Merry Christmas and Happy New Year from Warren and Kaye
Foster and family. Warren is nearing the end of his 3 year committment at L.A.
Air Route Traffic Control Center. He had planned to retire at the end of
January, but might wait until the end of May, or go some time in between. It
will be the end of May at the latest, and when the kids get out of school in
June, we will move back to our home in Alaska.
We've had a great year. There was some sad news, as Kaye's mother passed
away in January. All of our (Warren and Kayes children) family was there for
the funeral, in Salt Lake. We appreciated seeing many of Warren's brothers and
sisters at the viewing and funeral.
In June Warren went to Florida for another week of management training. At
the end of June Warren and Marty, with Marty's varsity scout group, for a week,
rode bicyles for 280 miles from Santa Barbara, down the coast to the Mexican
border. Kaye drove a SUV towing a supplies and gear trailor that stopped at
each campsite, so we didn't have to carry our camp on our backs while we rode
the bikes. April rode with Kaye, and they camped with us each night. It was a
lot of fun, and we became quite familiar with the coast of southeren
California. And we went in a different beach every day!
In July we enjoyed seeing much of the family at the property, for the 4th
of July. In late July we went to Idaho for Devan's graduation from BYUI. And
in November Kaye and I again got to see many of you for Dana's Sealing. We are
hoping to make it back again for the family Christmas party on December 22.
In church, Kaye is working with the Young Women again, helping with the
Beehives. Warren was over the Varsiy Scouts for most of the year, but was
recently called to be Ward Mission Leader.
Here's some brief highlights for our children this year. Sarah and Levi wrote
their own, and the others I wrote for them.
Here is Sarah's report for the year:
Todd and I attended our 10 year high school reunions this summer, flying to
Alaska for mine. It was strange being up there without my family there to
visit, but good to be back in the area I grew up in.
Todd graduated with his bachelor's degree from Alameda University in August.
He's now applying to George Wythe University to earn his masters in Liberal Arts
and Constitutional Law. His family hospice is doing well. He recently hired
someone to fill his financial position's duties so he can use most of his time
growing the company to outer surrounding areas. He is now doing
interviewing/hiring, training, and looking for office buildings. Which is all a
lot more exciting to him than crunching numbers in an office all day. Reading
is a big passion of his. He recently took a speed reading course and is FLYING
through books now.
I'm pregnant with our third, a girl, due March 28th. We started our food
storage this year and I've been getting better at making home made bread and
canning. I've also spent a good deal of time drafting up a house plan to
build. I really enjoy drafting. But we'll see if we can ever snag land to
build it on in this crazy market.
I went on a girls reunion trip to Seaside, OR in October. I spent 4 days with 3
of my close childhood friends who I hadn't seen in a lot of years. It was
awesome to be able to visit with them and have the getway for a few days.
Brielle is 4 and in pre-school. She started reading early this spring at age
3! We go through pack after pack of printer paper due to her passion for
drawing pictures and writing the words she can spell!
Ashton will be 2 in Jan. He finally stopped calling Todd "mommy" a month ago,
he's finally "Daddy" now. And all at once he's talking a bunch. He is a
fearless climber and no hiding spot, no matter how high, is out of his reach.
We wish you all well and a happy year to come!
The Stice Family
Scott (age 27) spent most of the winter and early spring preparing for a
gold dredging expedition to Nome. He spent all Summer and most of the Fall
there, off shore dredging with an 8 inch diameter hose, diving from a floating
dredge. He won't say how much gold they found, but the investment in equipment,
transportation, and operations, I think was around 85,000, and I think they got
close to the break even point. Not bad for a first year operation, and he hopes
to make a profit next year, now that most of the equipment is already in place.
He brought back a really cool 5th of an ounce nugget for a keep sake. In late
October he left Nome and went to Idaho, and in November he came to our home in
California. He is real close to having a winter job playing his guitar on a
Carnival Cruise ship. I don't want to jinx him by saying he's got it, but it's
looking pretty good.
Devan (25) graduated from BYUI in July, with a Bachelors in excercise and
sports physiology. He then moved to Salt Lake, where he is sharing a rental
home with 4 other room mates. He is working for Usana Health Sciences as a
personal trainer, and hopes to enroll at the U of U's doctorate program in
physical therapy, next Fall. He went to the 4th of July celebration with us at
the property, and came to our home in Ca. for Thanksgiving.
