LIFE IN THE WORLD OF COMPUTERS

Life is not a spectator sport. It's meant to be lived, to be enjoyed, and to be participated in. This means that we take certain risks. We go for walks, we enter into relationships, we bear and raise children, we run, we jump, we work hard and play hard. In other words, we LIVE. And we do it in spite of the fact that all of these activities entail potential hazards. We could step off the curb and get hit by a car, we could initiate a relationship, only to be rejected or hurt, we could fall while climbing or hiking, we could be injured while playing tennis, football or golf. So why do we do it? Well, we know that if we take reasonable precautions we'll be reasonably safe. And we know that the risks of not participation in life, of sitting at home cocooned in safety and isolation, may be even greater than the risks of truly living.
Traversing the Internet, that vast network of networks we sometimes call the "information superhighway", is like traveling any other highway. Using it entails a certain amount of risk. A cyber-traveler's computer could be hacked, our identity stolen; our children preyed upon, our files corrupted by a virus, our sensitive data compromised.
All of these things could (and do) occur. So, what are your options? How can you ensure your safety and that of your loved ones? Well, if you were determined to circumvent highway risks of all sorts, you could always leave your car locked up in your garage. That would definitely help you avoid auto related hazards. And you could steer clear of Internet related perils in a similar fashion. Just leave your modem locked up in your garage. Or better yet, drop your computer into a 50-gallon drum of concrete, wait for it to set, then dump the whole thing into the ocean. There you go. See? Perfect safety. But at what cost? Don't stop living, but do it wisely, but live! As the old saying goes, "A ship in the harbor is safe, but that is not what ships are built for."

Written submission can be deposited to the Fox Talk mail slot located in the Rec Centre first floor across from the washrooms or preferably by e-mail to the Fox Talk address located above. Any resident can submit an item for sale/wanted or an article to be placed on the Bulletin Board page of the Fox Talk. All submissions will be checked for spelling and grammar only. The Fox Talk staff has the right to refuse any article seen not fit for publishing. This is your page. tfill.gif FUTURE EVENTS

tfill.gif Keeping In Touch

We welcomed Beth & David Clutchey to our community in May.
Our sympathy was given to Linda Gardner who lost her father and a donation was given to Heart & Stroke. Diana-Lynn Paleczny also lost her father. A donation will be sent to the Parkinson's Association. Sympathy cards were given to Ella Dietrich who lost her brother-in-law and Pearl Battley who lost her sister.
Bill Balcomb has had a persistent cough & cold. He received a card so he knows we miss him around the community. Wilma Wilkinson is recovering from surgery. We gave her (an avid reader) a book to help pass the time. Jocelyn Kennedy received nuts after her operation. Linda Skelton received a hanging planter after her partial knee replacement,

Diana-Lynn Paleczny flowers after her accident and Dale Bleier a singing goldfinch after her hospitalization. (Reservations are required to view "the bird"!!)
Ken Smith and Vic Wrzesniewsiki had surgeries this month and received chocolates with their get-well cards. We are glad to see that everyone is up and running, after their surgeries, although there's been no sign that Ken's hit the golf course yet.

tfill.gif COMPUTER CLUB

The computer club meets every Tuesday evening at 7p.m.. Residents can bring their concerns to these meetings for help in solving problems and also learn many different aspects of the computer.
Next month there will be a show and tell time each week with residents showing some of their accomplishments. Arnold Muma is an excellent source of information on putting your still pictures on a CD or making a video of them. The cost is $10 for a year's membership in this very active group.
The computer club is responsible for producing the Fox Talk, the community web page and Tuesday evening presentations.

FOXBORO GREEN 10tth ANNUAL GOLF TOURNAMENT
Thursday, August 12th
Bill Hall

The first tournament was organized by Bob Barnhart for his many sub-contractors and employees and the very few Foxboro Green residents in the summer of 1995. For the past 5 years Jim Arbuckle and his committees have organized the event and created a purpose over and above the personal enjoyment of the participants. We now donate to the "Hopespring Cancer Support Centre". Hopespring was started by one of our residents and several of your current neighbours are active support staff at the centre. It is our way, (the community of Foxboro Green) to give something back to the K.W. commodity that supports us in so many ways. More information and participant sign-up forms will be posted and available in the mailroom in early June. Sign up and enjoy the day. Help us reach outside our own community and support "Hopespring".

tfill.gif BINGO

BINGO IS ON! - COME ONE! - COME ALL

Remember that we play Bingo on the second Friday of every month until further notice. Presently, we are putting the proceeds into an account to buy an overhead projector for the community. This will assist in Board Meeting Presentations and everyone in the community will benefit from it. The more bodies we have to play bingo, the more money we make, and the faster we will get the projector. To support bingo is to support Foxboro Green.
Last month's lucky jackpot winner was Bill Waylett. Congratulations Bill. Our next Bingo is on Friday, June 11th at 7:30p.m. We hope to see you then.

tfill.gif LINE DANCING
Lil Good
Just a reminder that Salons A & B are booked from 1:00p.m. - 3:00p.m. every Monday for line dancing. For those wishing to return books, please wait for dancers to stop dancing before walking through to the library. Books can be left with Bob in the TV room if you are in a hurry. For those wishing to borrow books, it would be appreciated if you could wait until the dancers are finished their dance. Most of the dances are only three to four minutes long, and it is very disrupting to the dancers and the instructor if someone walks through as they are dancing. Your consideration would be appreciated.

tfill.gif REC CENTRE REPORT
Ron Donaldson
Spa Cover
A cover has been placed on the spa to try to control chlorine odours and to reduce heat loss. It is imperative to COMPLETELY REMOVE the cover when using the spa. We don't want anyone to disappear. The cover should be replaced if no one else is planning to use the spa.
Spa Blinds
The long blinds on the pool window are being repaired. These blinds should not be closed unless absolutely necessary and especially if someone is in the pool alone. This is for your safety!

