It was Charlotte's birthday today (as well as GoE's. He'd have been 57). Monica had a brunch. We left early to do a little caching. That was, shall we say, mixed. (More on that tomorrow.)
So we went over to the family party. It was great to see everyone again, and the food was fabulous. Genevieve and Alex played together with only some fighting. It's so nice they live this close and like each other this much.
Charlotte liked her presents, though she found it all a little confusing. We gave her this pushcar (I swear Monica said the "Barbie one of course" but apparently it was NOT the Barbie one of course") and we both wanted the fire engine. Apparently, though, Charlotte doesn't care. She got some very pretty clothes, another walking thing (she just started to crawl, but I wouldn't worry, though Monica is getting hassled at day care), some really nice toys that Genevieve thinks are wonderful. Roni gave her a personalized book that is really nice and I'm thinking of doing the same for Eric. (Since yes, you can do middle names, since "Eric Yarnot" is hardly enough for a book!! Adding "Ryan" will only help a little!)
I found it interesting to be sitting on the sidelines. Roni asked Monica about toilet training and about clipping tiny toenails. I listened to the political views and kept my mouth shut. Monica renders "Republican" like it's a bad word. (I just hope they're more Kennedy Democrats than Carville ones!) They're doing fine without me. This kind of goes with the way I'm trying to approach turfing out the house... I'm pretending I've died and I'm doing the estate. I keep finding "yeah, but" things, though.
I put a hat on Shadow the dog and that was the funniest thing Genevieve has ever seen. The party wound down about 3 and we all left, with Monica hoping she could sneak in a bit of quiet time just for herself.
More caching, which worked better, and so home.
I've walked twice as far as last year. Caching seems to be good for something!
Ah, gotta love the politics inside the Politics!!
Finally, Jeff Jarvis points out: "This is war. It's not an encounter session. It's war."
