AREA LADS AIM
4 POP FAME
Meet the young pop hunks who have aready performed live before hundreds of thousands of fans - without a record deal!
New boyband Area 4 are determined to match the sucess of Irish chart-toppers like Boyzone and Westlife.
The foursome release their debut single "It's Your Song" on February 11th and are hoping it will lead to a record deal.
Area 4 features Dubliners Mark Cleary (17) from Walkinstown, Ian Colgan (21) from Dalkey, John Collins (20) from Drimnagh and Kildare youth Roly Smithers (20).
Since forming the band last year they have performed on the Beat On The Street in front of 100,000 fans and are currently starring in the smash-hit panto Puss in Boots at the Olympia, Dublin.
"The biggest thrill for us was performing on the Beat on the Street in front of huge crowds," admits John. The lads are convinced they have what it takes to make it big. "We have great commitment to what we are doing," says John. "We write our own stuff, play our own instruments and all have completely different influences which makes for an interesting mix."
"Roly is into rock, Ian is very much into Pop, Mark is more gospel and I'm into R'n'B"
Area 4 got together last year after auditions were held by their manager, Steve Martyn.
The four lads have been working full-time on the band ever since. Their new single "It's Your Song" is a reworking of an old Garth Brooks tune. We're looking for a record deal and hope the single will bring us to the attention of a lot of people," John explains.
