*Cancer-  Studies have indicated that someone who smokes five joints per week may be taking in as many cancer-causing chemicals as someone who smokes a pack of cigarrettes per day!

*Lungs & Airways-  People who smoke joints tend to have very similar breathing problems as those people who smoke joints (coughing & wheezing).  Joint smokers are also at a much greater risk of getting lung infections like pneumonia.

*Immune system- Tests on animals have found that THC (marijuana) can damage users' cells and tissues which help protect humans from disease.  When they are weakened, users are more likely to get sick!

* Long term studies of high school students show that very few of those teens use other illegal drugs without trying marijuana before hand.

*The risk of trying or using cocaine is 104 times greater for past or previous users of marijuana than for people who have never tried a joint.

*Teens who do marijuana usually have contacts with dealers etc. who would encourage the use of another drug. (heroin, LSD, cocaine,exctasy, etc.)

*Not all people who use marijuana go on to use other drugs, further research is needed to find out who will be at the greatest risk.

*In general, traces of marijuana can be detected with in days of the use of the drug.  For heavy, chronic users marijuana can be traced weeks after the use of the drug.
