| While participating in sports, it is my intent that the athletes will develop physically, emotionally, and socially. The athletes will develop to the best of their ability the physical and conditioning skills needed in volleyball. Emotionally the athletes will deal with success and failure which are life long experiences. We will work to deal with these emotions in a positive manner. Socially we will learn to cooperate with others and use teamwork as each athlete has a role on a team. We must respect each individual's role from coach, parent, athlete, officials, and others involved. How we deal with each situation will help us grow as individuals. I do wish to make it clear that this is a competitive sport. The junior high volleyball team is a feeder program. Our goal is to develop these skills at an early age which will benefit our program. We will give the girls as much experience as possible. However, the athletes who earn the positions will get more playing time and others may not get in all games. I do understand that athletes mature at different levels. The students will get much experience during practice where repetition will be high. This is not a "win at all cost" philosophy. I feel the life skills we learn through success and failure is a valuable lesson. Failure and success do not change a person, but how you deal with it shows a true winner. We will all grow as individuals and as a team if we accept each persons qualities. If you feel a competitive program is not in the best interest of your child, many local community centers offer recreational and instructional programs. I look forward to working with your child as a teacher and coach. Most importantly I hope I can help your child grow physically, emotionally, and socially. If you have any questions please call 796-1551 and I will be happy to meet with you. Sincerely, Paul J. Spinden III Volleyball Coach |
