable clubroom
and equipment that is updated every four or five years, so we all have an
opportunity to share some of the latest equipment and programs. It is
important to remember that the facilities belong to all of us and everyone
should feel welcome to join in the fun. And fun it is. Attendance at our
Tuesday meetings has steadily increased and we seem to learn something at
every meeting. The meetings for beginners were especially well attended.
www.foxborogreen.on.ca is now our Domain Name. We have a new Assistant
Webmaster who also has an assistant. We have a mandate from the Board which
spells out the nature of the Web site. We list homes for sale as a free
service to residents. The Computer Club has accepted responsibility for the
publication of Fox Talk, so this valuable community asset will continue.

GMO REPORT Bill Hall
A special thanks to all resident volunteers who so lovingly looked after all
the common area gardens. Linda Hett, Joanne Brodie, Mary Anne Martin, Ron &
Dale Bleier, Pam & Vic Wrzesniewski, Marilew West, Betty Spencer, Jackie &
Glen Reibling, Phyllis & Hugh Bird, Jeanne Malich, Chuck Fox and his group
of merry men and last but not least Ellen & Stewart Bowring for their
tireless efforts in keeping our gardens so beautiful.
Lawn Care contract has once again been awarded to Greenway Maintenance for
the next three years. Ron Wilkinson and Chuck Fox capably looked after our
irrigation system. Cam Magnan and Dick Demers solved many of our tree
problems. Our swans are well looked after thanks to a host of volunteer
feeders.
In addition, a student project from the University of Guelph, Faculty of
Landscape Design and Architecture is underway.
Cam Magnan has agreed to be the new Convenor of the Grounds Maintenance
Organization.
FOX TALK STAFF
The Fox Talk is now being produced by those members of the Computer Club who
wish to participate in the production. You do not need to be a member of
the Computer Club to get involved. There are many jobs that everyone can
learn. Rosemary Schaaf needs volunteers for her staff of workers who will
be responsible for copying, collating and stapling the newsletter once a
month. If there are enough people, then a volunteer may only have to do it
once a year. Not bad for the pay you will receive! Many thanks to Rosemary
for accepting this job as overseer of the Copy and Circulation Dept.
Thanks to Jeanne Malich, Isobel Smith, Lil Good , Pauline Tickner, and Geri
Soloman for the many hours of dedication to learn and help with the Nov.
publication of Fox Talk. We have experienced many problems with the
computers that are housed at the centre, but with much diligence we have
produced our first Issue. We hope you approve. As we learn the new software
that is used to produce Fox Talk, you will see changes along the way that we
hope will be improvements. Please bear with us as we learn and try new
ideas.
