Foxboro Green Bowling Club ended up in fine style with our Annual Pizza Party. We had a lot of fun with the "Funny Bowling", such as being blindfolded and using your opposite hand.

We will be starting up again on Monday January 13th at 1 pm as usual. There will be no set teams and anyone is welcome.

Marg Macdonald
A Special Thank You to Fox Talk Staff
Thank you for arranging the Care Committee information on the monthly calendar. I am certain it will help residents to remember to notify us of illnesses and losses.
Thank you all.
Merry Christmas & Happy New Year
You are doing an A1 job!!

tfill.gif Keeping in Touch

Doris Bruder remains in hospital and will until her next operation. We have delivered a wee snowman to help brighten her Christmas away from home. Hugh Bird is recovering well from his surgery. A Foxboro Santa is speeding him on his way! Dick Potvin received fruit, which is the healthy way to recovery, while Ross Fairweather had to have chocolate as he's not allowed to chew hard after his eye surgery! We wish them all well. Bill Goddard and Charlie Connell received community sympathies following the loss of their brothers.

I would like to express the appreciation of the board of directors for the involvement and participation of the Foxboro community in the December 19th elections. I believe we had something in the area of 80% plus of the homeowners voting in the election.

We look forward to the community's continued involvement and input as we go forward in the next 2 years.

At our first meeting, Maurice Dean was appointed Treasurer. Jerry Elias was voted Vice President and Carole McGrath as Secretary.

On behalf of the board, we would like to wish all the members of the community a safe, healthy and prosperous 2003.

Life not only begins at forty, it begins to show.

All over Foxboro Green, the sounds of happy celebrating have turned to moans and groans as folks attempt to zip up, button up, or just bend over to see what those telltale numbers read on the bathroom scales.

Well, we have just the thing to start the New Year right. On January 21st at Christian Women's Club, a few select women will share their light and tasty recipes and even some samples, so you will be able to judge for yourselves.

You'll be delighted with the heartwarming music of popular soloist, Beverley Maranger, and inspired by Brenda McWaters from Elora, who tells of her experiences on the road of life usually by motorcycle.

The following month, on February 10th we'll be further encouraged to look and feel our best, as Marie Gerber, an authorized Nutrimetics consultant from Wellesley, demonstrates natural-based skin care products.

Sharon Kaufman returns as our special musical guest, while Beverleigh Broughton from Guelph returns to bring us up to date on her life. When last with us Beverleigh, (formerly Bater) shared how she put her life back together, after divorce and single motherhood left her feeling empty.

Be sure to mark these dates on your calendar and plan to join the group of Foxboro ladies on their trek to Stratford. These meetings will lift your spirits and help keep you from the winter doldrums.

tfill.gif Thanks So Much!

A big thank you to Helga Stamm, from the Social Committee for tidying and organizing the Storage Room. Helga is a volunteer in action, making Foxboro Green a better place. Please let us all try to keep it tidy.

Seen it all, done it all, can't remember most of it.

The day dawned crisp and clear, just perfect for the Red Hat Ladies to meet for lunch at The Waterlot. To ensure we had a chance to meet other members, we each dipped into a box and took a number that would designate which table we would sit at.

After enjoying a bit of chitchat, the floor was open for anyone to address the group. Mary Ann Martin, splendidly dressed in her purple and red, got up and gave us an eloquent rendition of a poem she wrote.

I'm here today with my red hat pals.
They sure are looking like some dolled up gals.
The people look when we walk through
They think we must have had some brew.

Old times past have been good and bad,
Lunch today we can only be glad,
It's a feeling no one knows, even if some say,
Look at those old crows.

We laugh, we vent..
Why was C.K.C.O. sent?
The Black Shop will never be the same,
After the Red Hat Ladies of fame.

There we were on the 6 o'clock news,
Dressed in red and purple, we shall not lose.

We have all been a volunteer
Most of us have had a career
Today is a day of mental health
Something we value greater than wealth.

