The story follows a young warrior named Cloud.  After being a member of Soldier (a elite group of soldier who are under the control of Shinra Inc), Cloud joins the rebel group known as Avalanche.  Cloud’s 1^st mission is to blow up one of eight Mako Reactor’s in the city of Midgar.  Along with Barrett, Avalanche’s Leader and Founder, the raid is successful.
