SCIENCE OLYMPIAD TRYOUT EVENT WINNERS


Please note certain scores on trial events will not be held against oneself--participants will not be marked down for missed or low scores.


1) Test events: To evaluate scientific knowledge base.

A) Chem LAB: JOSH L., with a score of 27/30. NOTE: rumors ARE true that Josh did infact help write the test. Thus, an honorary placing must be given to 2nd place score, Mike C., with a 25/30.
B) Physics Lab:
2) Hands-on Events: To evaluate logical and engineering skills.
A) Mystery Architecture: team of Esther L., and Frank Z.
Josh L. is said to have played a minimal role in building the 75.5 cm tower.
B) Qualitative analysis:
3) Teamwork events: To evaluate cooperation and quick thinking.
A) Write-it Do-it: Too many perfect scores to count. Pradeep R. and Tim W. among the first to finish correctly.
B) Experimental Design (A group of 3 random partners)
C) Egg drop: ShanFal M. and Tim W. built a contraption which survived both the 5m drop onto grass AND the drop onto concrete. Sadly, their egg did NOT survive when Tim hurled their creation into the air as high as possible.
4) Subjective evaluation: An analytical overview based on subjective categories--results as of 10/12 for people best displaying these characteristics.
A) Teamworking ability: Tim W.
B) Attitude toward peers: Jon B.
C) Reaction to pressure & stress: Josh L.
D) Overall Mentality: Eleanor G.
