| Chapter 41 It was getting late. Howie and Kira had left for the evening, saying they'd be back in the morning. Kevin and A.J. were playing cards now, A.J. was winning and it was pissing Kevin off. Nick and Leighanne hadn't come back yet. Brian could see that she was upset, but he didn't know what to do for her. He didn't mention everything he saw, and for good reason. No one else needed the sorted details. He hated knowing himself, every time he saw her that image flashed in his head. He wasn't angry, just more hurt than anything. Tara reached over and touched his arm, Brian looked at her. "I think we lost something," Tara said looking disappointed. "What?" Brian asked a little confused. "I've been trying to talk to you for half an hour now and you haven't heard me," she said. "Really? Let me try," he said. You know A.J.'s cheating don't you? he thought. "Did you hear that?" Brian asked. "No, what'd you say?" Tara asked. Brian leaned over and whispered in her ear what he had said, Tara looked over at Kevin and A.J. and burst out laughing. "OK, what's so funny?" Kevin asked, clearly annoyed that A.J. was winning. "Nothing," they both answered. Kevin glared at them for a minute then turned back to his game. "I can't believe we can't hear each other anymore. I was really getting used to it," Brian said. "Yeah, me too. I guess we don't need it anymore," Tara said. Brian looked at her with some fear in his eyes, "If we lost that, what else are we gonna lose?" Tara smiled at him, "Brian, we didn't always have that. We wont lose our bond, we can't, it's to strong." "I hope you're right," he said. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Howie and Kira walked through the door of Kira's apartment. They had gone by the drive thru on the way home and carried in the McDonalds bags and laid them on the counter. "God, I'm tired," Howie said. "Yeah, sitting at the hospital all day will do that to you," Kira replied. "Do you believe what Brian told us? I mean how insane is that?" Howie asked, still in disbelief. Kira put down the box of fries she had pulled out of the bag and looked at him, "Howie, it only makes since that if there are angels there are also demons." "Yeah, I know. I just can't imagine what it must've been like for him," Howie said grabbing his Big Mac and unwrapping it. "Yeah, but out of all of you, I'm glad it was Brian. He was the best one to deal with that kind of situation, and everything seems to have worked out," Kira said dumping her fries on a plate. "Well, not everything. We still don't know about his tests yet. And Nick and Leighanne have been acting kinda weird. I hope they aren't regretting what they did," Howie said. "I kinda get the feeling that they're working on some sort of surprise for them," Kira said popping a fri in her mouth. "Oh, what makes you say that?" Howie asked. "Well, just that when they come back, Nick always looks like he's been working, well they both do really. They always come back and crash. And I noticed Nick's jeans were dirty when they came back today," Kira said. "Hum, well I guess we'll find out sooner or later. I just want to finish eating, get a shower, and go to bed," Howie said. "Me too," Kira said with a smile. Howie stopped eating and looked up at her, "But not necessarily in that order?" Kira threw a fri at him and ran around the counter heading for the bedroom, Howie close on her heals. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The doctor walked into the room, "Guys can you step out for a minute?" he asked Kevin and A.J. They got up and left the room. "Something wrong?" Brian asked after they left. "No, not really. Just that you two are the most bizarre case I've ever had," the doctor replied. Brian and Tara both laughed. "Well, now you have that one freak story to tell the new med students," Tara said. "Yeah no doubt. Guys tell me something," the doctor asked, "How are you two so connected?" They both looked at each other, not knowing how to answer that without giving away something. "I don't know, we just are. Have been since the day we met," Brian said. Tara smiled at him. The doctor looked at them, knowing he wasn't gonna get a straight answer from either one of them. "Well, all I have to say is it's a good thing you two found each other, cause I think neither of you would be here if it wasn't for the other. We did nothing medically that can explain your rapid recovery, only to say that somehow God had a hand in it," the doctor said. "More than you know," Brian replied lacing his fingers with Tara's. "Doc, what about Brian's tests? Is there anything you can tell us?" Tara asked. "Well I want to run them one more time, so all I'm going to say is that they are quite different than when he came in," the doctor replied. "Different in a good way, or a bad way?" Brian asked. The doctor smiled at them, "I think you already know the answer to that. Get some rest. We'll start the tests early in the morning so I'll have the results by lunch." "Thanks," Tara said. The doctor gave them one last smile then left the room. Brian and Tara looked at each other, hope overflowing in both their eyes. "Bri, I just know that you're gonna be OK," Tara said. Brian smiled at her, brushing her hair back behind her ear, "As long as I have you, I'll be OK no matter what," he whispered. Then he pulled her into a kiss. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Nick and Leighanne came down the hall to join Kevin and A.J. "What's up?" Nick asked. "The doc is in with them," Kevin said. "Ohh, nothings wrong is it?" Nick asked again. "No I don't think so," A.J. said. Kevin took the opportunity, "Alright guys, where have you been going for the past three days, and what are you up to?" Nick and Leighanne looked at each other, then at Kevin, "Nothing," they both answered. "Come on Nicky, we know something's up. Are you two shaggin or what?" A.J. asked. "What?! No man, not even in the ball park," Nick said. Leighanne just looked at the floor and started laughing. All three guys looked at her. She looked at them, unable to stop, "You think me and Nick are.....? Oh my God, that's the funniest thing I've ever heard." "Hey, I'm not that bad," Nick said acting hurt. Now they were all laughing. When Leighanne finally calmed down she looked at Nick, "We might as well tell them, they're gonna find out anyway." "Yeah, guess you're right," Nick said. "We've been moving," Leighanne said. "Moving what?" Kevin asked. "Well, I moved out of the house, I'm having all my stuff shipped to the house in LA," Leighanne said. "And then we moved all Tara's stuff over to Bri's," Nick said. "Guys if you'd told us we would've helped you know," A.J. said. "Yeah, but we wanted to do it, kinda like that last big surprise we could give them," Nick said. "Are you sure that's where they want to be?" Kevin asked. "To be honest Kev, I don't think they care were they are, just as long as they're together," Leighanne said. "Well that's true," Kevin replied. The doctor came out of the room, and walked over. "They alright?" Kevin asked. The doctor smiled, "Yes they are. I told them to get some rest, and I think that you guys should too. They are both long out of danger, there's really no reason for you all to stay here." They all looked at each other. "Well I guess you're right about that," Nick said. "Ya'll go on home, I'll stay," Kevin said. "Kev, how long has it been since Kristin's even seen you?" A.J. asked. "Yeah Kev, if any of us needs to go home it's you," Leighanne said. Kevin thought for a minute, "Yeah, sleeping in my own bed would feel pretty good. OK, let's all go home and meet back up here in the morning." "Sounds like a good plan, I'll see you all in the morning," the doctor said, then made his way down the hall. "Well let's go in and tell them we're all leaving," Nick said leading the way. When he opened the door, Brian and Tara were kissing. Leighanne looked over at Nick, his eyes clouding up. "Ahem," A.J. said. "Um guys, we're all gonna go home and come back in the morning," Kevin said. "Oh OK," Brian said looking really embarrassed. Tara locked eyes with Nick, she could see he was hurt, and he was doing his best to hide it. "K, night," Leighanne said, taking Nick's hand and leading him out the door. Kevin and A.J. followed. Tara looked at Brian, "I think we have a problem." Chapter 42 |
