KIWANIS CLUB OF

FORT FRANCES

WEEKLY BULLETIN

                              FEB 09, 06

Pres Robert opened the meeting and following  “O Canada”, Gary Buffington gave the invocation. There were 13 members and a guest, Lt Gov Sam’s son, Dale. He is a 20 year member of the Canadian Navy and is presently stationed in Halifax. Good to see you again Dale.

Pres Robert passed around a Get Well Card to be signed before he delivered it to Past Lt Gov Harry. Harry was back in the hospital in Thunder Bay, but is expected home this weekend.

Linda and Robert have taken over the Valentine Party at the Snow Park and the phoning committee is checking on the members to get an attendance number . At present, it looks like a 1 meat buffet and an open bar.

Safeway has selected the Community Chest for its fund raising this year and as participating members, we will be assisting in their projects. The next one is on Sat  Feb 11th from 4 to 6 PM. I believe that the required members have been found and will be finished before you receive this message. The next project will be on March 10th and 11th, then on April 13th. The Safeway staff also plan a car raffle in May and June.

Last week, the Sunny Cove Camp Committee held a meeting to plan for the summer and draw up a budget. The big concern this year is the improvements to the water supply and the mandatory weekly testing.

The program for the day was an update on our T V Auction, which will be on April 29th. After many years, we are still fine tuning and making improvements to the system. Shanda has created a new introductory letter and because it will now go into a computer program, the listing of items will be faster and easier. We again talked about the use of pre-registered codes for those who are frequent bidders and should have that in place for this year.

Pres Robert, Pres Elect Cal , Sec Bob and Past Pres Alan attended a meeting with the town on Tues 7th, to discuss the Kiwanis Skate Park Past Pres Rob Tovey was there to represent the Skate Park Committee. The purpose of the meeting was to establish where all the  parties are with respect to the project. At least the town is now co-operating with the committee and we should have our positions resolved soon
