A STRONG VOICE
for a .
... GOOD CAUSE: (from one of our own Foxboro residents)

Undoubtedly you have noticed that one of our residents has recently received semi celebrity status.

On television and in the K-W Record Tom Nairn has endorsed the current CAMPAIGN K-W in support of our local Health Centre.
Thanks, Tom, for helping to bring this worthy venture to the attention of so many. (Some have suggested that the campaign would be even more enhanced if Pat had been on television as well as in the newspaper).

Meet Your Neighbours

Frances and Adrian Schipper arrived in Canada in the early fifties from Italy and Holland respectively.

They met in Toronto and married in 1961. They have two children, Adrienne and Dirk. Adrienne has two daughters, Alexandra and Erin.

Both Adrian and Frances are actively involved in their business, Blouse Metal Products, located in Waterloo.

They moved to Foxboro Green from Sweaburg (near Woodstock), so that they can be closer to their business and with an eye on future retirement.

Their interests include outdoor activities, gardening, traveling, community activities and golf. We welcome you to our community. You couldn't have chosen a place more suited to your needs.

As thou goest, step by step, I will open up the way before thee.
Old translation of Proverbs 4:12

Child of My love, fear not the unknown morrow,
Dread not the new demand life makes of thee;
Thy ignorance doth hold no cause for sorrow
Since what thou knowest not is known to Me.

Thou canst not see today the hidden meaning
Of My command, but thou the light shalt gain;
Walk on in faith, upon My promise leaning,
And as thou goest all shall be made plain.

One step thou seest- then go forward boldly,
One step is far enough for faith to see;
Take that, and thy next duty shall be told thee,
For step by step thy Lord is leading thee.

Stand not in fear thy adversaries counting,
Dare every peril, save to disobey;
Thou shalt march on, all obstacles surmounting,
For I the Strong, will open up the way.

Wherefore go gladly to the task assigned thee
Having My promise, needing nothing more
Than just to know, where'er the future find thee,
In all thy journeying I go before.

-Frank J. Exley

Items of Note:

It is with sadness that we report that Chris Trentelman of 105 Foxboro Dr. quietly passed away in his sleep on Wednesday, April 3rd.
Chris, 78, and his wife Connie, came to Canada from Holland 40 years ago.
They moved to Foxboro Green from Mississauga on August 29, 1996.

Our heart felt concern and prayers are with Connie at this time.

........................................................ The Social Committee thanks everyone for making our first social event in Foxboro Centre so successful.
A special thanks to Bob Price, Jean & Gord Tayler, George Jones, Russ Wilson and Charlie Conner for their contributions to the evening.
..................................................

The Enumerators have been to Foxboro Green. For those of you who have been out of Country, this one time does for all time. If you were away be sure to pick up your mail back form at the Sales Office.

..................................................... Regarding Lawn Mowing: Jack Brown undertook the investigation of lawn care for the season, and contacted those who indicated interest. They have signed up with Kleck.

For those who were interested in a periodic service while away on holiday, Jack left it to those individuals to make their own arrangements.

However, for your information we learned that Kleck charges $25.00 per cut, and Shane Jacobs, just starting his own business, Jacobs Outdoor Maintenance, charges $20.00 per cut.

Fox Talk Survey Results

Thankyou to everyone who took time to fill out the survey. It has helped give us direction as to the community interests.

Out of 67 homes, 34 surveys were turned in. Hopefully that means the other half are happy with things as they are.

We discovered that the Meet Your Neighbour column is very popular. Twelve people have indicated they would give us material for this in the coming year, beside the one submitted for this issue.

Concerning adding a new column, From the Bookshelf, only 7 people said they would not be interested, and so it will appear as there is room. Eight people were willing to do book reports with one possible columnist, or co-ordinator.

Timely Tips topped the list, checked by 33 out of 34, closely followed by Buy & Sell (for your advertisments). The other four, First Person articles, and those of Community Interest, From the Recipe Box and Being Neighbourly all received 29 or 30 votes each. Of course, these articles will always be on an 'as room' basis, giving way to any Committee or Developer Reports.

