Allan Groves has joined the Fox Talk staff as our new food editor. Allan is planning "The Cook's Corner" with many of his own recipes and comments. tfill.gif SHUFFLEBOARD
Elaine Simpson
The shuffleboard has been up and running for over a month now and such an enthusiastic group! We have settled on four sessions per week - Wednesday at 12:30pm and 2:30pm, Thursday at 2:30pm and 6:30pm. The sign- up sheets are in the mail room and they have been filling up very rapidly, so you may wish to get down there on Wednesdays to sign up for the following week. It's a great game for all ages and a wonderful way to get to know our neighbours. See you down there!

CALLING ALL BINGO PLAYERS

We had a great turn out for our June 14th bingo game. The Computer Club would like to thank all who attended in the past, for their support in helping us to get closer to our goal for a new computer and cabinet.

Remember our monthly Bingo Games are on the 2nd Friday of every month. Our next Bingo is on July 12th at 7:30p.m. Bring a friend along for a great evening of fun.

Last month's big winner was Helen Fraser of Golf Links Drive.

OOPS! WE MADE A MISTAKE

Last month we announced that the winner was Connie Greenshields.when in fact our winner was Aida Tengler.

tfill.gif CRAFT, HOBBY AND BAKE SALE
Elaine Simpson
If you are planning on participating in the Craft, Hobby and Bake Sale on Sunday, October 20th, would you please indicate such on the sign up sheet in the mailroom. We realize October seems far in the future, however we need the number of participants to determine if we should hold this show on an annual or bi-annual basis. In addition, if you are considering donating an item for the bake table, we would appreciate an indication of this on the sheet. Events of this nature help to support the work of the social committee and the Wilmot Food Bank, so your participation and support are appreciated.

ONE VOICE/ONE VISION CAMPAIGN

You may recall that Bill and I had volunteered to canvass our community for donations towards the One Voice/One Vision campaign and co-ordinate the submission of the donations. Unfortunately, the mailings did not arrive en masse and it was not feasible to canvass individual homes. Instead, we placed information on the campaign in the lobby, and pledge forms and deposit box in the mailroom. Our many thanks to those of you who deposited your contribution form or brought them around to our home. If you wish to make a donation to this very worthwhile venture, it is not too late. Donation forms and the deposit box will be available in the mailroom until July 15th. If you have any questions, we would be pleased to answer them for you.

tfill.gif DISTRICT 26 SENIOR GAMES 2002
Pat Tibbles
District 26 encompasses all of Waterloo and Wellington counties, and therefore covers a very wide area (Guelph, Fergus, Elmira, Kitchener, Waterloo etc.) All residents of this region 55 yrs. or older were eligible to participate in one or more of the 24 events. District 26 games this year ran over 8 days from May 27 to June 6, and were hosted by Wilmot Township. Most of the venues were in or near New Hamburg.

Foxboro Green was well represented in several ways. Ted and Pat Tibbles were on the Games Committee and were responsible for recruiting and assigning volunteers to the events. Jim Arbuckle convened the Golf, ably assisted by Wally Morrison, Nancy Arbuckle and Joyce Morrison. May Aquilina convened Scrabble and Ralph Adsetts headed up the Tennis. May also composed a poem dedicated to the games which she read at the Opening Ceremonies, to the delight of a large crowd. Line Dancing competition was expertly judged by Lil Good, Eileen and Ross Fairweather.

There were a number of participants from Foxboro and several were medal winners:
Prediction Walking - Olga Teply Gold
Lawn Bowling - Stan and Beatie Mayhew Gold
Golf - Doug Wendland, Isobel & Ken Smith Gold
Vince Aquilina and Bob Webber Bronze
Men's Bowling - Ken McGrath, George Jones Dick Dean, Jim Brodie, Brian McKelvey Bronze
Ladies Bowling - Rita Hill, Sheila Jones, Gladys Hartley, Helen Wright, Janice Long Honourable Mention Others who participated were: May Aquilina & Allan Groves (lawn bowling)

Gold medal winners from 40 districts in Ontario are invited to participate in "Actifest", which will be staged in Kingston in mid-August. We understand that Olga Teply, Doug Wendland, Ken & Isobel Smith and Stan & Beatie Mayhew will be carrying the flag for Foxboro Green at that event, and we wish them luck !

tfill.gif GOLF TOURNAMENT
Jim Arbuckle
FOXBORO GREEN ANNUAL GOLF TOURNAMENT

Our annual tournament will be held on August 8, 2002 at Foxwood. While we have not changed the format of our tournament, once again we decided that it was time to give a little something back to the community. The profits from our tournament will go towards Hope Spring Cancer Support Centre in Kitchener, where some of our residents volunteer. Hope Spring receives no government funding, relying on the community at large for their funds. We believe that all of us can afford the little extra that we have placed in the fee. We also think this helps your prize team to continue their fine efforts on our behalf.

