Reading is perhaps one of my favorite things in life, and I don't have enough time to do as much of it as I'd like. This generally means that instead of re-reading something, I'll move on to something else. However, listed below are a few fics that I have found myself reading multiple times... the ones I simply can't get enough of have been given the dubious honor of gracing the Top Five Hall of Fame. I hope you enjoy them as much as I have!
Warning
Many (if not all) of the stories on this page have an NC-17 rating and are NOT appropriate for children under the age of 18. Although I know telling an underage person they're not allowed to read is the equivalent of waving a red flag in front of a bull, it is my duty as creator of this page to ask you to be responsible and respect the ratings, even if you think you're mature enough.
5.The Games We Play - Wintersong
4.Eleventh Hour - Rachel Anton
Rated R for intense action and language.
Authors' Summary: Mulder and Scully participate in an FBI wargame that raises interesting questions about what game is being played...and the identities of the players.
This fic -- Wow. That's about all I have to say about it. The action is a pure adrenaline rush, and hot *damn* it's nice to see Scully kicking some ass and taking some names. This fic is unique in that it's the only one in my Top Five to not have smut. Fear not 'shippers, it is MSR. But man oh man, what an awesome fic this is. ScullyFu rules!
Rated NC-17 for sex and language.
Author's Summary: Some feelings defy the confines of time.
While this story is categorized as a "pre-XF", I almost feel compelled to categorize it as an Alternate Universe. It plays around with one of my favorite concepts that time does not operate as a straight line, and that sometimes - just sometimes - future events happen before the present. (If that confused you, don't worry. It confuses almost everyone I tell it to.) Anyway, it's lovely, and I love the realistic treatment she gave to the topic of virginity.
Rated NC-17 for sex and language (I promise I'm not as depraved as these ratings make me sound! Okay, so maybe I am...)
Author's Summary: Mulder and Scully embark on a relationship neither is able to handle, and the question of what is or isn't worth breaking must be answered.
Oh, how I love this story! Let me count the ways! This is such believable characterization - it would be just like Moose and Squirrel to be truly this thick-headed about things! Not to mention this has got some of the hottest smut I believe I've ever read... not that you'd care about things like that... ;)
Rated (of course) NC-17 for sex and language
Author's Summary:"She showed me a world where the sky was purple, up was down, black was white, and you and I spent the last seven years without each other."
The summary was what first attracted me to this fic, quite honestly. (That, and I'm a sucker for Alternate Universe fics.) Also, Trixie is just One of Those Authors. Once I got into it, I realized there was no going back. The dialogue is laugh aloud funny, the smut melt-in-your-chair hot, and the characterization is off-the-charts accurate. (How d'ya like my display of adjective phrases there...) Don't let the length of the thing scare you off - no matter how long you think it is, when it's over, you'll wish there was more.
1. Aphrodisia - Kristel S. Oxley-Johns
Rated *strong* NC-17 for very graphic BDSM sex and language.
Author's Summary: Mulder and Scully explore trust and control issues
as they embark upon a D/s relationship.
Choosing a #1 favorite story was difficult for me, but this one had several factors on its side. Aside from excellent writing, characterization, and the like, this had extensive research into the potentially dangerous field of BDSM games. (bondage/discipline, Dominance/submission, sado-masochism.) I've seen a lot of fics that treated this area with an alarming deal of irresponsibility, and while I understand that it is "fiction," I don't think that kind of fiction does anybody any good. This fic opened my eyes and mind to a world I'd never thought I'd enjoy exploring, and I owe the author a great deal for expanding my horizons.
All The Children Are Insane - Mustang Sally
The first NC-17 fic I ever read...
 Wambli - Virtie
Virt is actually a very good friend of mine, and I promise I don't *just* love this story because she put me in it and married me off to my dream husband! It's a sequel to a series - the series itself is excellent, I might add - and it's a beautiful Action-Adventure story.
 The Clubhouse Turn - Virtie
Not to be redundant in my choices here, but there's something to be said for having a friend write a fic in response to one's own challenge!
 Never - Allison Kinney
This story always haunted me, and I say haunted because I loved it, but could never (no pun intended) remember the damned name. I'd always end up clicking the link thinking, "I don't think I've seen this one" only to be surprised and delighted to find that it was "That Fic!" that I'd been hunting for weeks. It's a goodie, that's for sure.
Jake's Luck - Sue Esty (Windsinger)
This thing won the 1996 Spooky Award for Best Crossover, and I have to say they could not have chosen better! If you'll notice, it's the *only* crossover fic in my entire archive, and that's generally because I don't like them. But what can I say? This one is awesome, and I've always been in love with Jake (from the Red Shoe Diaries).
 Cellphone - Marasmus
This little vignette is incredible. The first time I read it, it literally took my breath away. Do yourself a favor and click the link!
Antidote - Rachel Howard & Karen Rasch
I positively loved the level of drama present in this story. I'm all for torturing our dynamic duo within the bounds of reason, and this has just the right amount. Really hits the spot.
A Note From Meg to the Authors...
I promise I tried to contact every single author listed on this page. Some were impossible to find. (Namely, Karen Rasch and Rachel Howard, for whom I could not find an active email address to save my life.) Also, if, after a few days, I did not receive a negative answer to my request, the fic was automatically linked. If you find your work archived here and wish to have it removed or changed to an external link, I can be contacted at [email protected] and will comply with your wishes immediately. Thanks!
