| What is enlightenment? Through the ages it has meant different things to different people, and it means something different to each person reading these words now. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| I majored in philosophy with a concentration in Asian philosophy and ethics while in college and am pursuing my PhD in philosophy. I have studied the art for over 30 years. I fell in love with philosophy when, as a child, I picked up a copy of The Apology by Plato and learned of Socrates' plight. I was so inspired that one man could stand before an entire city and stand up for what he believed in. He died for what he believed to be right. At the age of 11 I was hooked. I studied various philosophers over the years, Rawls, McIntyre, Kant, Aristotle, they were inspiring and moving and thought-provoking, but none could match the beauty and simplicity of the Asian philosophers. The first time I read the words of Lao Tzu I felt as if I had found a home. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