Levi (22) lives in West Hollywood. He didn't get up to visit us much this
year, but we get down there once in a while, on our way to the beach or
something, so we still get to see him quite a lot. He enjoys riding his bike
around LA and is committed to reducing his carbon footprint. He wants to take
up surfing. He has discovered his new favorite camping spot in Big Sur and has
spent allot of days off up there. He has spent allot of time in
San Francisco and NYC this year with friends and also for events for the
election. He has been working hard for the Obama campaign, and has been
organizing the No on prop. 8 protests in California and also Salt Lake City. He
works with a clothing designer in Beverly Hills and is going to be working
working with a political strategist firm in 2009.
Rachele (19) is a sophmore at Treasure Vally Community College, in Ontario,
Oregon. She has her own apartment there. She only has to drive a couple of
miles to cross the snake river, and visit Sarah and Todd in Fruitland, Idaho.
She mostly chases or gets chased by, boys, but she is majoring in elementary
education. In July she flew to Idaho Falls and stayed with us at a hotel there,
and attended Devan's college graduation with us. Instead of driving back down
I-15 to go home, we drove west to Boise, visited Sarah and Todd for a day, and
took Rachele home, then drove down to California from there.
Marty got ordained a Teacher when he turned 14 in May. He is in 9th grade
at Quartz Hill High School. One of the reasons we are staying a little longer
than we originally planned was so that he could see what it's like to go to a
big high school of 4000 students with lots of races and lots of diversity,
before we move back to Wasilla, where he will attend a shool of about 1200
students. One opportunity he has at Quartz Hill that he won't get in Wasilla,
is to be a part of a marching band, where he plays the symbols. He looks
awesome all decked out in his band uniform, and they play at every home football
game. In September he recieved his Life badge in Boy Scouts.
April turned 8 on gound hogs day, and was baptized on her birthday. John,
who's birthday is also on Feb. 2, and Adrienne Potter were there. She had lots
of fun beach camping with a whole bunch of Varsity Scouts for a week, and riding
in the truck with her mom and goofing off while the boys all had to pedal there
bikes mile after mile. She is in third grade now, and is still really cute!
I will try and get some pictures of you on here later. For those of you on
Facebook, Sarah, Scott, Devan, Levi, and Rachele have lots of pictures up on
their sites. Kaye and I have a few up on ours.
We hope you all have a great year in 2009!
love, Warren and Kaye and family

JOHN AND ADRIENNE POTTER: ([email protected]) * Potterphotos Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
We’ve had a good year, full of happiness and obstacles that we overcame. John’s
evil bosses were fired and he is temporarily filling in for one of them, plus
handling his old job. This means he commutes to Temecula for half of the week
and to El Segundo for the other half, but since we live half-way between these
cities it’s working out fine. He sold his Escalade and bought a Prius to reduce
his gas costs, and enjoys drafting behind Semi-trucks to get even better
mileage. He gets 50-64 miles per gallon.
Adrienne is still teaching piano, guitar, and art classes to kids, as well as playing piano for primary, guitar for nursery, and organ for church services. Her Kids In Danger committee is still fighting child porn, and her Kidsread.net website has a new section with science experiments you can do with things around the house.
Grace and Jeremy are in Rexburg, Idaho, where Grace just graduated from BYU-I in Music Education K-12 with an emphasis in band. Jeremy has 1-1/2 years to go with an Exercise Physiology major. They were EFY counselors together this past summer and had a surprisingly good time. There are a lot of good kids in Utah. Grace also had a chance to volunteer with the local high school band and go with them to the Utah State Marching Band Championship in St. Goerge. Her student teaching went very well (she still wants to teach) and will be long-term substitute teaching for a friend in Blackfoot, ID for the month of February. Jeremy is a TA for the archery classes on campus and has been working very hard. He maintains a 3.9 GPA and got straight A's this past semester. Grace is very proud of him. As for grandchildren... well, we're trying :)
Charity is attending Chapman University (with mixed feelings) as a Bassoon Performance major, and plays bassoon in the Orange County Symphony as well as the Chapman Wind Ensemble and Symphony. She found an excellent boyfriend and has ostracized herself from all other humans. This year she has also discovered she enjoys practicing dark magic. AVADA KEDAVRA! Love, The Potters

GOGI AND TONEY VAN DUREN ([email protected]) Photos
Merry Christmas to Everyone...We've generally tried to be the very last
entrant to Fosterity in the past so are trying to do a little better this time.
