ABOUT THE FOUND THEATRE
Mission and History
        The Found Theatre was established in Long Beach in 1974 to provide the community with quality, low-cost, intimate, alternative theatre, and to provide actors, directors, and technicians with a home where they could refine their craft, experiment, learn from each other, and grow as artists.  The company which evolved now includes people from a broad range of backgrounds, who share a desire to bring a social conscience, a sense of humor, and a high standard of professional quality to their work at the Found.  The Theatre averages four productions per year.  These are:
  • original works written and developed by the company (which account for the majority of the Found's work);
  • experimental productions of classics, including adaptations from prose works.
  •    While production expenses are kept low, actors receive visually rich technical support for their work; music is used extensively, and video and projections are frequently incorporated to give added dimensions to the live performances.  The Found has developed a reputation for having an unswerving tradition of exceptional, cutting edge theatre on an intimate scale.

    The Primary Goals of The Found Theatre are:

  • to produce work with a social conscience, an uncompromising level of artistic quality, and an irrepressible sense of humor;
  • to focus on the growth of its artists, guaranteeing actors and technicians the opportunity to experiment, grow as craftsmen, and work in a demanding and supportive atmosphere;
  • to keep the price of admission low, making theatre available and attractive to audiences from every income level.
