We were in the car ready to go cache in Woodland and Davis, when a car drove up with one of Rich's former Scouts, friend of Vince's. He's currently working for a Democrat congresscritter candidate (but not our district, the district a block away!) and has applied to be the director of the local CAIR (Council of American-Islamic Relations) group. He'd be good, if his explanations of his faith and politics to us is any indication.

He talked about the Bush administration's "aggression and repression." He ran afoul of the Patriot Act as he came back from a hajj to Turkey. The Homeland Security not only detained him (he does fit the profile, a young male Moslem, our own homegrown John Walker Lindh though a LOT smarter) but they read his journal.

The conversation went from "Monica Missiles," which is a new phrase for me, to policies being "white rabbits" (another new phrase... you keep following it deeper and deeper) to stoning women (well, HE brought it up!) and always back to Israel. He says Malaysian Islam is different, but maybe not. When things started to get too loud, I'd ask about why he accepted Islam, and how it works in the mosques, etc. "Jihad" is fighting for the truth, so he is doing it politically, and so he's our local Jihadist.

At time for prayers, we located Mecca on the GPSr and left him singing and salaaming in the front yard. I'd be interested in knowing what the neighbors think!
