So often we take things for granted and don't realize the effort put in by others to keep our community assets in repair and pleasing to the eye. On behalf of the Community we would like to extend our sincere thanks to Peter Soloman and Paul Snell for the wonderful job they did sprucing up our recreation center. All the walls have been patched and painted. Thanks for giving your time and energy for the benefit of all of us.

Care Committees: Maureen Wills
Snowflakes in Action
Have you ever thought of the power of a snowflake? They're beautiful, if caught and preserved long enough to be examined through a microscope. Such intricacy, so delicate, so fleeting before it melts and fades away.
And yet, combined into a snowball they can really pack a wallop! Enough flakes can bring a community or city to a standstill.
In Foxboro Green we have seen the snowflake principle in action. In times of need, a neighbourhood bands together to support a neighbour. Sometimes they provide support to a person who is not in their neighbourhood, but do so because they know of the need. And so, when together, we can pack a punch!
Back in '98 we realized a need for a support system within Foxboro Green for members of our community. Several of our new comers developed serious illnesses. In one instance, both family members became ill and needed treatments in different medical centres, in different cities at the same time.
How could we help support these neighbours in their time of distress? It was too much for one person to handle. We knew that care would happen spontaneously. With organization more resources could be put in place spreading the weight of responsibility. And so the Care Committees were born. The community was divided into four groups. Resource sheets were sent to solicit volunteers to lead and to perform specific support services from driving to shopping, cooking, telephoning etc.
The community responded quickly and with enthusiasm. Some volunteered to lead and others volunteered to help in each area. Over the years, many members of our community have been touched by the Care Committees at one time or another. Many have also had the opportunity to provide support and enjoyed the feeling of satisfaction from helping others.
Together, neighbours helping neighbours have packed quite a wallop!
Family and friends from outside of our community marvel at the compassion and support which their loved ones had received from within the community.
None of us know what this New Year will bring - but we couldn't be in better company - with each one doing what they can.
Thank you and keep up the good work!

Christmas Dinner Marg MacDonald
On Friday December 21st. one hundred and seventy Foxboro residents gathered in their finest attire to celebrate Christmas together. We visited with friends and neighbours in the beautifully decorated ballroom, sipping cocktails and catching up on Christmas, vacation plans, and getting to know newer residents.
Places were found around the tables and we all dug into an excellent turkey dinner with all the trimmings. It was absolutely delicious. The climax to the meal was a choice of cheesecake smothered in raspberry sauce or blackforest cake. The cheesecake melted in our mouths...oh so good!
"Beyond Bliss" a musical group, entertained us with carols and fifties music. We sang along with the Christmas Carols and Connie Schaffer was outstanding, performing "five golden rings" in the "Twelve Days of Christmas"!
The climax to the evening was when Graeme Tickner, our disc jockey, started the music getting us dancing and twisting to the old tunes we love soooo well. Thanks Graeme for making this the Best Christmas Party for the Foxboro Green Residents.
Our hats go off to the people behind the scenes working away to create a successful event. Our thanks go out to Pauline Tickner who was at the helm in each part of the organising, from creating the dinner tickets, to ticket sales, bus arrangements and of course arranging for her son to provide his audio equipment. Not to forget our intrepid leader of Special Events, Ruth Cooke, who co-ordinates everything. We thank all members of the committee who spent time selecting the menu, selling tickets and creating a magical evening for all.
Bowling
The Bowling Season for 2002 will begin on January 14, at 1:00 p.m. It will be a casual format, no spares needed and no organized teams. Everyone is welcome to join us in an afternoon of fun and exercise.
Congratulations Ken McGrath for bowling a 361 game in December.
WOW!
Christian Women's Club Maureen Wills
A New Location
For six years now, a number of Foxwood ladies have been journeying to Stratford once a month to attend the Christian Women's Club. It was held at the Knights of Columbus hall which; a year ago changed hands and became the Army Navy Centre.
Beginning this month, January 22nd, the club will be moving to a new location in Stratford, the VICTORIAN INN on Roman Street, across from the Stratford Golf Course. We will be meeting in a beautiful bright room with space to grow. Among other benefits we look forward to are, linens and padded chairs, plus an on-site Children's Activity Centre so Moms and Grandmothers can enjoy the morning as well.
The morning includes a special feature, music and an inspirational speaker. There are no dues, no membership... just the opportunity to come and enjoy whenever you are interested and able.
On January 22 nd, Hicks Furs of Hamilton will present a Fashion Show of stunning fabric coats styled with trim, lining or panel inserts of reconditioned old furs. A group Close Connection, will provide the special music. The Special Feature at the next meeting on February 26th, will be interior decorating ideas by Leslie Lee of Stardust Designs.
If you think you might be interested, pick up an invitation in the Mail Room. (These go up two days before each meeting). Then, if you sign up, the Telephone Captain will arrange a ride for you, and make reservations for you at both the meeting and for the lunch afterwards. Why not try it, you might like it!
