Spring/Summer 2007

Dear family,

I could almost tell you to read the last issue, as our schedules don't change too much.  We have added some doctor's visits but that is normal.  Bill is now the Vice Mayor having been re-elected in January.  He had to campaign in December and won by a landslide.  So that means 4 more years.

We are both involved in several musical groups.  In addition to the Sanctuary Choir, Bill is a member of the Men's Chorus, Penney Men (a small group of eight) and an Ensemble, which we're both involved in.  The latter is a group of 12 mostly husband and wife except for two.  I'm involved in the Women's Chorus in addition to the Sanctuary choir (of which I am the librarian) and in Hand-bells.  So these organizations keep us pretty busy.

In addition we serve the noon dinner meal at one of our assisted living places on Friday each week.  Then it seems that Bill is a part of every committee you can think of.  I have trouble keeping all of his meetings in mind.  We have done some fun things such as going on a bus trip to the Cummer Museum in Jacksonville to see an Egyptian display of tombs and mummies, etc. from the British Museum.  We also enjoy attending the "Coffee" series of the Jacksonville Symphony several times during the year.

Well I think that is enough to bore you with for this time.  We are preparing and looking forward to our usual trip to see family and spend a few weeks in Iowa in our trailer.  We look forward to reading all about the rest of the family and want to again thank Autumn for putting this all together.

Love to all, Bill and Romayne

Fall/Winter 2006

Dear Ones,

Our summer began in the usual way with a visit first with Autumn and Samantha on our way North.  Then, a weekend with Sylvia where we were introduced to her new apartment in down town Charleston, WV, and next a few days with Judy, Melissa, Rob, and Anastasia in Horsham, PA.  Finally we made our way to Iowa where we spent a few weeks enjoying our trailer at its hilltop site and visiting with family and friends in the Des Moines area.  While there we enjoyed a visit to the new Science Center and a viewing of an Imax film about the Titanic.  We are thankful for stress free travel all the way.

In early August we returned home to Florida where we had a few weeks of relative quiet before getting involved in the Fall schedule of activities.  However, life at PRC does not leave one wondering what to do for very long and soon the usual activities got underway - choirs and a couple of small musical groups, Commemorative Programs, the JAX symphony, Bible study, committee meetings, etc.- the usual activities all very enjoyable.

The town of Penney Farms business has been unusually stressful this Fall because of the decisions relating to the wastewater project and a very controversial development plan presented by a major landowner in the area.  Of unusual note in our fall activities, was a day trip by Amtrak to Kissimmee, FL.  Also of outstanding interest was a tour through the Jacksonville Naval Air Base nearby.

We have enjoyed good health, though Romayne injured her arm in a fall while working at Beyer House, one of our assisted living units.  It has healed very well even if it has taken a long time in doing so.  Now if we can survive the special Christmas celebrations we may make it to the end of the year.

We wish a blessed celebration of our Lord’s birth and a wonderful new year to you all.

With love,

Romayne & Bill

Spring/Summer 2006

Dear Family,

We look forward to reading all of the events that have taken place in your lives since our last newsletter.  Our schedule seems to be as busy as ever with choir, men’s and women's choruses, bell choir, and a new group called "Penney Men" that has just developed in the past few months.  As some of you may remember, I was involved as chair of the music committee in hiring a new minister of music.  Finally this past February one of our new residents consented to be that person.  He has been a wonderful addition.  In addition to the groups mentioned above he has recruited 12 of us - mostly couples - to be in an ensemble.  We have sung at several meetings and we will be singing in church on June 11th.

We enjoyed a short visit from Syl in February.  She had been sent by the station to cover the Daytona "500".  She'll no doubt mention this in her article so won't elaborate further.  But we were happy that she could finally see where we lived, etc.

In March, we went with a group of 30 from here, on a bus trip to Washington, DC.  We saw a great deal in our short time there and also on the way home saw the famous Aquarium in Baltimore Inner Harbor - a fabulous place.

We have done quite a bit of typing this Spring.  I've done the usual "Writer's Booklet" which includes stories and poems by some of our people here.  But also this year the same group has compiled a cookbook and I was involved in typing up some recipes for that.  Bill, as chairman of the Commemorative committee, puts together the programs which means gathering the program information and also background material on the people being honored.  He also is producing every month the birthday invitations for the first Wednesday of the month.  That plus his work with the Town Council keeps him busy.

Things are slowing down here some and we are looking forward to making our usual trip to Iowa by way of Charlotte, NC, Charleston, VA and Horsham, PA.  It's been two years since we've been in Iowa so we are anxious to see how our trailer has fared in that time.  We of course will enjoy seeing Norma and the family there as well as our friends in the church we attended when we lived there.

