February 2: Football Game? What Football Game?

Id wanted to see this movie [Master and Commander], but had forgotten all about it. Never read the novels -- Im saving those for my late fifties, when I am have long since replaced the Bleat with daily video updates, and have time to read all 943 novels in the series. All I knew was that people I knew loved these books for reasons I suspected I would share.----Lileks

Heh. Yes, I am in my (very) late 50s, and have started the books and I do love them.

On the way home on Saturday, we saw one example of road rage that was really scary. Car A was attempting to merge, and car B didn't slow at all, nor did A, till it had run along the shoulder for awhile. Then it finally yielded, pulled in behind B. Then it swished past B, got in front, and slowed down. We've had this happen to us, on the Golden Gate Bridge, and it's scary. It's scary being behind it, too. Car B pulled into the passing lane, and A drove in front and slowed down. Back to the slow lane, same thing. There was nowhere for B to go, but the driver of A apparently finally decided he'd administered a lesson (how DARE you not yield to me??) and drove off, to our vast relief.

So, yesterday I think there was some sort of ball game on tv? We had tickets to Jesus Christ, Superstar in Davis. We braved the bad weather and went early to see if we could get some pieces of the sole remaining cache in Davis, a downtown art walk. As it happened, though, we were able to find all 5 first parts and do the magic to get the 6th. Rich figured out where it was, and we had time to get to the musical, too.

They were great! Herod was the only disappointment. I also thought Mary Magdalene was a bit nasal. However, the music is wonderful, and Judas and Jesus were great, and Simon of Cyrene (a woman... and did I remember in the Bible that Annas was married to Pilate?!) did a marvelous dance, and there were a couple of "tormentors" who were very athletic. Let's put it this way, it sure beat that lame half-time show!

Back at home I discovered I'd completely messed up the priorities on the VCR. I thought the first numbers would bump the last ones... nope. Even worse, I thought that if it was already going, it would ignore a program that started later, so I left my automagic Chris Matthews and Meet the Press in slot #8, while I planned to tape the whole Stupor Bowl (for the commercials) in slot #1. We missed almost the entire first half, but got to see the Boob.

Stupor Bowl ads.

Absobloominlutely. I thought about this, too.

Today it was positively POURING down, but the person who'd been holding on to a coordinate travel bug finally placed it. He said he didn't know it was a coordinate bug, maybe there should be a note on it. There's a huge note on the bug, and another in the envelope, both saying what they are, not to hang onto it too long, and not to take it out of the Sacramento area. I think the person is a great politician, never going to admit he's wrong and saying it's everyone else's fault. So, anyway, we took off in the rain to fetch this bug, quick before the other people who wanted it would. I wrote down its number and the coordinates I needed, and then we took it to the Gharlane cache. I logged it in, then we went bowling. I did OK, 120, 141, and 131. Rich had a 221, 179, and then dropped the ball, so to speak, with a 133. Then we dropped off CCCooper's Travel Bug at the neighborhood cache which we raided last week for a different travel bug.
