Chapter 39

Lyn opened the door, smiling as Ted walked in.  "Hey, how are you?" he asked, making his way into the living room.  "Good, and worried," she admitted.  Ted glanced towards the bedroom, "He still writing?"  "Yeah, it's been two and a half weeks now.  He's barely eating anything, and he's completely stopped sleeping," she said, sighing.  Ted put his hand on her shoulder, "Honey, if God is asking him to do this, then God will make sure he's alright."  "I hope so, but you haven't seen him lately.  He's so exhausted," she said.

"Well, I could go in and take a look at him if you want me to," Ted offered.  Lyn smiled, "Would you?"  "Yeah, just let me....." Ted started, then stopped seeing Brian emerge from the room.  Lyn looked over, "Hey sweetie, you need something?"  Brian was leaning against the door frame, his body slumped in exhaustion.  He looked at her and smiled, "I'm done."  Lyn and Ted walked over to him.  "You're done?  Completely finished writing?" she asked.  Brian nodded.  Ted put his hand on Brian's shoulder, "You look like you need to sit down, you alright?"  "I'm just tired," Brian managed to get out before his knees gave out.  Ted caught him before he hit the floor, scooping him up in his arms and heading into the bedroom with him.  He placed Brian on the bed, then began examining him.

Lyn stood next to the bed, "Is he OK?"  "I think so.  He's overly exhausted and I'm sure a little malnourished.  Nothing a good IV and a lot of rest won't cure," he said.  "He needs an IV?" she asked.  "It would help him get back on his feet faster.  I'll call the office and have them deliver a machine and some supplies.  You do remember how to work one don't you?" Ted asked.  "I think so, it's been a while since we did that with Nick," she said.  "Well, I'll refresh your memory after I get him set up," Ted said, grabbing the phone off the night stand and placing his call.

Lyn sat down on the side of the bed, taking Brian's hand in hers.  She gently stroked his face, relieved that he was finally finished.  She glanced over at the computer, the last page still displayed on the screen.  She got up and walked over, making sure the document was saved, she closed the program and shut down the computer for the first time in almost three weeks.  She then reached down and picked up the last of the pages from the printer, taking the opportunity to read them while they were waiting for the supplies Ted had called for.

She was in tears by the time she read the last page.  Not sad tears, but tears of joy and hope.  Ted watched as she wiped her cheeks, placing the papers with the rest.  "I've never asked, but what did he write?" Ted asked.  Lyn looked at him, "It's the most wonderful, inspiring thing I've ever read.  It's hard to explain though, it's like his life story, mixed in with his thoughts and his faith.  There are just no words to describe how it makes you feel to read it.  It's like finding the joy and happiness that you've been looking for, realizing that there is a God out there and that He does care about us, it's incredible."  Ted smiled at her.  "What?" she asked.  "You, the look on your face as you were describing it.  It's almost like you're glowing or something," he said.  "I am.  I can't explain what reading that book has done for me.  I mean I've always believed in God, but now it's like I know Him.  I've found the joy that I lost a long time ago, and I will never lose it again," she said.  Ted walked over and gave her a hug, "Sounds like I need to read it."  Lyn nodded, "Everyone needs to."

Nick and Tara sat on the balcony, looking over the city.  "I can't believe you're leaving in the morning," Nick said, pulling her closer to him.  Tara looked up at him and smiled, "It won't be for long.  Then I'll be back here, helping with the war."  Nick sighed, "Yeah, but I'm gonna miss you."  "And I'll miss you too," she said, gently touching his cheek.  Nick gently smoothed Tara's hair away from her face, staring into her eyes.  "What's wrong?" she asked, seeing the mixed feelings there.  "I'm worried," he admitted.  "Honey, I'll be fine," she said.  He smiled at her, "I know you will.  I'm worried about leading this whole thing."

Tara sat up straighter and faced him, "Nick, you will do great."  He shook his head, "I dunno.  I remember leading some battles, but they were so long ago.  I'm afraid that my ideas are gonna backfire on us or something."  Tara took his hand in hers, "Honey, God chose you to do this.  He wouldn't have if He didn't know you could.  Your human side is just getting cold feet, that's all."  Nick sighed and looked down at his hands, "I guess."  Tara took his chin in her hand and lifted his head up, "I know.  I believe in you Nick, and so does everyone else.  The entire army is ready to follow you where ever you tell them to go.  God will always be there, leading you in the right direction."  He smiled at her, "What am I gonna do without you while you're gone?"  She grinned, "Miss me terribly, and kick some major demon ass."  They both laughed, easing the burden they both felt.

