SHUFFLEBOARD Elaine Simpson
You may have noticed a lot of activity going on down by the pond recently.people with sticks in their hands pushing these round disks up and down the courts and having a great time! No, it isn't bocce ball, it is not street hockey, and no we aren't practicing bowling with sticks! We are learning to play the game of Shuffleboard, which is so popular with all those snowbirds down south. If you like being outdoors, not exerting yourself too much and enjoy a good laugh, this is the game for you. Presently we are playing on Monday mornings and Wednesday afternoon. Once summer arrives we hope to schedule an evening session also. If you can walk and hold a stick you'll be a natural, so come on out and enjoy! We are happy to teach you the "fine art" of shuffling and guarantee you a lot of fun.

CARE COMMITTEE Marg Macdonald
A Valiant Fight is Lost
Elsie Hall won the hearts of all who knew her, her sparkling eyes, her springy walk, her brilliant smile, her interest in others. Elsie not only loved fun herself but loved to create fun for others whether it was entertaining at home, organizing potluck, preparing goodies for bridge or going out to community events and playing games. Many of us have watched her in the various stages of her battle. She strived to participate in activities when she could and constantly made the best of every day. As Bill said in his address at the funeral, Elsie loved to win and she won our hearts. The outpouring of sympathy has been overwhelming as our community grieves for a wonderful friend and neighbour.
The care committee wishes to thank the community for their generous support in hosting the funeral reception
Keeping In Touch Marg Macdonald
A plant and card was delivered to Doris Rittinger after her hospitalization. Betty Waylett received a hanging plant after her illness and Elaine DesRoches some flowers.
Jan & Mike Putnam, Norma & Doug Murray were welcomed to Foxboro Green last month.
**Special Note: Eileen Fairweather has replaced Marg Macdonald on Care Committee# 2 from May 20th to August 5th.
Donations to the Care Committees
Thank you Shirley Thom and Brenda Sinclair for your very generous donations in support of the activities of the Care Committees. On behalf of Shirley and Brenda we thank the many residents who through food and service helped and continue to support them through their loss.
Again Shirley and Brenda, thank you!
The Computer Club Annual Report GeorgeWalker
This has been a good year for the Computer Club. Our Tuesday night Lessons for Beginners continue and attendance has grown to over thirty.. We are learning that the greatest need is helping beginners. The first part of every meeting will be devoted to teaching beginners. There is plenty of time later in the evening for teaching more advanced lessons.
We have been given permission to install a lockable cabinet in the TV lounge to hold a computer, printer and related parts. The issue of funding these improvements or changes keeps being raised with no solution at this time.
Computer Club members have been actively involved in raising funds through Monthly Bingo games. Donations have been received from people sympathetic to our need for having reliable computing resources for producing Fox Talk and teaching others at our weekly computer meetings.
We live in a community where talented people are willing to share their knowledge and expertise. Every Tuesday at 7 p.m. you can benefit from skilled people sharing their computer knowledge. This same knowledge goes in to the production of Foxtalk and the maintenance of the Website.
If you haven't availed yourself of the lessons on our Website, go to www.foxborogreen.on.ca. Click on Computer/Club/Lessons. Have a look, and if you like what you see, print out the lessons. They are a useful study guide for many of the things we talk about Tuesday evenings.

WARNING NOTICE WARNING NOTICE
RE: HEIL FURNACES AND AIR CONDITIONERS
An upgraded notice to all residents who have HEIL equipment (Furnace, Air Conditioner) installed in their homes. I have spent in excess of $500 on the Heil equipment in my home since 1995 for inspections, service and parts. This winter while we were away I required service on the furnace and a part was replaced at a cost of $309.00. This prompted me to call the main office in Tennessee to complain, and mention that with past experience I feel a furnace should be good for 15 to 20 years without major expenses. I was told the warranty is for 5 years, I had to have complete documentation covering invoices re: warranty repairs, service and parts that I paid for. In addition, I had to show proof that I have had the furnace and air conditioner inspected by a licensed technician each year. Since I did not have this documentation, I was out of luck.
A word to the wise should be sufficient. Keep all documentation concerning your Heil furnace and air conditioner.
PANCAKE BREAKFAST Ron Wilkinson
(on behalf of the Pancake Breakfast Committee)
One hundred and nineteen residents and guests attended the Pancake Breakfast. The 8:00 a.m. sitting was the least popular, while the later sittings were sold out. We will most likely revise the format to reflect these facts when we meet to plan the September Breakfast.
A surplus of $90.00 was realized from the pancake breakfast. This money was given to Nithview on behalf of Gwynnedd Brundrett who donated the water plants to our Pond
Thanks for your support. See you in September.
Lake & Pond Committee Report Marg. Macdonald
The pond management plans made for 2001-2002 are now fully implemented.
The Sun Valley pond trees and shrubs are flourishing. Some of the trees and shrubs are labeled so that everyone will know what they are. However, water testing reveals that the nutrient levels in this pond (nitrates and nitrites) are so elevated that the water is toxic to fish. We hope that growth of the aquatic plants will help absorb some of this from the water. The source of the nutrient load is largely attributable to the lawn treatment in the area. The Sun Valley pond receives the run off from Maue Court, the south end of Golf Links Drive, all of Sun Valley, and Woods Edge Court. Cautious and careful use of fertilizers and herbicides throughout our community would be very helpful to the health of all our ponds and the lake.
The Recreation Centre Pond has 3 aerators and two bags of barley straw. The compressor will soon be housed in a little hand-made box (thanks to Ron Wilkinson and Derek Tickner). Derek and his team are giving the pond an enzyme treatment every two weeks. In the lake the mills continue to agitate the water increasing the oxygen level. We have added barley straw to help reduce algae growth. In 2002-2003, our focus will be to improve the appearance of the lake. The results of this year's treatment of the Recreation Centre Pond, will help us to make decisions about the management of the lake. Every year we are working to build and improve our pond management.
Everyone misses the Waterfall. The S&E committee, especially Stewart Bowring, have been trying to solve the serious problem of the waterfall pump. They hope to have it solved soon. We are putting barley straw in this area also to reduce algae growth.
Mary Ann Martin and Linda Hett are leading the Pond Committee during May, June & July. They welcome your comments, questions and suggestions, so feel free to contact them.
CRAFT, HOBBY AND BAKE SALE Elaine Simpson
Last years sale was such a roaring success, we will hold another event Sunday, October 20th, provided there is sufficient interest within the community. This will strictly be a sale whereby all participants will be selling their arts and crafts. In addition, there will be a bake table with various homemade sweets and savories anything from cookies to salsa, candies, preserves, etc. We are extending an invitation to the children of our residents to participate, provided they have made them. The cost for a small table will be $5.00 and $10.00 for the larger tables. In order for us to determine if there is enough interest, would you please indicate by signing the participation sheet that will be located in the mail room.
