We are a group of parent/grandparent volunteers committed to improving the quality of education at Forrest Elementary School by effectively involving parents/families in student learning, volunteering, decision making and advocacy. We work in a committed partnership with our teachers to bring into closer relation the home and the school and to promote between teachers and our community such united efforts that will help us secure for every Forrest School child the best education possible. |

H&S successfully lobbied the School Reform Commission and Paul Vallas for new building construction. A Primary Education Center (PEC) will be constructed on the school yard grounds to house K-2 grades. The PEC will open in February 2008 and our current building will then add 6th grade and work towards converting to a K-8 school by 2010-11. |

Successfully teamed with the AMY @ James Martin Middle School in regards to saving the "yellow buses" as a form of transportation at AMY School and keeping our "school choice" options alive up here in the Northeast. |

Through Senator Stack's office, H&S lobbied to the School District that it is impossible for children to learn in the excessive heat of a school building that is not air conditioned, H&S was able to secure 6 refurbished air conditioning units to be placed into random classrooms. The SDP also made specific modifications to the electric in those classrooms so that air conditioning could be possible. |

Secured a $2500 MARC grant to fund development of a robotics program for 5th grade and MG program and an ecology and life sciences curriculum for 4th and 5th grades. |

H&S simply asked for more money from the District for our three (3) Odyssey of the Mind teams for their competition in Altoona. Forrest was getting the same funds any other school from our district was getting for the competition, despite the fact that we had three (3) teams competing. Accelerated Learning agreed with the H&S and awarded us an amount even greater than we asked for. |

H&S will support the Parents United for Education group and its' cause; as well as the Philadelphia Home and School Council. |

Forrest H&S was one of three winners for the Philadelphia Home and School Council's Merit Award as a top Home and School Association for the school year 2006-07. |
