It is the Summer of the Talking Squirrel!
Only yesterday the young one known as Silent Sam was heard to speak. He was heard conversing with the son of Matthias and Cornflower. The young squirrel suddenly began relating the saga of the late rose summer wars to the baby mouse. I fear that we will not be able to stop him from talking, or his parents laughing from delight....
..."But I wants to be first to see 'em. 'Sides, it keeps me out of Dumble's way. That infant has become a reg'lar liddle terror."
"That he has." The Abbess nodded in agreement as she picked up a stitch. "Everywhere I turn he's following me, bullying away in his northern country speech for a nameday feast."
"The Hautumn of The Heagle, you mean." Faith chuckled
Vale threw up her paws to her ears. "Honestly, If I hear that name once more, I'll tan the little villian's tail!"
'Amid the deep white winter snow,
Sleeps Mossflow'r until spring,
While snug in Cavern Hole below,
All redwall's creatures sing.
old autumn gave us plenty,
Out harvest did not fail,
No plate or jug is empty,
There's good October Ale.'
Spring weather can change suddenly as the the mind of an old housewife choosing mushrooms. Dearie me, it can make the most carefully laid out plans go astray!
This very morning the weather was so soft and fair that Abbot Durral decided to hold our first spring season feast out of doors...