As to the size of the paper only 4 preferred the smaller newsletter.
Space does not allow for the comments and suggestions, except to say we appreciate all the encouraging comments and will keep any suggestions in mind and when possible, employ.

Note the Survey attached to the newsletter.
The Social Committee is interested in determining
the interests of the community. Please fill it out and
return as directed, by April 30th.

Life's Embarrassing Moments

Every Spring when the wind blows as it has been doing lately, I am reminded of a situation I found myself in when I was about 16. I was crossing the large green space of a Conference grounds. A strong wind had risen, making it awkward for me because I was wearing a circular skirt.

The only other person about, a clergyman, whom I knew, was com- ing towards me. I had gathered the folds of my skirt, holding them tightly to my side, to prevent it ballooning out like the well known picture of Marilyn Monroe.

It's hard to walk sedately in such circumstances and I was embarrassed that this gentleman should observe my difficulty.

By the time we reached a meeting point midway, I could see the twinkle in his eyes. He diffused my angst with these words, spoken in a soft Scottish burr...
Ah, my dear, you remind me of a little poem....
The devil sends the wicked winds
To blow the girls skirts high,
But God is just, He sends the dust
To get in the mens' eye.

Keeping In Touch

Welcome cards were sent to the newest residents of our community: Larry & Lee Ann Rektor, Floyd & Caroline Golbeck and Walter & Joyce Morrison.
A plant was sent to the Fry's on the death of Marcie's father, as well as to Connie Trentelman on the sudden passing of her husband Chris.
Ed Malich, in hospital for tests, was also sent a card from the community.

Letter to the Editors

Your elected Condo Boards are now going to meet once a month due to the lengthy agendas. We are your voice in the community but we can't speak unless you give input. While we are not looking for extra items to discuss, we require your written input to help us to represent you. Instead of talking to your neighbour about a concern, give your elected condo members a short note to express your feelings. Sometimes these may be positive too.

Thankyou to those people who have taken the time to put their comments on paper. This is developing into a wonderful community and I am proud to live here. Only we can continue to extend this feeling of community by dealing with issues in a positive, not negative manner.

If you wish to get involved, there are many committees which are always looking for assistance. You will see some of their reports in other sections of this newsletter.

Speaking of this newsletter, I would like to thank Maureen & Bill for their hard work in producing our communication. I'm sure they are always looking for articles of interest.

Joint Condo Board Report

The joint Condo Board is pleased to announce that Eric Plevka has accepted the position of Director of Maintenance for Foxboro Centre. On a contract basis, Eric will montior mechanical systems within the complex and provide general supervision over continuing care for our new facility. We are delighted that Eric has accepted this position and wish him well in this endeavour.

The joint Condo Board is pleased to announce that Allan and Heather Keith have volunteered to act as Activities Co-ordinators for Foxboro Centre. They will arrange all bookings for the Centre and follow through with the details like deposits, etc. Any activity taking place at the Centre must now be booked through Al or Heather. Please note that the calendar on the bulletin board is for your information only, and should only be marked by Al or Heather, or their appointees.

In this connection, we need one or two volunteers to cover for those times when the Keiths might be away. If you could help with this please call Al or Heather 634-5859.

The joint Condo Board has installed a committee to administer the Foxboro Centre until a duly elected committee can be installed at our annual meeting in September. That committee is made up of one representative from each condo unit. We are listing these representatives so that any inquiries might be directed to them.

Condo Unit #238 Jim Arbuckle, or Marg Wendland
Unit #242 Bill Wills Unit #243 Tom Nain
Unit #249 Al Keith Unit #250 Jack Koehler
Unit #257 Marcel Latreille
Rosanna Olsson represents the Social Committee.

The initial operational structure has been initiated by this committee and will be in effect until the annual meeting in September. At that time, when a new committee is installed, all policies will be reviewed to make sure that the will of the community is properly expressed and carried out.

The board would like to remind residents that pets are NOT allowed in Foxboro Centre. Your attention is also drawn to the community rules that require pets to be under the control of the owner at all times and that proper sanitation procedures (if the pet poops the owner scoops) must be adhered to at all times.

