Community Development

A community has several definitions. There is the community in which the pet owner lives. There is also the Internet Community. This program depends on the support of both communities and attempts to develop an awareness of the needs through various means and provide several communications channels via the Internet.

Goal

Improve communication between Owners and Foster Parents so that pets can stay with their owners.

Groups

There is a FOSTER_PET Group in support of this website that can be accessed at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/foster_pet/ . The purpose of a Group is to foster communications. The communications channels this FOSTER_PET seeks to support are discussions between Owners, Foster Parents, Associates, and `concerned citizens'.

Posts

All Members are encouraged to post on any topic related to their concerns about the process or to offer solutions to problems.

Owners (Parents) looking for a Foster Parent to care for your pet please start your post with the word OWNER followed by the species (dog, cat, etc.,) and your city and state. [Example: OWNER - Dog - City, State] Fill in more information about you and your pet in the body of your post.

Foster Parents please start your post with the word FOSTER PARENT followed by the species (dog, cat, etc.,) and your city and state. [Example: FOSTER PARENT - Salt Water Fish - City, State] Fill in more information about you and your interests in the body of your post.

Threads

A Thread is created when a member replies to a Post. A thread might look like this: Initial Post : [Subject of post might read. "OWNER - Dog - City, State" and the body for that post might read, " Reservist, assigned to active duty for six months, needs care for a 5 year old, neutered, sheltie, very active - needs to be walked three times a day."] In the case of a dog also post the CGC http://www.akc.org/love/cgc/index.cfm and dog profile http://www.hsus.org/ace/11783 . Cat owners should post the cat profile http://www.hsus.org/ace/12896 .

First Reply: [Subject of reply "RE: OWNER -Dog - City, State" and the body of the post might read, "Does your dog need to be brushed often?"

All FOSTER_PET subscribers would receive both the Initial Post and each Reply. They would also be able to examine the Posts and Replies in the Group's Archives.

The Group's Archives would allow members to search for posts by a variety of criteria.

Chat Room

There is a Chat Room associated with this Group that can be accessed at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/foster_pet/ .

Database for Classified Ads.

The Database is the `Classified Ads Section'. There is a Database associated with this Group that can be accessed at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/foster_pet/ . It can hold up to 1000 entries. Owners are requested to provide basic information on their pet in the `Classified Ads/Database' and more complete information in a Post.
