Liam  Farley  of  'FoxCreek  FarmCollies'  was  born  at  Amy  Dorsch's  'Good  Shepherd  Farm'  on  June  6,  2000.  Liam  came  to  'FoxCreek  FarmCollies'  at  age  5  weeks  old  and  became  one  of  the  puppies  being  nursed  by  our  Felecia.

Liam passed on to 'Rainbow Bridge' on Easter, 2002.  This page is written in loving memory of Liam.

Liam  was  a  very  sweet-natured  dog.  One  of  the  two  favorite  names  we  had

for  Liam  was  'our  Little  Collie-Heart' .  His  other  endearing  name  was

'Marshmallow'.  In  the  picture  above,  Liam  is  keeping  his  'master's'  vacated

chair  warm  until  he  returns.  Liam  thought  it  his  special  duty  to  do  this

for  every  member  of  the  family. He would grin a comical grin at you when you came back to claim it from him and roll on his back for a tummy rub.

Liam  had  many  jobs  on  our  farm;  herder,  guardian,  and  hunter.  His

hunting  job  was  to  find  all  mice,  rats,  moles,  snakes,  etc.   and  kill   them.

Even when we  no  longer  had  the  larger  livestock  for  Liam  to herd  but  he  still  made himself  useful  by  being  the  first  to  exit  the  house  before  another  human  or  doggy  member  and  gently  herd  the  chickens  away.  (he  must  have felt that  the chickens  were  pests  that  needed  to  be  kept  from  bothering  us).

Liam  made   it  his  job  to  monitor  all  goings-on  both  inside  and outside;
daytime  and  night.  There  was  nothing  that  escaped  Liam's  notice.  He  also  had a  specific  type  of  bark  for  each  alert  he  gave  (i.e.  human visitor;  stray  dog on  property;  wildlife  predators;  wild  pheasants;  deer;  mail lady,  etc.)

Liam  felt  it  is  his  duty  to  be  the  first  to  the  door  to  inspect  and  greet  each
arriving  visitor  to  the  farm.

Liam  also  ensured  that  he  escorted  both  humans  and  dogs  when  they  ventured outside  the  house  to  protect  against  any  unforeseen  problems  which  could  arise outside.  One  felt  very  safe  with  Liam  along.

  When  Liam  was  not  working,  he  was  playing  with  his  many,  many  toys  from  his  toybox.  If you  wanted to  play  with  Liam,  the  rule  in  the  house  was  that  you  had  to  name  the  toy  and tell  Liam  to  get  it.  Liam  would  then  rummage  in his  toybox  until  he  found  that  specifically  named  toy  and  would  then  bring it  to  you  to  be  thrown  for  him  to  catch.

Another name we had for Liam was, 'Dust Buggy Buster'!  How did he get that name?  Liam felt it also his job to rid the house of any bugs......even the dust mites floated in a beam of sunshine from a window!  Very comical, That!

Talk about a smart dog!  Liam was that, and master game player to boot!  Jake and Chief both  loved Liam.  I think Jake felt Liam was very bright and reveled in trying to outsmart him....often to no avail....Liam was just more cunning and of quicker foot, and Jake would just grin at him in good humor when he was outsmarted by Liam.  Liam also outsmarted my husband, Jerry in the mornings.  Liam slept on the floor by the bed, when he awoke in the morning he would jump on the bed and pester the heck out of Jerry, making Jerry think he needed to go outside for relief.  On they'd head down the hall, only to have Liam draw up short, turn abruptly and fly back onto the bed, plop himself on Jerry's pillow and snuggle up to Mommy, grinning away in doggy fashion at Jerry in the doorway......what a funny little dog!