Application forms are available in the Rec. Centre in a folder marked Foxboro Green Golf Tournament. Should you have any questions or concerns, please contact one of the committee. We were all listed in the June Fox Talk.

tfill.gif CARE COMMITTEE
Pat Tibbles
The Care Committee continues to lend a hand of support to the community. Do let us know if we can be of assistance. Expressions of sympathy were extended to Anna Mae and Jim Zister on the death of her brother, to Helen and Don Fraser on the death of his brother and to Carol and Alan Cameron on the death of his sister. A plant was delivered to Liane Trottier and a fruit basket to Paul Stigter after their recent hospital stays. . Margaret and Donald Cowley, Ruth and John McKenna, and Myrelle and Stewart Rees were welcomed to Foxboro Green this past month.

tfill.gif COMPUTER INTEREST CLUB
George Walker
Welcome to the world of computing. Foxboro Green Computer Interest Group (CIG) meets every Tuesday evening at 7:00 p.m. in the lounge area. The first half of each meeting is devoted to beginners and the basics of computing. Questions and answers are always a part of the evening's program.

Positive things are happening with the proceeds from our monthly Bingo games. Thanks to all who have participated, the Computer Club is now the proud owner of a new high speed Canon printer. A portion of the proceeds from last month's bingo was given to the Care Committee. Once the computer club reaches its goal, we hope to continue contributing to the community.

Future workshops are in the making for anyone wishing to join the Computer Interest Group. Starting on July 31st , there's a workshop for making a gift calendar, and in August, a workshop for Word 2000 will begin. Those wishing to attend should make a point to sign up at our Tuesday evening meetings. There will not be a sign-up sheet on the bulletin board and workshops will be limited.

Come out to our club meetings and see some of the creative things that can be done with a computer. For a $10 annual membership, we provide the following:
Beginners Lessons
Workshops

Cam Magnan
Hi! It is hard to believe that it is already July, and half the year is gone. There is never enough time to get everything done. Progress to date is as follows. All of the Common Areas with the exception of the paths have now been treated with herbicides. We plan to divert most of the fertilizer planned for the front of the property to the tile beds for this season.

Our arborist will be doing some necessary pruning. The large willow at the East Entrance to the Rec. Centre is dying. We have been told by two separate arborists that it is becoming a hazard and should be removed. This will probably be done in September.

When the geese start to arrive in significant numbers, we will be bringing in Collie Wildlife Control to encourage them to leave. If anyone has concerns regarding this, I have material that outlines their program and you are welcome to see it.

We are anticipating getting started on treating the lake at the gazebo end. We have a pond treatment company applying for the permit. Because we are part of the Grand River Water System, we are severely restricted in what we can do. We also will need to shut down the house lawn irrigation system for 5 days when the treatment is applied. Major improvement in the entire lake requires significant funding and hence will have to wait until next year.

If anyone is unhappy with anything we are doing, we would be happy to have you attend our Wednesday morning meeting to discuss your concerns. We are looking forward to receiving your opinions. If you did not receive a survey, please call me at 634-9850. A summary of the results will be made available in August.

PLEASE DO NOT DUMP CUT BRUSH OR TREES ON FOXBORO COMMON AREAS.
THIS ALSO APPLIES TO OUR CONTRACTORS

tfill.gif NOTE OF THANKS
The Staff
The Fox Talk staff wishes to thank all who have submitted reports or articles in the past.
This is an update to help you to assist the staff, who work very hard at pulling together all the news and articles of interest to the community. All articles should be done in Word or WordPad and then if possible, e-mailed to the "[email protected]" account. This makes it easy for the staff to copy and paste. Please do not give or send articles to an individual. They are to be placed in the slot designated for Fox Talk at the Rec. Centre. Any reports that are hand written should have the name and phone number of the person submitting Floppies will be returned on request, or can be picked up at the centre.
