Chapter 6

Brian was in the wheat field.  He looked around, in the distance he could see someone.  He started walking toward them.  He felt apprehensive, why was he here after so long?  As he was walking he could hear thunder in the distance.  He turned to see an approaching storm.  He continued heading toward the person.  As he got closer he could see it was Tara.  "Brian?" she said as she came closer.  "Yeah, Tara why are we here?" he asked.  She looked at him with confusion in her eyes, "I'm not sure."  The thunder was growing louder.  They both turned to face the storm, and they could both feel the evil in it.

Leighanne ran to answer the door.  When she opened it she found Gary standing there.  Leighanne had always thought that Gary looked like Kevin.  He had the same body build, only Gary had brown hair, and gray eyes.  She always thought his eyes were haunting, she'd found herself being mesmerized by them time and time again.

"Hi Anne," he said.  "Hey Gary, come on in," Leighanne said opening the door wider.  "Don't mind if I do," Gary said as he walked in and headed for the living room.  He sat down on the couch and looked around, "Um, where is......"  "Brian?" Leighanne finished for him.  "Yeah, the old ball and chain," Gary remarked with a smile.  "He's asleep upstairs, he's not feeling well," Leighanne answered.  "Oh, sorry, hope he feels better soon," Gary said.  Leighanne smiled, "Gary, we've worked together now for what....a few years, and it always amazes me that you can't remember my husbands name."  Gary looked at her innocently, "I never said I was good with names," he said laughing.

Leighanne sat down on the couch facing Gary.  "So, did you bring the script?" she asked.  "Yes I did," Gary replied pulling it from a side pocket of his briefcase.  As he was handing it to Leighanne he dropped it on the floor.  Both he and Leighanne reached for it, and Gary's hand landed on top of Leighannes.  They looked at each other for a moment before Leighanne pulled her hand away.  Gary cleared his throat, "Well anyway here it is," he said picking it up and handing it to her.  "Thanks," Leighanne said, not looking at him.  "So, we're gonna start with scene 27," Gary said as Leighanne opened the script and thumbed through the pages to find the scene.  "Would you like to go through some of it?" Gary asked with a hopeful look in his eyes.  Leighanne looked at him, "Might as well," she said.  Gary pulled out his copy and they started reading through the scene.

Brian could feel the fear creep up inside him.  He looked at Tara, "I've got a bad feeling about this," he said.  "Yeah, so do I," Tara replied.  The wind was getting stronger, and the sunlight was being replaced by darkness.  Tara grabbed Brian's hand.  They were having to yell to hear each other now.  "What should we do?" Brian asked with fear in his eyes.  Tara looked around for some kind of clue, some sign as to what to do next.  Finding nothing she pulled Brian into a hug, "God help us!"

Nick and Howie were sitting on the patio enjoying the afternoon.  Nick had tried to avoid asking Howie why he wanted to come stay with them, he figured Tara would pick up on it and tell him later anyway.  "So, how are you and Tara doing?" Howie asked taking a sip of his tea.  Nick smiled, "We're great."  "Good, I'm happy for you," Howie said, "Um, Tara mentioned that Bri and Lee got into a fight.  What was that all about?"  "Oh, Lee was upset at Brian for doing the solo album," Nick answered.  Howie looked at him, "Why?"  "Well Bri set everything up and didn't tell her about it until he told the rest of us.  I think it just surprised her," he said.  "Oh, I see," Howie said.

"So D, tell me what's going on with you?" Nick asked, not wanting to wait any longer.  "What do you mean?" Howie asked.  Nick looked at him, "I mean what's going on that you've gotta come stay all of a sudden?"  "Well, like I told Tara, I hadn't seen your new house, and ....." Howie started.  "Bull shit," Nick said, "D what's really going on?"  Howie looked away from Nick wishing there was some hole he could crawl into and hide.  "D, I'm waiting," Nick said.  "I'm not sure.  For the first few days I was home everything was good.  You know, did the club thing and all, but lately I'm just, I don't know.......looking for something," Howie replied still not meeting Nick's eyes.  "Looking for what?" Nick asked, truly concerned.  Howie finally met his eyes, "I wish I knew."

The wind was almost unbearable.  It was completely dark now, Tara could hardly see Brian right in front of her.  Something was pulling at him.  "Tara, don't let go of me!" Brian yelled.  She could see the utter terror in his eyes.  "Hang on Brian!" she yelled.  Tara was trying to hold on to Brian, and searching for something she could anchor to.  Something that would give her leverage against whatever was pulling at him.  Her grip on Brian's arms was starting to slip.  Brian looked at her, "I can't hold on!" he yelled.

Leighanne and Gary had read through several scenes when they came to one that called for Leighanne's character and Gary's to kiss.  Leighanne looked at Gary, "I don't remember this part being in the pre-script."  "Yeah, I forgot to tell you they did a little editing and rewriting before they finalized it.  I guess they added this part in," he said with a smile.  "Oh, OK.  Well lets skip this part," she said.  "Um, do you really think we should?" Gary asked, "I mean we are starting this in two days, and we need to be prepared."

Leighanne looked at him, "You're kidding right?"  "About what?  I'm serious, I don't want to show up unprepared, do you?" Gary replied.  "Gary, my husband is upstairs asleep.  If for some reason he wakes up and comes down here while we're ....... he'll freak," Leighanne said.  "Anne, it's in the script..see it says it right here, and they kiss'," Gary said pointing to the page.   "Yeah, and I'd like to see you explain that to him while he's beating you to a pulp and throwing you out the door," Leighanne said smiling.  Gary put his hands up, "OK, OK, we won't practice, but if we have to waste more time on this scene than we should, I'm gonna blame you for putting us over budget."  "Gee Gary, you really know how to lay the guilt trip don't you?" Leighanne said.  Gary smiled, "Anne, you should know me by now, I'm the king of the guilt trip."  Leighanne took a deep breath and thought for a moment.  "All right, but I'm only gonna do it once, so work out which side you're gonna put your head and all, cause there is no retake," she said.  Gary inched closer on the couch and took Leighanne's face in his hands, "OK, here goes," he said and leaned in for the kiss.

"Brian, you have to hang on!" Tara yelled at him.  But she was loosing the battle.  Brian was slowly slipping from her grasp.  "God, please help me!" she cried.  She only had him by his fingers now, he looked at her with more fear than she had ever seen in him before.  Then suddenly his fingers slipped from hers.  "NO!!" they both yelled.

Nick and Howie heard Tara screaming, and both bolted inside the house.  When they reached her she was sitting up in bed.  She couldn't catch her breath, and she was trembling uncontrollably.  "Tara, what's wrong?" Nick asked pulling her into his arms.  "I couldn't save him," she answered.  "Save who?" Howie asked.  Tara held on to Nick and began weeping.  Howie and Nick looked at each other worried and confused.

Leighanne didn't know how long she had been lost in the kiss, but Brian's scream tore her out of it.  She and Gary both raced upstairs.  Brian was sitting up in bed, shaking uncontrollably and having a hard time getting his breath.  "Bri, what happened? What's wrong?" Leighanne asked sitting next to him.  Brian reached out and embraced Leighanne, "Oh Lee, it was awful," he said as tears found there way down his face.  Gary motioned to Leighanne that he was leaving and slipped out the door.  "Brian, tell me what happened," Leighanne said.  "I can't," he said, holding on to her for dear life, then he broke down.
