Nick Knappenberger and the McCoy Bolt Works were the hosts for the October meeting of the Fort Wayne Chapter of ASM. McCoy manufactures U-bolts, eye bolts, J-bolts and other threaded fasteners for the medium and heavy duty truck and trailer markets and employs about 50 people in Fort Wayne.
Nick provided the 15 ASM members who attended an in-depth look at the manufacturing process including drawing and sizing, thread rolling, bending, stress relieving, and the application of surface finishes. Nick also spoke on the importance of material chemistry and mechanical properties in their relation to the manufacture of the bolts. |