We're finally getting our heads together again around here and deeply appreciate
all the prayers, cards, and love sent our way. I'm sorry for being such a
rotten thank-you note writer, especially when we are so grateful for all of you
and for what you did to help us get through this rather amazing year! We miss
Katie dreadfully, but know that she is where she belongs right now. We miss
Nana too much, too, but are glad they are together. Toney's Dad is back in his
home and doing moderately well, but we wish he'd come back down with us. I've
fully healed from the surgery and am enjoying teaching strings in southern
Monterey County again and playing percussion with the Community Band. Toney has
gotten over his pneumonia finally and is playing his clarinet again. He
recently spent nine days on tour with the S.L.O. Wind Orchestra in Korea. They
had an incredible time. Our two wee grandkids, Jakob (4) and Lindsey (19 mos)
have brought so much delight and joy into our lives that we can't get enough of
them. We're now excitedly anticipating Lara's and Jamey's baby due to arrive in
early June. We're so very, very sorry to tell you that Nick and Shannon lost
their baby due to a tubal pregnancy that ruptured and put Shannon in rather dire
straits. She is still healing from her surgery. Please think of them in your
prayers with hopes that they will yet be able to have children. Shannon is well
enough now for them to do the Eukanuba Nat'l Dog competition in L.A. next
weekend and we're anxious to see them. Meanwhile they're comfortable and happy
in Parker (Colorado) where they're raising, training, and showing nine beautiful
granddoggies (all English Mastiffs!). Drew and Robin love living in
San Diego, but we do miss
having them so close by...they really spoiled us. Drew enjoys his new job in
computer security systems safeguards, and Robin likes taking the kids to the Zoo
every week thanks to a family membership her mom gave them. Jakob and Lindsey
get very excited about the animals. Lara and Jamey miss all the family in Utah
but have fallen in love with Wanatchee (Washington), as have Clyde and Bella
(two more loving grandoggies, Golden Retrievers). They only live a mile or so
from the Columbia River and
spend lots of time walking and playing with the dogs there. Lara plays with the
Wanatchee Symphony and helps coach kids in the youth symphony. Jamey likes his
job doing some kind of chemical engineering research. They've made lovely new
friendships in their neighborhood. As for Toney, besides making music he has a
passion for doing wood work. He and Robin's dad, Bob, just finished making 18
cherry wood dining room chairs...some for each of us...that are finely crafted
and genuinely beautiful. They're now making plans for building something
else...don't know what yet. Meanwhile I keep busy teaching a few piano lessons
here and there, but especially with gardening and planting trees. We've planted
over 150, though the deer and gophers have comandeered more than their share.
Toney built me a fun little greenhouse, 6' by 6', which has opened up a whole
new dimension of gardening (that I'm still figuring out). We are also still
somewhat pet nutty around here with Katie's animals who have all become our dear
old friends...Pepe the goat (who likes playing ball), Patty the horse (who is
sweet when she's not being snooty), the four ducks (who rain white feathers all
over the grass but eat the snails and earwigs...if only they would eat
gophers...), the 4 Java hens (who give us darling useless little eggs--it takes
3 to equal 1--and fly around annoying the horse and goat), Sweet Pea the
mini-rabbit (who is a lonely little lover and needs a pet child), and Phantom
the kitty cat (who has
finally stopped searching for Katie [they used to sleep together every night]
and has at last become bosom buddies with our old kitty Scherzo) and dogs, Ike
and Molly. We should probably pass on some of this plethora of pets but haven't
had the heart to do it yet.
