When and owner needs is unable
to care for their animal they have two options. Place the animal in a shelter
and give up the animal forever or try to find someone to watch the animal until
they can care for it themselves. There is one other option and that relates to
people in hospice and that is discussed later. If the owner wants to keep the
animal they should try to place the animal with family or friends and as a last
resort look place their pet in foster care. The Foster Pet Project is not a
kennel or pet sitting service it is a ‘process’ and an ‘online dating service’
trying to match people willing to help strangers in a difficult situation with
their pets.
There are tools on this site and
available from other sites (just follow the links) that help owners ensure the
people they are leaving their pets with are ‘good’ foster parents. There are
also tools that help foster parents know what they are getting into before they
agree to watch a pet. There are sample agreements on line for you to download
and check lists to make sure the foster parent and owners have thought about
and discussed many what-ifs.
