| Chapter 25 Kevin's psychiatrist sat there looking at him. He had long since stopped taking notes, and Kevin had finished talking several minutes ago. "Doc?" Kevin asked. "Huh, Oh I'm sorry Kevin," he said, "I'm just trying to comprehend what you just told me." "I told you, you wouldn't believe me," Kevin said. "It's not that I don't believe you, it's that what you just described to my knowledge has never happened that way before." the doctor answered. "What do you mean never happened that way?" Kevin asked. "Well, one usually doesn't realize they have a multiple, understand everything the multiple did, and merge with that personality in the span of twenty minutes. It usually takes years to achieve the first step." the doctor said. "Oh, so why did it happen in my case?" Kevin asked. The doctor looked at him, "Kevin, I'm not completely convinced that it did." "So we're back to you not believing me again," Kevin said getting frustrated. The doctor sat there staring at Kevin for a moment, "Kevin, I'd like to admit you for a psychiatric evaluation." Kevin felt a surge of panic, If the press ever got word of this it would be the end! he thought. "I don't guess under the circumstances that I have much of a choice do I?" he asked. "No, you really don't. It's either here or I'm sure a jail cell until things get figured out." the doctor said. "Well between those two I guess here is as good as it gets," Kevin said. The doctor got up to leave, "OK, I'll get the paperwork started. Someone will be in shortly to move you to your room." Kevin nodded and as the doctor left he broke down in tears. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Brian slowly awoke to see several figures standing around his bed. He blinked his eyes until his vision cleared. No one had noticed that he was awake, they were whispering among themselves. Brian looked down to see that Leighanne was holding his hand, he squeezed hers. "Hey, did we wake you up?" Leighanne asked with a smile. Brian shook his head no. Nick leaned around Leighanne so Brian could see him, "Bri, don't ever do that again, OK?" Brian flashed his most innocent smile and laughed. Brian looked around the bed, Howie and A.J. were there, and Tara was standing at the foot of the bed. Brian pointed at Tara and waved his hand for her to come closer. Tara walked around and stood next to Leighanne. Brian motioned for her to come closer, so she leaned in. "I want to talk to you," Brian said weakly. "Brian, you should be resting now, we can talk later," she said. Brian reached out and grabbed Tara's arm, "Now," he said. Tara and Leighanne exchanged concerned glances, "OK, what is it Brian?" Tara asked. Brian looked around at everyone, "Alone," he said. Everyone looked at Tara, she just shrugged her shoulders. "OK sweetie, we'll be outside," Leighanne said as she ushered the guys out. Brian waited until the door was shut before he let go of Tara's arm. Tara sat down next to the bed, "OK everyone's gone, what did you need to talk about?" she asked. Brian pulled his oxygen mask off, "I want to know what happened," he said. Tara looked confused, "What do you mean?" "What happened after you pushed me out of the door, and were you or were you not standing with me in the hall?" Tara's eyes grew wide, "You remember that?" Brian nodded his head. Tara looked down and closed her eyes, God, what do I do? Brian reached over and took her hand, Tara looked up into his blue eyes. "Tara, please tell me why you're really here," Brian asked. Tara let out a sigh, "I'm here to help you." Brian looked at her, a tinge of fear in his eyes, "Where are you here from?" he asked. Tara looked at him, "I think you already know the answer to that," she said smiling. Brian thought for a moment, "So those things you told me in the woods, was that just some story?" Tara looked away from him, as a tear fell down her cheek. "No, that was true." she said. Brian looked even more confused, "But how can you be....?" Tara looked at him and the pain in her eyes was enough to stop Brian mid sentence. "Brian, everything I told you was true, I just left some stuff out," she said. "Like what?" Brian asked. Tara looked away from him, "Brian, I couldn't handle life after I lost my fianc, so I took my own." Brian's mouth dropped open, Tara looked back at him. "I believe that God is giving me a second chance to make things right, but no one else can know, not until it's time for them to." she said. Brian looked out the window. He could see Nick staring at Tara. "What about Nick?" Brian asked. "Brian, you can't tell him," Tara pleaded. "Tara, he likes you, I can tell by the way he looks at you," Brian said, "It wouldn't be fair to him to let him think that something could happen between you." Tara knew what Brian was saying was right, whatever was happening between them had no future. "Brian, I'll tell him, but it has to be the right time, and now is not it!" she said. Brian looked back at Tara, "So, have you been here the whole time?" "Since things have been happening?" she asked, "Yes, I've been watching." "So when this is over, you'll have to leave?" Brian asked. Tara nodded her head, not wanting to say it. Brian smiled, "So you are my guardian angel?" Tara looked at him and laughed, "I guess you could say that I'm one of them." Brian looked surprised, "You mean I have more than one?" Tara laughed even harder, "Brian, you've already gone through four, you're wearing us out!" Brian laughed until he had to put his oxygen mask back on. "Brian, there is one thing I want to discuss with you while we're alone," Tara said. "What's that?" Brian said through the mask. "What do you want to do about Kevin?" she asked. Brian tensed at the mention of his name, "What do you mean?" he asked. "Brian, the FBI have no idea what happened, they haven't talked to me, and as far as I know, not to Kevin either. If you refuse to press charges they have nothing but circumstantial evidence to make a case with." Tara said. Brian thought for a moment, "It really wasn't him was it?" Tara looked Brian right in the eyes, "No, there was an evil in him, but I think it's gone now," she said. A look of worry came over Brian, "What if it's not?" Tara took Brian's hand, "Then we will take care of it." Chapter 26 |