I think that covers things from here.  Once again we thank Autumn and Kyle for the great job they do in producing this for all of us to enjoy.

Love, Romayne & Bill

Fall/Winter 2005

To our extended family,

The last few months have been a little unusual for both of us.  First of all, we didn't make our usual trip to Iowa for the summer.  The only trip we made was up to see Anastasia (and of course her parents and grandmother) the end of June.  She had changed and matured so much and we treasured our time there.  Now she'll soon be a year old which is hard to believe.

The other excitement ??? in our lives has been to join with several others in our family taking care of some physical problems.  Bill had cataract surgery on both eyes.  I had knee replacement surgery in my right knee in July and Bill had hernia surgery in September.  We took time in-between surgeries so one or the other could drive the patient to the hospital.  We are both doing well for which we thank the Lord.

We trust that the other members of the family who have had physical problems are all doing much better.  We've had a lot to pray for, haven't we?

We are back in full swing here - keeping busy with all of the activities and getting ready for the holiday season.  Thanks again to Autumn and Kyle for doing this for all of us to enjoy.

Love to all, Bill & Romayne

Spring/Summer 2005

Greetings to all!

Definitely the most exciting and important news is the arrival of our great-granddaughter, Anastasia Romayne.  As most of you know she arrived on Dec. 9th.  We made a short trip up to see her between Christmas and New Year's.  What a blessing.  We can't wait to see her again.

The other change in our family is that Bill was elected to be the Mayor of Penney Farms in February.  This has been a new experience.  A few more meetings and visits to Town Hall to confer with the Town Manager.  I was able to go with him to Tallahassee with another councilman and his wife for a two day conference.  JoAnn and I didn't have to attend the meetings so we spent the time getting lost trying to find the local malls.

Bill has also had cataract surgery on both eyes about a month apart so we're still doing drops.  He was so pleased after the first one to be able to see the back of the church from the choir loft.  The doctor says both are doing very well.  So we have made several trips to Mayo Clinic during the last few months for our physicals and preparation for his surgeries, etc.  They should be able to stay in business for a little while.

We seem to be able to keep busy and I guess that's good.  We look forward to catching up with all of you.  Thanks to Autumn and to Kyle for putting this together.

Love to all, Romayne & Bill

Fall/Winter 2004

Dear family,

Our greetings from Florida where we hope that the election news on Nov. 2nd doesn't turn out like last year. We made out usual trip to Iowa with stops in Charlotte to see Erwyn (Autumn and family were on a mission from church), Charleston to spend a few days with Syl and then to Horsham to visit a few days with Judy, Melissa and Rob. We were excited to hear from Melissa & Rob that we were going to be great-grandparents.

We spent about six weeks at our trailer as usual and enjoyed a very cool summer. It was wonderful to sit on our patio and watch the people coming and going and all of the activity in the pool. We arrived back here the middle of August just in time to greet our first hurricane. We prepared for "Charley" but thankfully it didn't hit here But "Frances" did on Sept. 5th and we were w/o power for six days. We are blessed to be here as the main buildings such as the dining room, etc. were in operation so we could get our meals and cool off in their A/C. "Jeanne" came on Sept. 26 and again we were w/o power for 3 days. We were better prepared for that one. The people south of us are still recovering so we are not complaining.

We're back to our busy schedule here. We look forward to hearing from all of you.

And again we thank Autumn for doing such a beautiful job of producing this each time.

Love to all, Romayne & Bill

Spring/Summer 2004

Greetings to all from Florida,

We seem to be keeping busy as usual. Keeps us young I guess!! In addition to our usual volunteer things that we do we keep busy with choirs (Sanctuary, Men's, Women's & Bells), etc. The Easter season was a busy one. Our Bell choir played for the Easter service with a "Peel" (chain ringing) outside on the church steps before the service and then a special anthem and accompanying the choir in introits, etc. and the hymns. Bill keeps busy with the Town Council and all of the extra meetings that includes.

Our new Commons building was dedicated on Feb. 27th and our bell choir played as the people took a tour through it afterwards. It's beautiful and has been used a lot already. Another couple and we decided that we would take some days off and go and see some of the sights near us. So in February we took a day trip to Silver Springs and in March we went to Marjorie Rawling's place in Cross Creek. Her most famous book is "The Yearling". The first weekend in June (Friday & Saturday) we're going to Orlando to see "The Holy Land Experience". We'll stay overnight Friday at Clermont where our long time friend, Lillian Davis, lives. We're looking forward to that. We'll be leaving here about the middle of June and making our usual stops on our way to our trailer in Iowa.

Hope this finds everyone doing well. We are eager to hear all of the news.

Love, Romayne & Bill