Although we stopped meeting on Thursday mornings, some of Santa's Elves have still been sewing madly, trying to get some 10 Cuddle Quilts ready to take to the Resource Centre before Christmas. Thank you Marci Fry, for your donation of many bags of quilt batting. Judy Nussey, Sandra Snell and Mary Wright have been among the sewers who put these 10 toppers together. Thank you gals! There will be at least 10 little ones who will have something to cuddle this Christmas. We still have lots of fabric for the toppers, and therefore I would like to send out a request to those who can help. Next time you are in a fabric store, buy just one yard or metre of flannelette, any colour or pattern, to donate to the ongoing cuddle quilt giving, for the Recource Centre in New Hamburg. They really appreciate the quilts and it is very rewarding to see them get excited over the donations. Most times they have a specific child matched to a quilt before we leave. Thank you all for the donations and time spent helping this cause. You know who you are. Best wishes for the New Year!

Perhaps the most interesting event at the recent Annual Meeting, apart from the elections of course, was the "discussion" about the installation of gates at the entrance to our beautiful community. While most of us are inclined to agree with our former president that the majority of residents do not want gates, we should think about this a bit more.

Perhaps we have an opportunity here. You know how certain parking lots, for example those of two medical centres near here, require that you pay ransom for your car after visiting the doctor. Well, we can set it up so that we have to kick in a loonie every time we leave the compound. Conservatively, estimating one exit per household per day, that would be $215 per day amounting to $78,275 for the year.

Hey! If we have to pay the same to get in, it starts to get into real money. Factor in an additional 10% for underestimating and we are getting close to $200,000. Wait a minute, what if it's a toonie. Wow! We would be able to get rid of the Condo Fee completely although in fairness, some adjustments would have to be made by snowbirds to leave a bunch of loonies with their neighbours to make up their quota of exits and entrances.

Admittedly, some provision would be required for repairs to the gates, possibly necessary on a weekly, perhaps even daily, basis. Although, in this context, perhaps the gates can be made strong enough to deter accidental(?) ramming, at least strong enough to enable the identification of the ramming vehicle

We may have a winner here folks, and we haven't even included what we can collect from family members and other visitors. We will certainly find out if prospective visitors like us well enough to fork over a loonie (or toonie?) both in and out. At the very least, it may ease the wear and tear on our "not up to township standards" roads.

Congratulations to all the successful candidates. I wish to thank all those candidates who let their names stand. This was our first election for a Board of Directors at Foxboro Green and we had a good turn-out with 177 votes being cast (including proxies). We were very pleased with the high level of participation.
Many thanks to the Election Committee who spent many hours planning this election, with special mention to Ron Bleier for the ballots and tabulating forms. Thanks also to the Amalgamation Committee for their guidance.
Last but not least, thank you to the residents of Foxboro Green for your enthusiasm regarding this election.

tfill.gif A Big Thank You
Jerry Elias
On behalf of Al Cameron, your newly elected president, and your elected Board of Directors, I would like to thank the outgoing executive of all the previous condominiums as well as the interim executive and the Amalgamation Committee for the outstanding jobs they have done over the past years. There are just too many names to list individually and I am afraid that I would miss someone, but everyone in the community certainly knows who you are.

The time and effort you have devoted to the betterment of our community must not go unrecognized and therefore I think that an open letter, here in Foxtalk, is the most appropriate place to recognize all your achievements. The Community has been very well served by your efforts and you have provided the new executive with a solid base upon which to build our new corporation.
We also wish to thank the Election Committee for the outstanding job that they did and from the turn out on election night, we know that the event was certainly well advertised. The turnout, I am sure, was one of the biggest that Foxboro has seen.

Once again, a BIG THANK YOU and we look forward to serving the community as well as your executives have in the past.

tfill.gif Poetry
Ralph Adsetts
Moments in Time

There are moments in the life of us all when we have to stop and admire some sight or listen to some sound. I have written several small poems, which I have called, collectively, Golden Moments.

The first of these poems was written after I had been sitting on a seat by the side of the lake in Foxboro Green. It was early morning and the surface of the lake was perfectly still so that the trees at the far side were mirrored in the water. Two swans, which had been sitting in the shadows started across the lake and when I returned home I wrote 'Reflections'.

Reflections

Sitting silently on a lakeside seat,
The morning sun dispels the night
And glitters coldly at my feet.

Slowly rising, its golden light
From the depths of the lake
Bring clouds of white.

Two white swans on the distant shore,
Gliding silently, and now there are four.
The solemn trees of darkened mien
Burst out in brightening shades of green,
And see themselves reflected now,
The water full of leaves and boughs.

First above and now below
Move giant clouds as white as snow.
The poetry of time passes by in a moment of time.
