Mission and History
The Found Theatre was established in Long Beach in 1974 to provide the community with quality, low-cost, intimate, alternative theatre, and to provide actors, directors, and technicians with a home where they could refine their craft, experiment, learn from each other, and grow as artists. The company which evolved now includes people from a broad range of backgrounds, who share a desire to bring a social conscience, a sense of humor, and a high standard of professional quality to their work at the Found. The Theatre averages four productions per year. These are:While production expenses are kept low, actors receive visually rich technical support for their work; music is used extensively, and video and projections are frequently incorporated to give added dimensions to the live performances. The Found has developed a reputation for having an unswerving tradition of exceptional, cutting edge theatre on an intimate scale.original works written and developed by the company (which account for the majority of the Found's work); experimental productions of classics, including adaptations from prose works.