Meanwhile, if you're headed this way, we have two empty bedrooms now which
would be graced by your presence. We'd love to have you any time. Merry
Christmas, Happy New Year, and lots of love to each of you. Toney & Gogi &

THE KIDS:
JENNETTE and COLIN BOOTH: [email protected] * Photos 07 * Photos06 * Photos05:
Dear friends and family,
I started the year off as a single mom of four. I now have a deep respect for and strong desire to assist anyone who’s raising kids alone, for whatever reason. Fortunately, Colin and I were only separated by hours of homework, school, and work, and with much rejoicing “got back together” in May when he graduated with his Master of Business Administration!!! My personal mantra, repeated every time things felt overwhelming, has been ‘I can do hard things!’ Shout it to yourself, ‘I CAN DO HARD THINGS!!! It’s very empowering! More and more I have felt witness to the fact that with the Lord’s help, we can do all things. Since graduation, we have had a rich, full summer of campouts, community activities and fun family adventures—just the way I like it--and significantly easier with two adults!!
Colin has also spent most of this year working to open an office for his company USANA in the Philippines, which he has really enjoyed. He was reassigned as International Business Development Manager and will be abroad researching the market in Brazil by the time this letter is sent. He also currently serves in the Elders Quorum Presidency. I know most wives feel this way about their hubbies, but I have to say it, he’s my own Mr. Incredible, good looks and all.
I’ve been teaching Relief Society, helping with Achievement Day Girls here and there, and have cut back to only a few music students. With the generous support of my mother-in-law, I’ve been able to volunteer regularly in Julia and Caleb’s preschool/kindergarten classes. I think this is a blast and my kids are young enough to still be happy to see me, rather than embarrassed! I’ve also been actively trying to expand my domestic repertoire by cooking more from scratch, utilizing my food storage and garden better, and I recently made my first soufflé—nope, it didn’t sink!
Julia, 5, enjoys Kindergarten and all the new friends it’s introduced. She loves to draw, color, make-up songs, spend time with all of her extended family members, and is becoming an avid reader. Dance lessons have begun to influence all of her daily movements, and she can be motivated to practice the piano with regular reminders that Miley Cyrus has to practice everyday too. She’s very thoughtful, helpful, sweetly sentimental, and has a sparkling, enthusiastic personality. What did we do before we had our Julia!?!?
Caleb, 4, loves preschool and has charmed his teachers. Like Curious George, he’s very sweet, wide-eyed, and loveable and is always getting into trouble. He’s good at drawing, and singing, and prone to picking up on, asking about, and implementing big, unusual vocabulary words. He has the focus to see any self-sought endeavor to its completion, but is very easily distracted from any mommy-imposed endeavor. He’s full of energy, very tender-hearted, and the best sleeper in the house. What did we do before we had our Caleb!?!?
Medley, 2, is our spunky entertainer. She dances in the living room (using her baby brother as a chagrined prop—not a partner, a prop), sings constantly, pushes all boundaries, and cracks jokes at the dinner table that get everyone laughing. She’s dangerously good at disguising naughtiness as cuteness. Hopefully, as she grows up, we can teach her to use her powers for good, and not just for free dinner dates and gifts from unsuspecting boys. What did we do before we had our Medley!?!?!
Brigham, 14 months, is a beautiful, blubbable, teddy bear of a boy. He’s perpetually smiling and giggling, and loves bear hugs and rough housing with his ‘big’ sister and brother. Though still learning to walk, he prefers climbing and repeatedly finds himself balanced at precarious altitudes. His favorite word is “Mmmm” which he says with zeal at the sight of anything edible. He loves people, sleeps well, and is so good-natured and sweet. What did we do before we had our Briggles!?!?!
Our family is also excited to welcome the next person we just can’t live without…we’re expecting number five, a baby girl, in March. We can’t wait to meet her and begin wondering what we ever did without her! Our cup runneth over and we wish the same for all of our friends and loved ones as we celebrate the advent of our true friend and Savior this holiday season. Merry Christmas!!!

This is shaping up to be my last semester there, then I'll transfer somewhere else for another two years. I live at home. My siblings are still around and my family is more or less happy.

Well, as a matter of fact I did my
share to contribute to global warming, but it obviousy wasn't enough--the
ruminants have got me beat. But I can't think of a lot I accomplished this
year. We took a trip to Cancun for a vacation--that's about all that stands
out, but it was so long ago it seems like last year. And we went to San Diego
before that, just for a weekend. Maybe we'll go to Houston next week. Merry
Christmas! --Butch and Miriam
