Series Three: 2000/2001

New Features

Boyard's computer

The main addition to series three was Boyard's computer. This was a rather bizarre new feature which formed the basis (and still forms the basis) for the team profiles and the explanations of the objectives of the two sections of the show (getting keys and clues).

Another new feature was that the programme begin with Boyard looking extremely mean, whilst being guarded by Jacque and Jules. He introduced the show (rather as Melinda did in series one) with some odd comment and then we cut to the opening titles. The only change with these was some new clips of Melinda, Boyard and the Professor, even though they all did exactly the same poses as in series two (although Leslie Grantham has slightly less hair!). The Professor also had some new outfits for series three.

Team Profiles

An example of a competitor's profile from series three

The profiles in series three were shown as data on Boyard's computer, and the information shown included name, age, home, likes and dislikes. There was a clip of the contender in action in the centre of the screen, with a small animation showing a running man or woman to the right.

Costumes

A selection of
costumes from series three

For the third series running the costumes were made by USA Pro. There were just two colours making up the design, these being navy blue (again for the third year running) and lilac. As before each had the Fort Boyard logo in an obvious position, with a more hidden USA Pro one.

New Games

Series three saw the arrival of loads of fresh games at the Fort! These include ones that had been specially installed for 2000, but also a large number which had been shown on International shows. These included 'The Library' and 'Arm-Wrestling'. The 'Tiger Buggy' clue game also reappeared after an absence during series two: a really welcome return. Arianne's clue game also came back (hooray!) and is also featured in the brand new fourth series.

Comings and Goings

Series three featured Melinda, Boyard, the Professor, Jacques, Jules, La Boule, the Strongman (in a scary mask) and Monique (who appeared to have lost a LOT of weight). The Mud-Wrestler however was missing all series, however her reappearance in series four suggests we weren't the only ones who missed her...

And as already stated Arianne returned!! All male viewers were delighted by the reappearance of Arianne's clue game, however make-up excelled themselves, covering up areas which Channel 5 had a lot of complaints about in series one. Never mind though! Apparently during the 1999 season Arianne's maze was used in the French show for an extra feature which ours in the UK didn't show. That was soon scrapped however, and now she seems to be back for good.
