February 17: Storm

You want to know why we invaded Iraq in 2003? Go back and read the papers in 1992. And youll find this quote:

If theyre such whizzes at foreign policy, why is Saddam Hussein thumbing his nose at the rest of the world?
Albert. Gore. Junior.---Lileks.

Read all of it, especially the 1992 papers.

Heh. As Glenn says, would you buy a used Veep from this man? He also says:

I was once pretty high on Gore -- I worked in his 1988 campaign -- but he's been a complete disappointment. And now he's not just a guy who lost an election. He's a become a loser, and that transformation has been entirely his own work.

And those of us who were relieved on September 11 that Al Gore wasn't the President are reminded, yet again, just why we were relieved. He's too small a man for a job that big.

Sunday after church we popped over to Arden Fair and picked up a close cache there. Today we discovered a whole bunch of close ones, especially the one only 2 miles away. We waited till there was a slight break in the storm and dashed over to Gibbons Park. There were a lot of people walking dogs and looking around, but we picked up trash till we actually found the cache. 804! Also, our first BIT (because it's there) cache went out at the strip mall near the freeway. That's 12 out, though Rich has actually placed some others. We know who the approver is and we're waiting till he approves one and it's found before putting out the next.

Bowling was nondescript. I had a 125 average for the day, but it wasn't bad enough to drop me from 135 overall.

Rich was out checking the polling place, and later he went to help at Sharing God's Bounty, but all I did besides the one quick cache was to stay in out of the rain and veg.

The media bias.

I note the new Newsweek, pp. 28-29. Look at the body language. Bush is with the group, Kerry is apart. Online shows the Kerry picture but the Bush one is different. Honestly, though, why am I still getting Newsweek? They told me in November I was nearly done with the subscription, and I was delighted. Yet every week it keeps coming. And coming. And coming.

Roni sent this joke:

BULLETIN WASHINGTON, D.C. - Hang on to any of the new State of Arkansas quarters. If you have them, they may be worth much more than 25 cents. The U.S. Treasury announced today that it is recalling all of the Arkansas quarters that are part of its program featuring quarters from each state. "We are recalling all the new Arkansas quarters that were recently issued," Treasury Undersecretary Jack Shackleford said Monday. "This action is being taken after numerous reports that new quarters will not work in parking meters, toll booths, vending machines, pay phones, or other coin-operated devices".

The quarters were issued in the order in which the various states joined the U.S. and have been a tremendous success among coin collectors worldwide.

"The problem lies in the unique design of the Arkansas quarter, which was created by a University of Arkansas graduate," Shackleford said. "Apparently, the duct tape holding the two dimes and the nickel together keeps jamming the coin-operated devices."

What makes America exceptional?

Krauthammer, the Other Shoe (registration required. It surprised me by already knowing my age, zip code, and gender, so I don't know why it said I wasn't registered.)

A site Bernadette discovered, and another from my sister or, that is to say, my niece's boyfriend.
