The History of Zeta![]()
Two Latinas at Oswego State University wanted to join an organization unlike any other that would serve as a home away from home on a college campus comprised of women of various backgrounds. It was important to these women that this home could be a place in which they could come together to celebrate culture, accomplishments, joys, sorrows and most importantly sisterhood. But to their dismay there was no such organization available to them on their campus.
After intense research and countless hours of soul searching, Michele Adorno and Cecila Parisi discovered that it was their destiny to belong to an organization that possessed and embodied the precious elements of true sisterhood, respect, strength, academic excellence, and cultural awareness.
These principles and traits they found in
Omega Phi Beta Sorority, Inc.
In the fall of 1993 amongst the harshest of conditions; freezing temperatures, lake effect snow and hazy
fog, Michele and Cecila had the strength and determination to embark on a
journey that would change Oswego State University and its community at large, and most importantly their own lives. Through the dedication of a few sisters from the Delta Chapter, located at the State University of New York at Binghampton, these two were able to fulfill their quest.
The Eta chapter , originally from the State University of New York at Brockport, which now encompasses other universities, began here at the Zeta Chapter.
The Xtra-ordinary Xi colony, from Syracuse University, began with the devotion and perserverence of members of the Zeta Chapter and the outstanding women brought the organization onto the Syracuse campus.
There have been several lines, several sisters and new chapters that were spawned from the birth of this chapter. As there will be hundreds there after.