Signs of Spring

We are all eagerly looking for any sign that tells us spring is here. The increasingly warm sun has melted our mounds of snow and the grass is showing, at least as of this writing. The robins are on the wing and our Snowbirds are also returning. Another sure sign is the proliferation of fliers advertising lawn care that are appearing at our doors. So take heart!

One more piece of evidence occurred on Sunday. Oscar and Felix were brought back to the pond. Along with them came 2 black swans that were too young last spring to stand up to Oscar and Felix' intimidating tactics.

However, all that changed over the winter. To get them used to each other, the swan keeper kept them in a pen with a mesh screen between them. Then in the new year the screen was removed, and as Gillian tells it, the black male walked right up to the white swans and backed them up against the wall. Let's hope they all turn their attention to the geese that are already amassing. That is their real job here at Foxboro Green, besides being beautiful.

WARNING: The swans are apt to be aggressive until they settle down in their new habitat. Also, this is mating season and the blacks are male and female. Therefore, until at least June, please keep your distance. Especially watch your grandchildren when they are visiting that they do not go near the swans.

Chris Rice is now the new feeder. Thanks go to Dick and Doreen Dean for their faithful care of the swans last year.

NAME THOSE SWANS: It was Jean Fox, who gave Oscar and Felix their names. She and her husband, Charles, were the first residents of Foxboro Green. Now our black male and female swans need names. Put your thinking caps on and place your suggestions in the box in the mail room.

Grand Opening of Foxboro Centre

A grand opening of Foxboro Centre is scheduled for Saturday, June 14, 1997
Please mark your calendar for this date and plan on an afternoon of celebration with your fellow residents and Foxboro Green Inc.

Watch for more details in next month's Newsletter.
Deadline for Submissions is the 10th of each month. Editors: Bill and Maureen Wills 117 Golf Links Dr. Seeing the faces of dear friends such as yourselves filled me with immeasurable joy. That you all managed to keep the surprise even tho we saw most of you, within the previous two days, makes it all the more remarkable. I think you will agree with me when I say that Bill's unique brand of humour and Maureen Joy's special touches made the evening one that none of us will soon forget. It made it even more special for me that my Mom, along with our cousin Eleanor Jean Bowman and her husband, Orvie, were also there. Then the phone calls, from our oldest daughter Deborah, in Sackville, N.B. (whom, I discovered later, was quite ill, and still is), then Lori, from her tropical Groote Eyelande off the N. coast of Australia, with little Graham's Happy Birthday, Grandma , (the first sentence I've heard him speak), tipped the happiness scales for me. Murray Wellman was out to the house a few days later and I told him what a wonderful tribute he gave.. but that I couldn't remember a word he said. He laughed and said he couldn't either. Must be that old-timers disease going around. I think it is probably a good thing I can't remember too much of what was said, lest it go to my head. I told Bill when we got home that I felt as tho I had been to my own funeral.. such wonderful eulogies... No-one ever says She talked too much, or she was a poor housekeeper, or anything like that. But I do appreciate all the lovely expressions and memories from each one who took part, both friends and family alike. There was one thing I especially wanted to correct, but forgot when Bill gave me the opportunity to speak. M.J., however said it after everyone had gone home. Dad, everything you said tonight was the truth, except the part about you marrying out of your class. I must concur! It is I who feel I don't deserve such a wonderful husband, and continually thank the Lord for bringing us together. Thirty-seven years ago when we first recognized that the Lord had drawn us together, to become husband and wife, we asked the Lord to give us a verse to take with us into marriage. We both forgot about this until about 3 months later when each of us, while having our devotions, miles apart, neither following any specific course of reading, had the same verse jump out shouting..This is the answer to your request! Imagine our joy when we shared with each other that He had led us both, independently, to Psalm 48:14 For this God is our God, forever and ever. He will be our guide even unto death. Many of you asked Mom or myself for a copy of the poem that has meant so much to me, so I decided to include it on the back page. May it encourage you as it has me, to trust Him implicitly. Just 2 other items: Bill was disappointed that he forgot to tell you that the REAL celebrity with me (in my High School Reunion photo) was Lloyd Robertson; also, M.J., Bill and I want to thank you all for helping with the clean-up that night. Bless you all! Maureen Wills, with love.
