Recipes for Kids or the Kid at heart!

The following are recipes for things kids like to do!

Fruity Putty

3-ounce package of sugar free fruit flavored gelatin

2 cups flour

1 cup salt

4 Tablespoons cream of tartar

2 cups boiling water

2 Tablespoons cooking oil

Directions

Mix dry ingredients in a pan. Have an adult add the boiling water and cooking oil. Stir over medium-high heat until the mixture forms a ball. Use different flavors to make all different colors and smells.

Eggshell Chalk

4-5 egg shells

1 teaspoon flour

1 teaspoon very hot tap water

Food coloring (optional)

Directions

Wash and dry egg shells. Put into bowl and grind into a powder. A mortar and pestle works fine for this. Discard any large pieces. Place flour and hot water in another bowl and add 1 tablespoon eggshell powder and mix until a paste forms. Add food coloring if desired. Shape and press mixture firmly into the shape of a chalk stick. Roll up tightly in a strip of paper towel. Allow to dry approximately 3 days until hard. Remove paper towel and you've got chalk!!! Eggshell chalk is for sidewalks only!

Wacky Water colors

3 Tablespoons baking soda

3 Tablespoons cornstarch

3 Tablespoons white vinegar

1 1/2 teaspoons light corn syrup

Food coloring

Directions

Mix vinegar, baking soda, cornstarch, and corn syrup together in a small bowl. Divide the mixture into several small plastic tubs or jar lids. Add 6-8 drops of food coloring to each tub or lid and mix. Use Wacky Water colors as they are, or allow them to dry into hard cakes of paint. When painting with the dry paint cakes be sure to wet your brush before painting.

The above is from The Ultimate Book of Kid Concoctions shared by a friend.

Chocolate Scented Play Dough

1 1/4 cups of flour

1/2 cup cocoa powder

1/2-cup salt

1/2 Tablespoon cream of tartar

1 1/2 Tablespoons cooking oil

1 cup boiling water

Directions

Mix flour, cocoa powder, salt, and cream of tartar, cooking oil,and boiling water. Stir quickly, mix well. Cook over low heat until dough forms a ball. When cool, mix with your hands. Store in airtight container. It smells good enough to eat but tastes awful so kids won't eat!

Sidewalk Chalk

1 cup Plaster of Paris

9 tablespoons of water

Toliet paper roll (empty)

Powdered Tempra paint (optional)

Directions

Mix water and plaster in a small bowl until well blended. Seal one end of the toilet paper tube with duct tape. Spoon mixture into tube. Let dry for approximately 2 hours. Peel toilet paper roll off chalk. Makes 1 jumbo roll of white chalk. To make different colored chalks simply add 3 Tablespoons of powdered tempera paint in the color of your choice. I have never tried liquid food coloring but I'm sure it would work if you do not have access to powdered paint. I have also used old molds to make fun shaped pieces and given them out at birthday parties. Old ice cube trays and even paper cups could be used. I like to use the toilet paper rolls because of the size. They last a long time!!

No-Bake Craft Clay

1-cup cornstarch

1 1/4 cups cold water

2 cups baking soda

Food coloring (optional)

Directions

Mix all ingredients in saucepan and stir over medium heat for about 4 minutes. Mixture should be the consistency of mashed potatoes. Add food coloring if desired, a few drops at a time. Remove from heat, turn on a plate and cover with a damp cloth. Let cool. When cool, knead like dough. At this point, the clay may be stored in an airtight container. Squeeze, roll, mold, or shape however you choose. This is good for rolling out and cutting with cookie cutters. Using a pencil or medium-sized nail, punch a hole in the top of any ornaments you make before allowing to air-dry. When completely dried, paint as desired.

Face/Tattoo Paint

1 Tablespoon of cold cream

2 Tablespoons of cornstarch

1 Tablespoon of water

Directions

Mix all ingredients together. Stir completely. Using a paintbrush or clean rubber stamp, create your own face paint and tattoos. Washes off with soap and water.

Finger Paint

1/2 cup cornstarch

3/4 cup cold water

1 envelope unflavored gelatin (example Knox)

1/4 cup cold water

2 cups boiling water

small jars with lids if you want to store the paint

food coloring or poster paints

plain white paper

Directions

Mix the cornstarch with 3/4 cup cold water to a smooth paste in saucepan. Soak gelatin in 1/4 cup cold water. Set aside until ready to use. Slowly pour boiling water into the cornstarch mixture, stirring constantly. Cook over medium heat until mixture boils and turns clear. Remove from heat. Stir in gelatin. cool adn divide into jars for various colors. Add your food coloring or poster paints. Stir well until blended. This finger paint can be used on wet or dry paper. If you wet the paper with a spray bottle first, you get a really pretty high-gloss finish. Paint will keep in refrigerator for a week.
