Chapter 2

Leighanne didn't say anything to Brian the whole drive home.  When they walked in the door she headed upstairs.  Brian knew she was angry, but he wasn't sure about what.  He stayed downstairs playing with Tyke and Litty for a few minutes before heading upstairs himself.

Brian walked into their bedroom.  Leighanne already had her pajamas on and was brushing her hair.  "Lee, are you mad at me?" Brian asked sitting on the bed.  Leighanne didn't turn around, "Yeah, I am."  "Why?" Brian asked.  Leighanne turned around and glared at him, "You really don't know do you?"  Brian shook his head.  "Bri, you didn't even discuss the solo album with me.  You just went and set everything up, and didn't even ask me how I felt about it!" Leighanne said almost yelling.  "Lee, this may be the only opportunity I have to do this.  You know that I've always wanted this, I just don't understand why you're so upset," Brian said.

Leighanne put her hair brush down and looked Brian in the eyes, "Honey, I was hoping to have this time with you, and now that's not gonna happen."  "Lee, we'll still have time to spend with each other," Brian started.  "Brian, I know better than that.  When do you have to be in the studio?" Leighanne asked sharply.  Brian looked down towards the floor, "Next week," he said softly.  "Next week?!?!" Leighanne yelled clenching her fists.  "Lee, I don't understand why you're so angry?  I'll be in the studio for three weeks and in post for another two, then my part is over.  We'll still have three months before I have to do any promotion at all, besides I thought you were gonna do that project with what's his name...... Jerry?" Brian said.

Leighanne let out a sigh, "His name is Gary, and I haven't decided yet.  But I guess I might as well, since you're gonna be gone anyway," she said sounding defeated.  Brian got up and walked over to her, "Lee, I won't be gone but only a few days, we're gonna use a studio here, so I'll be home every night.  I'll have to go to Orlando for a few days during post but then I'll be back."  Leighanne starred at him for a minute, "I just wish you would've said something to me before you went and did it."  Brian reached up and touched Leighanne's cheek, "I'm sorry, I didn't know you would be so upset.  I won't do it again, I promise."  Leighanne starred at him, Brian could still see the hurt and anger in her eyes.  Leighanne turned and crawled into bed and turned off the light leaving Brian standing alone in the dark.  He stood there looking at her for a minute before he left the room and went back downstairs.

Tara was alone in the wheat field.  She looked around, the sun was shining and the sky was blue.  "God why am I here?" she asked.  She stood there waiting for something, anything to happen.  Suddenly she could hear thunder in the distance, and a cloud of darkness was sweeping over the field.  Tara could feel the presence of something, it was dark, evil.  "What is it, what's happening?" she asked, "Why am I here after so long?"   No answer.  Tara was confused as to why after so long she was here, then in the clouds she could see something.  It was a face, Brian's face.  Now Tara was scared, "What's going to happen?" she asked.  She stood there watching the image of Brian's face, suddenly the cloud of darkness consumed it, and it was gone.

Tara sat straight up in bed.  She was out of breath and sweating.  She reached up and wiped her forehead, her hands were shaking.  Tara gently eased out of bed so as not to wake Nick up, and went downstairs.

Tara sat down on the couch and starred at the phone.  She wanted to call Brian and tell him about her dream, but it was really late, and he'd probably think she was a nut, after all this time.
It was just a bad dream, get over it, she thought.  Just then the phone rang.  Tara grabbed it, "Hello."  "Tara?  It's Brian, I didn't wake you up did I?" he asked.  "No, actually I was just thinking about calling you," Tara said.  "Really? Bout what?" Brian asked a little surprised.  "Tell me what you called for first," Tara said.  Silence.  "Brian, you still there?" Tara asked.  "Yeah, I really don't know why I called.  Me and Lee got into a fight when we got home," he said.  "What about?" Tara asked.  "About the album, she's really upset.  I've never seen her like this before, I thought she would be happy about it, but she's far from it," Brian said.  "Well I kinda picked up on it when you guys were here, I talked to her some before you left," Tara said.  "Really, what'd she say?" Brian asked.  "She was just disappointed that you were gonna be working and she wouldn't have much time to spend with you, at least that's what she told me," Tara said.  "But you think there's more to it?" Brian asked.  "Yeah, but I don't know what, I mean it's just a feeling I have," Tara answered.  "Well your feelings have gotten us through a lot of stuff," Brian said.  Tara laughed a little, "Yeah, but things are different now you know, I'm not that person anymore."

Brian laughed, "Well I wouldn't say that, you still have a lot of those qualities about you."  "Yeah, well, let's just say I'm not as connected as I used to be," Tara said.  "So, what were you gonna call about?" Brian asked.  Silence.  "Tara?"  "Brian, I had a dream," Tara finally answered.  "Oh really, what about?" Brian asked feeling a little apprehensive.  "Bri, I was back in the wheat field, I haven't had a dream like this since before I left," Tara said.  "What happened?" Brian asked.  "Well I was there and a darkness came over the field, I could feel something evil there.  Then I could see your face in the clouds and then the darkness covered it up," she said.  "What do you think it means?" Brian asked a little afraid.  "I don't really know, I just have this urge to tell you to be careful," Tara answered.  "OK, I will be," Brian said, "I better go and let you get back to sleep."  "OK, I'll talk to you tomorrow," Tara said.  "All right, night," Brian said.  "Night," Tara said as she hung up.

Tara sat on the couch starring at the TV for a few minutes.  She laid down and covered herself with an afghan and drifted off to sleep.

Brian sat on the couch thinking about Tara's dream.
What could it mean? he asked himself.  He laid down, Tyke jumped up and curled up next to him.  "You still love me don't you?" Brian said.  Tyke looked up at him, then closed his eyes.  Brian drifted off to sleep.
