Bath Salt Ideas

The following are recipes for bath salts. Not only do these make great gifts for friends, family and co-workers they make great gifts for you!!

Bath Salt 1

2 cups of Epsom salts

1 Tablespoons Glycerin (can be found at drug stores or Wal-Mart.)

Food Coloring

Fragrance oil or essential oil

Directions

Take a mixing bowl, put in Epsom salts, Glycerin Drop into mixture food coloring to get the color that you want. Gauge this by mixing with your food mixer and mix until you get a nice even color that is the shade you want. When this mixture is the color that you want, add a few drops of fragrance. This can be found at any craft store or Wal-Mart, continue mixing until all of the lumps are out, the mixture is a nice smooth even color, and you have it. You will need to either add or subtract the fragrance and the color to suit your own taste.

Bath Salt 2

One-pound baking soda

1 tablespoon dried lavender or rose petals

8 drops lavender essential oil

8 drops geranium essential oil

Ceramic or glass bowl

Wooden spoon

Large sterilized glass jar with a tight fitting lid.

Directions

Place the baking soda and dried petals in the bowl, all the essential oils, and mix thoroughly with the wooden spoon to combine. Pour the salts into the jar and keep in a cool dark place, handy to the bath. Makes enough for about 5 baths using 2 handfuls to the bath.

Bath Salt 3

1-cup salt

1-cup Epsom salt

1-cup baking soda

Directions

Add a little of the mixture to your tub for a revitalizing bath. For bubbles, just add 1 cup of shampoo. For a nice scent, add a few drops of fragrance oil.

Earth Bath Salts

1/2 cup Epsom salts

1-cup baking soda

1/2-cup rock salt

1/2 tsp vitamin E

2 tsp light oil (almond, sunflower...)

20 drops Patchouli essential oil

15 drops Cypress essential oil

5 drops Vetivert essential oil

Green Food coloring

Directions

Mix all salts & baking soda together. Then combine oil, essential oils, vitamin E & a few drops of coloring in a separate bowl. Add liquid to salts and mix thoroughly. You can add more green food-coloring if desired, but I find it nicer when it's a very light green as it does not look as artificial. To use: Add a few heaping tablespoons to bath.

Bath Jelly

Packet unflavored gelatin

3/4 cup water

1/2 cup liquid soap or bubble bath

Fragrance oils

Food coloring (optional)

Plastic jar with lid (e.g. peanut butter jar)(I use glass jelly jars)

Small plastic bath toy

Mixing bowl

Assorted items to make label

Empty gelatin into mixing bowl. Set aside Warm water until it begins to boil. Carefully pour hot water into mixing bowl and gently mix with gelatin. Allow gelatin to completely dissolve. Be patient as this might take a few minutes. S-l-o-w-l-y and gently stir the liquid soap into the gelatin mixture. Add a drop or two of food coloring and 5-8 drops of oils.(Mix gently or the mixture will turn foamy) Pour your potion into a clear, clean container. Place the small toy inside jar as a treat. Refrigerate the Bubble Jelly until set (about 4 hours). As the jelly sets come up with a name for your creation. Then using scraps of stiff paper and ribbon, make a fun label for the jar. Attach label to bath jelly jar by punching a hole in the corner of the label. Thread ribbon, cut long enough to go around the jar, through the hole on the label. To use ,scoop a small amount of jelly into your hand and hold under warm running water

Thanks ZooNana for this recipe!

BATH SACHET

1 cup oatmeal (not instant)

1/2 cup rosemary leaves (or substitute lavender, thyme, lemon verbena...or your favorite herb)

1/4 cup rose petals (optional)

Directions

Mix the ingredients together and, for each sachet, place a few tablespoons in the center of a six-inch square of lace, cheesecloth or muslin. Can use the muslin tea bags that better kitchen stores carry, or make your own using a firmly woven muslin/cheesecloth fabric. If you're using a square of fabric, bring the four corners together and tie in the middle with a washable ribbon, making sure that the mixture is secure in your bath. Tie the bag to hang sachet mixture in a honey pot in the bathroom and refill sachet as necessary. Each bag can be used several times before it needs refilling. Oatmeal is very good for the skin but by itself is not particularly attractive, which is why you should add rose petals. The rose petals complement the oatmeal and add a little more fragrance to the mix.

For a humorous present for friends with a hot tub, sew a large tea bag from cheesecloth or muslin, fill it with a mixture of herbs and oatmeal (keeping the same proportions as in the recipe) and staple the bag to a string. Write the message "tea for two" on a piece of paper and attach it to the other end of the string. The "tea" bag can be used several times.

EPSOM BATH SALTS

2 cups Epsom salts

1/2 teaspoon food coloring if you want it

1/2 to 1 (depending upon your preference) teaspoon fragrance oil

1/2 cup dried rose petals crumbled to near powder

Directions

Mix all ingredients. Lovely bath salts.

HERBAL BATH SALTS

large pan to mix salts in

Epsom Salts

Sea Salt

zip-type bags to mix the salts and oils in

Essential oil (not flavoring oils, but "real" essential oil)

Potpourri herbs of choice

Food coloring (optional)

Glycerin (optional)

Pretty bottles (optional)

Ribbon to decorate bottles (optional)

Directions

Using approximately 2-to-1 proportions Epsom Salt and sea salt, mix in a big pan. This is your bath salt "base." Measure about 1 cup of the salt mixture into each zip bag. Place about 4 drops of essential oil into the salt mixture in each bag. Zip the bag closed and mix the salt and oil.

Tear potpourri herbs into tiny pieces and add to the bags (We used lemon verbena, rose petals, lavender. I don't know why we tore them except that they did look nicer all mixed with the salts. We didn't tear the lavender; because it's already tiny. Larger pieces could clog up your bath drain, too.) Zip the bag closed and mix until you are happy with the proportions.

Keep the salt mixture in the zip bag and mix it around once a day for 2 weeks. Then, it could be poured into decorated bottles!