2005 Budget Requests
Preliminary budget proposals are to be prepared for June 30th. If any group using the Centre facilities has a budget request, a written proposal with cost estimates should be presented to Ron Donaldson as soon as possible.
Parking Lot Lights
One light has been out due to a short in the underground wiring. Repairs have been ordered.
Pool Lights
The overhead lights in the pool area are frequently left on and they are very costly to operate and maintain. The Board has given permission to disconnect the high overhead lights on a trial basis in order to conserve energy and save on costs.
Barriers
Peter Soloman has constructed new barriers for use during private functions at the Centre. They are kept in the storage room off the TV lounge. One set is for use at the top of the stairs to discourage outside guests from going down to the lower area of the Centre. The other set is for use in the lower hall when a private function is using the outdoor kitchen or the back yard. This barrier should be placed in the hall between the workshop and the billiard room to discourage access to the billiard room, exercise room and the pool area.

tfill.gif S & E COMMITTEE
Bill Simpson
Home Irrigation System
The system was turned on April 30 with three leaks occurring, all minor and since repaired. Jim Baird, a new member of our committee, will be joining Stewart Bowring and Derek Tickner in looking after the system. Residents are reminded of zonal watering restrictions with zones #1 and #3 at the front and rear of the subdivision watering on odd numbered days and zone #2, (the high middle area) watering on even numbered days. These restrictions are in effect to provide better water pressure for the higher area rather than to conserve water, which is not an immediate problem given the current high level of the lake. If in doubt, please check with your neighbours or one of the members of the committee mentioned above.

PATH WORK
Thanks to the efforts of a work party, the path through the bush as well as the paths behind Woods Edge Court have been resurfaced. We had a pile left over from our work party last October at the Sun Valley sewage treatment plant, which had to be removed before the Region takes over the site and it only made sense to order in sufficient additional material to do the whole job. Work was no more than just completed and looking very "pretty" when horse riders invaded our property and tore up a long section. We have since placed new rope barriers and "no trespassing" signs, hopefully to deter future trespassers. However, with the work that we did last fall, we have more than spent our budget allotment for path work and no more will be done this year except for periodic spraying and maintenance. Our committee, with the use of the service vehicle will now perform this with the new sprayer purchased last year. Virtually all of the paths in the subdivision have now been resurfaced except for the interior paths across two of the tile fields.

FUTURE WORK PLANNED FOR THIS YEAR
1. The line paintings on the streets and parking areas need to be redone. This is not an expensive item, last time costing approx. $400.00.
2. The lower portion of the gazebo needs repainting and this is presently underway, having been power washed by Bill Muzak, another new member of our committee. Bill will be completing the painting work shortly with the help of volunteers whom he will be "conscripting".
3. The fence at the front of the property along with a relatively short one beside the driveway to the Rec Centre will be repainted this year with a work party. However, this will be delayed until September to allow the wood to be well dried out. This was last done almost five years ago with a work party headed by George Jones.
4. We continue to have a soggy ground problem in the common area behind the Nairn, Denstedt and Wilby properties, particularly in the springtime. We have looked at this before and obtained a price, which was prohibitive at the time, to install drains. These have to go in two directions towards catch basins. We are looking at doing this mainly with a work party and only hiring the trenching. Costs are being determined, however, this will only be undertaken in the fall in our next year's budget.
5. George Walker has undertaken to have several of the benches that are mainly scattered around the lake rejuvenated with new boards. These are the original benches supplied by the developer and have since deteriorated. One has already been completed which is situated behind the Rec Centre.

YOUR S & E COMMITTEE
Our committee meets on the first and third Thursdays of every month, 9:30 a.m. in the craft room. We always welcome new members or please feel free to attend if only to make yourself known to us as someone who is available to help out with projects. We have several individuals who hate attending meetings but are willing to be on call for projects such as path rebuilding.

MESSAGE FROM A RESIDENT
Bob Price
Jan and I have lived in Foxboro for 8 1/2 years and due to medical problems have been unable to enjoy walking though the forest at the south end of our property.
While I was helping to resurface the paths in our forest, I traveled through this area many times realizing what beauty and serenity Jan and I had missed. This is nature at its best and it's right at our back door. As our health improves, we are looking forward to experience another feature of Foxboro that we have missed these past few years. If you haven't been through the forest, it's accessible from the paths on either side of our property. When walking through the forest, keep an eye out for the Jack in the Pulpits.....and I don't mean Jack Paleczny.

PATH RESURFACING RUINED
Bob Price
Volunteers from Foxboro spent many hours and a lot of your money for materials to resurface the walking paths in the forest at the south end of our property. On the weekend of May15th-16th, people riding horses used these paths. There was so much damage done from the horses it has made it very difficult to walk on these paths. If you use these trails, please be careful.
We have informed the police and if you are walking and see any horse and riders using our trails, please take notice of the time of day, date, colour of horse, rider (male or female) type of dress and if possible discreetly get their name. Pass any information on to me and I will see that the police are contacted.

tfill.gif Grandfathers

Grandfathers Are Fathers Who Are Grand
Restoring the sense that our most precious things
Are those that do not change much over time.
No love of childhood is more sublime,
Demanding little, giving on demand,
Far more inclined than most to grant the wings
Allowing us to reach enchanted lands.
Though grandfathers must serve as second fathers,
Helping out with young and restless hearts,
Each has all the patience wisdom brings,
Remembering our passions more than others,
Soothing us with old and well-honed arts.