Nick leaned down and kissed her lips.  Tara wrapped her arms around him, moving closer as the kiss deepened.  Nick pulled away, staring at her.  His eyes were dark with desire and blazing with an intensity that Tara had never seen before.  "Baby, will you sing for me?" he asked, almost in a whisper.  Tara nodded, taking his hands in hers as she started singing.  Nick closed his eyes as a soft moan escaped his lips, "God, I love this," he said as the feelings coursed through him.  Tara smiled, standing up and leading him through the house and into their bedroom.

Lyn sat on the edge of the bed watching as Ted finished hooking up the IV.  He had added a vitamin mixture to the regular IV.  "This should have him up and running in no time," he said, turning back to Lyn.  "Thanks," she said.  "So you remember how to change the bags and reset the machine, right?" he asked.  She nodded, "Yeah."  "Good.  I guess I'll head home then.  If you need anything I'm a phone call away, OK?" he said.  Lyn got up and followed him out of the room, "Alright, I'll see you tomorrow."  "OK hon, take care," Ted said, hugging her.  "I will," she said, seeing him out.

She turned to go back to sit with Brian when the phone rang.  She grabbed the one in the kitchen, "Hello?"  "Hello Lyn, this is Jason," he said.  "Oh hi Jason, how are you?" she asked.  "Good, and yourself?" Jason asked.  "Alright," Lyn answered.  "Would Brian happen to be there?" he asked.  "Um, he is, but he's resting right now.  Could I do something for you?" Lyn asked.  "Um, well .... I was calling to ask if...uh.  Well since the tour was cancelled, and the guys all have some time off.  We were wondering if Brian would like to do another solo album, if he feels up to it.  His first one was such a success and all, we just thought that he might want to do another.  You know, keep the Boys name out in the public and all," Jason said.

Lyn glanced at the bedroom door, hoping she wasn't out of line, "Um, I'm not sure about an album, but he does have something he want's to do."  "Oh, what?" Jason asked.  "Um, do you guys have any pull with any publishers?" Lyn asked.  "Um we have dealings with a few.  Why?" he asked.  "Jason, Brian just finished a book, and I know he wants to get it published as fast as he can," she said.  "A book?  Really?" he asked, intrigued.  "Yeah, it's the most amazing thing I've read, and I'm not being biased either," she said.  He laughed, "Well, we knew Brian could write songs, but a book huh?"  "Yes, Jason if you could set up a meeting with some publishers, that would be great," Lyn urged.  "I'll see what I can do.  Can you send me something?  You know, just in case they want to see something before committing to a meeting," he asked.  "Yeah, how bout the first five chapters, would that be alright?" Lyn offered.  "Yeah, that would be great.  Fax them to my office, and I'll make some calls in the morning," Jason instructed.  "Thank you so much.  I know Brian wants this out as soon as possible," Lyn said.  "OK, fax me the stuff and we'll see what we have to work with," Jason said.  "Alright, I'll send it as soon as I hang up.  You wont be disappointed, it's really good," she said.  "OK Lyn, tell Brian I'll talk to him tomorrow," Jason said.  "Alright, thanks," Lyn said, hanging up the phone.

Lyn went into the bedroom grabbing the papers and checking on Brian before going upstairs to the fax.  She dialed the number and waited as the pages ran through.  As soon as she got the confirmation the fax went through alright, she headed back downstairs.  She placed the papers back in their spot and walked over to the bed, sitting down on the edge.  As she did, Brian opened his eyes, looking over at her.  "Hey, did I wake you?" she asked.  He shook his head, reaching for her hand.  He noticed the IV in his hand, "What's this?"  "You were a little malnourished so Ted thought it best to give you some vitamins and fluids for a while to build your body back up," she explained.  "Oh," he said, "What were you doing?  I could hear you upstairs."

Lyn bit her lip, "Please don't be mad at me, but Jason called.  He wanted to know if you would do another album while you guys were off.  I told him I didn't know, but then I told him about your book.  I asked him if he knew any publishers, and faxed him the first few chapters so he could set up a meeting."  Brian stared at her for a moment.  "Please baby, I was just trying to help.  Please don't be mad," Lyn begged.  A tear left Brian eye as he smiled up at her, "I love you so much.  Thank you for doing that."  Lyn breathed a sigh of relief, "So you're not angry?"  "No, you saved me from having to call them.  Thank you," he said, through a yawn.  Lyn smiled at him, "You need to rest."  Brian nodded as his eyes began to droop, "Will you lay down with me?"  "Of course," she said, moving to the other side of the bed and crawling in.  She spooned up to Brian, letting him lean against her, wrapping her arms around him.  Brian got comfortable, closing his eyes.  Lyn kissed the top of his head, "I love you."  Brian yawned, "I love you too," he said as he drifted to sleep.
