I'm one pound down, close to two. Otherwise, it's a bad week. I haven't started knitting, and I must get to the Round Robin. (I got it at Thanksgiving and decided to wait till after Christmas since we were all together at T-giving, but now it's definitely time to deal with it.)
Obstructive sleep apnea is most common among overweight men.* It occurs when the muscles in the throat allow the airway to sag, briefly closing off the flow of air and jerking the sleeper out of restful sleep. This usually happens when the sleeper is on his back. The process continues all night long; those with this condition don't get enough deep sleep and feel exhausted during the day. Obstructive sleep apnea can eventually cause serious health problems, including heart disease. People who are sleep-deprived may become depressed or have other personality changes. One remedy for the condition is a special breathing device, prescribed by a doctor, that keeps the airway open during sleep.
---THE SAVON HEALTH SELF-CARE ADVISOR, which Rich won at the Health and Fitness Fair.
The GUY doesn't sleep well? What about his WIFE? Rich is a great sleeper, and doesn't let a little thing like not-breathing bother a good night's rest. Meanwhile, though, I am not getting all that much sleep. When he is snoring along, I don't mind, but then he stops and I start counting... at between 10 and 15 seconds, he comes back with a snork! Last night I promised God that if Rich lived through the night I'd be nice to him today. So no narking about his not hearing, not listening, and/or contradictions today. THAT's been hard!
*I too am overweight though he's about twice as many pounds over ideal than I am. This after he looked like a bag of bones when he was sick in 1999. The nightly handsful of candy don't help. I guess he's now put on the non-smoking pounds that he didn't gain when he was sick. And their friends. The term "digging his grave with his teeth" does cross my mind now and again.
Then, today, I was on my way out to see Casey and saw Sailor standing, silhouetted, and he just looked WRONG. I talked to him and he seemed, I dunno, old, tired, confused... I almost called Rich in but then Sailor wagged his tail and I thought he wasn't sick enough to take to the vet, though obviously something was wrong. Rich noticed it too, but later tonight he's been more normal [definitely OK the next day.] We guess Rich just walked him farther than he was ready for, and he was stiff today.
